Joel Campbell: I am a player who knows how to score goals

Amidst all the hullaballoo surrounding the exit of Cesc Fabregas, and to a lesser extent Emmanuel Eboue, Arsenal completed the signing of Costa Rican striker Joel Campbell.

Arriving from homeland side Saprissa after impressing Arsene Wenger’s scouting team while playing for his national team in the Copa America, the 19-year, who also featured in the ongoing under-20 World Cup this summer, is the club’s fourth signing of the summer.

Speaking for the first time about his move to England, Campbell spoke openly to the Arsenal website of his pride at making such a high profile switch:

“It’s a dream come true to play for such a big club here in England and I want to do good for myself and for Costa Rica.

“It’s a very well known club, I am making history as no other Costa Rican player has ever played in a team of the quality of Arsenal.”

While it is as yet unclear whether Campbell will be sent out on loan to aid his adaptation to life in Europe, the player himself believes he has the qualities to succeed at the highest level.

“I play forward, both sides or in the middle. I’m good in one-against-ones and I am a player who knows how to score goals.

“For sure I am ready, in football you must always be prepared to give the best for whatever team. I am very happy to be here and I want to focus on doing well for Arsenal.”

Reflecting on the chance to play alongside such well known names as Carl Jenkinson, Emmanuel Frimpong and Sebastien Squillaci, the teenager (perhaps unaware that most of our best players have sidled off to pastures new) also spoke warmly of his chance to improve in London.

“I am going to learn a lot from them. They are experienced players and very skilled, therefore I am sure I am going to have a good time.

“I’ve always liked Arsenal’s playing style, I’ve been watching them since I was a kid and they always play nice football.

“I took the decision [to move to Arsenal] because I know that here I have the possibility to play and to become a better player.

“I will give all of myself to try and learn quickly to understand how my teammates player and be ready soon.”

Remembering fondly the success achieved by both Kevin and Sol, Arseblog News likes to think that having a player called Campbell can only be a good thing…

– That is comedy gold right there. . .

DDarse

you should be ashamed to try and make fun of a new sighing, arseblog, whoever wrote this article, you should have a little trust on arsene’s decision to bring in such a talented young prospect. But I say WELCOME JOL CAMBEL AND YOU SUCCEED AT ARSENAL.

ken

For all intents and purposes Campbell must be loaned out to another club, and quite frankly, I don’t care how much potential the lad has, we don’t need signings where we know the players should be immediately loaned out. So for as much credit as Arsene deserves, he also earned some criticism for continuing to not strengthen the team. One that is now already coming up on a stretch of crucial games.

JT

Ken has a small brain.

Master Bates

Reflecting on the chance to play alongside such well known names as Carl Jenkinson, Emmanuel Frimpong and Sebastien Squillaci…

This made me chuckle ,I can’t wait to see this kid play ,After watching his youtube video and wikipedia Page ,I came to conclusion that this kid is world class .

Robin

So his wiki page impressed you… 8 games in the Costa Rican league and 6 games for Costa Rica national team is impressive… hell yes it is 🙂

Ringo Star

it’s goal to game ratio

Master Bates

9 games / 8 goals in the u-17
13 games / 10 goals in the u-20
6 games/2 goals as a senior .(in copa america)

His goals to games ratio in very impressive , he really knows how to score goals

Jack Searle

as dara o’briein put it “if we draw cuba in the carling cup we are laughing”

Omer

“because I know that here I have the possibility to play and to become a better player.”

Have we officially become a “stepping-stone” club?

KC

you are retarded.

JT

Agreed, he’s dense.

lewi

NEGATIVE USELESS SUPPOTERS!!!!!!!!!!!

Mo

Under 20 Top scorer? He scored twice. Not even Costa Rica’s top scorer.

Still, Campbell looks decent, if kinda raw, and one of his finishes in Columbia was sublime.

Just the work permit to sort…

OLA DAUDU

HAS HE WON WORK PERMIT?

Phil Rossiter

Until he gets his work permit sorted, he’s “almost like a new signing…”

When he gets it sorted, he’s officially a new signing!

LIke the signing, and hope for more in the days to come.

Will be watching the listening to the match on Sirius radio as we drive to our son’s 8:00 a.m. Pacific Time soccer match. He’s a Gunner, too!

highburyh

Looks like kanye west without the beard

tsiptsip

Honestly? Are you for serious?

He looks like Joel Nathaniel Campbell Samuels!

The hurler

everytime I see Wenger on tv I immediately hear the theme music to “24”.., the clock is counting down til September 1st. only then will I judge the man & his transfer activity, but not before then. I have too much respect for everything he has done. great managers don’t become bad over night. so let’s be patient.

Bob the Gunner

oh great. another one.
I smell narcissism.

GK

yes, he did sound like Bendtner

The hurler

And I smell a cunt,.

Walks

Ha classic hurler!

Good-Bloke

Confident and selfish…

… I like him already.

Is he available today?

TomC

Well if he ever gets a game, let’s just hope he turns up.

RedandDread

haha-easy now

James

Brilliant news! Welcome to Arsenal! All we need now is to sign another young winger and we should be good 🙂

Goonerjam

Is it me or does he look like he could crack a brick with that chin of his??

tsiptsip

In a couple years, Joel (the Crushing Chin) Campbell and Gervinho (the Fantastic Forehead) will be crackin’ a whole lotta (insert crack-able tangible/intangible things here)…one can only hope for such a devastating partnership to form.

AirzyFC

Get in!! He’s gonna rip them prem a new ARSEblog! Boof! GOONERS!

Mr.P

Let us hope He can score Goals right away and lot’s of them ?

[…] AND YES! A TRANSFER IN! Joel Campbell. His transfer has finally been confirmed, and is awaiting for his work permit to be granted. If it doesn’t work out, he would most probably be sent out on loan to la liga. Don’t foresee it being rejected after Ryo had his special talent permit approved. The youngster himself says: […]

Jackaz

Maybe he just likes goals….

The hurler

Anyone got any score predictions for today? I predict a 2-2 draw..

skinnygooner

Ejiro Esiri

I do sincerely hope that in some 8 years time when i must have become a more dedicated drinker like arseblogger, I won’t read a news talking of the good times campbell had with us and arseblog the first to report it…i gpray, i hope!
