The season’s barely finished and already the exciting transfer business is underway.
Today the club have announced that former youngster Craig Eastmond will leave Arsenal and play for Colchester United next season.
The midfielder looked as if he might be close to making a first team breakthrough at one point but ended up being farmed out on loan, to varying levels of success, to Milwall, Wycombe Wanderers and Colchester.
There’s a coincidence. He made 13 appearances for The U’s in League One before suffering an injury but will join them permanently at the end of June.
Eastmond was part of the team which won the FA Youth Cup under the tutelage of Steve Bould in 2009. Of that group only Jack Wilshere and Francis Coquelin have any first team involvement, with the latter tipped for a move away this summer.
Eastmond told the official Colchester website, “I enjoyed my time here on loan and now I just want to carry on where I left off. This is a place that feels good to me and one that has made me feel part of a family.
Nandos Colchester branch are said to be ‘extremely excited’ about his arrival, and good luck to him in his career.

Never quite cut it for us. Not a bad player but didn’t quite have that something special. Wish him the best of luck.
Never knew what to do with him on Football Manager so at least I don’t have to worry about that next season…

He was very good for Arsenal in the youth setup, but looking at the big picture it does make sense to go for this move, as he wouldn’t be able to cut it with our current midfield options. At least not anytime soon.
A very quick player who has an eye for the ball, gotta wish him the best as one of ours. Hope he can work his way to the Premier League.

Good to know he’s gone somewhere the fans want him and was a success on loan, unlike Bendtner/Chamakh etc for their loans. Can’t see them being welcome back where they’ve been.
Actually, Bendtner was a success at Sunderland two years ago. This year it’s true, he was more of a bench player at Juventus, but that was also due to some unfortunate injuries (as Antonio Conte said after the last game of the season, he’s had about “100 injuries” during his time there). Anyway, it’s not the most shameful thing to be a regular substitute (when fit) for a team that ended up winning the league.
The moment I saw the headline, I knew ‘Nandos’ will come up somewhere.
Unfortunately there was always just too much competition for his position! I have seen him play though and think he will become a decent championship/lower prem player in the future! Good luck lad!
No disrespect to Colchester but I would have assumed a bigger club would have been glad to have Craig in their ranks. I think he could be an asset for any of the relegation threatened teams this season or indeed for those coming up to the Premier League. He looked more of a well rounded player than Frimpong, and I think they are of a similar age, but Frimpong is attracting attention from mid-table premier league clubs.
