Arsenal confirm Traore exit as Wenger closes on duo

Arsenal have confirmed the sale of French left-back Armand Traore to Premier League new boys Queens Park Rangers.

The 21-year-old, who signed from Monaco in 2006, was shipped out on lengthy loan spells to both Portsmouth and Juventus during his time with the Gunners after struggling to compete with Gael Clichy and Kieran Gibbs for a starting berth at the Emirates. His last act in an Arsenal shirt was to chew gum, while Nani and Park repeatedly jogged past him in Saturday’s nightmare defeat at Old Trafford.

He is understood to have signed a three year contract at Loftus Road with Arsene Wenger recouping a fee in the region of £1.5 million.

Traore’s place in the Arsenal first team squad looks set to be filled by 28-year-old Brazilian international Andre Santos. The Fenerbahce full-back will seal a move to the Emirates in the next 24 hours in a deal worth £6.5 million.

According to reports both in Germany and France, German international Per Mertesacker will also sign a long-term contract in North London as Arsene Wenger further strengthens his defensive options.

The lanky 26-year-old centre-back, who is valued at 10m euros, has long been courted by Arsenal and will challenge Johan Djourou and Laurent Koscielny for a place alongside Thomas Vermaelen.

DEEEEEENCH

bird

andre santos..? per…?

Are we sure Arsene’s still the coach?

perrygrovesworld

I can’t believe he’s signing a centre half and not a 17 year old winger the cunt. . . .

Andrew

Grow up, you wanker.

rectum spectrum

LOL. quality. The reaction below cements. Well placed Perry…

rectum spectrum

Above. The fucking reaction above. Sorry guys. God damn it.

George

I thought this was meant to be ironic rather than sincere? haha

Rectum Spectrum

its a triple mind fuck george. me and perry can make blood come out of your eyes…

northerngoon

Actually I thought that was fucking hilarious.

Midfield Corporal

I love it that people still miss the joke.

perrygrovesworld

Nice one corporal! Its a long standing joke people, chill out!!!

argonaut

Good riddance, Traore, you useless sack.

Anton

If it looks like a cunt, walks like a cunt, talks and chews like a cunt…

bird

…this shouldn`t deceive you, he is a cunt 🙂

Mr Teddy Ears

And smells like a Nasri

tg

It must be Nasri!

Mooro

Good.

1steved1

I was telling this guy last night how shit Traore was and how he was the worst defender I’d seen at Arsenal, probably ever. He looked horrified, seriously horrified, then he told me he was a QPR fan. I never seen anyone look so resigned about a transfer in my life, poor chap.

deano

For fuck sake! One central defender is not enough!!!

Djourou and Squillaci are not, I’m afraid, Arsenal standard in any shape or form, therefore when Vermaelen has his inevitable injury layoffs, we rely on just Koceilny as back up. We still need one of Cahill, Jagielka or Alex, in my opinion, but I fear Wenger will feel he’s ‘addressed’ our defensive issues now and move to other positions.

neutral

To be fair, if Arsenal do not sign some creative midfielders and more quality strikers it will not matter how many CBs we sign.

AvenellRoad

True that! Losing Fabregas (and Nasri, you have to admit) means we rely on an injured 19 year old for our creative spark. We all know they’re not coming, but Eden Hazard or Wesley Sneijder would be fantastic additions.

[…] Traore’s departure has been confirmed for £1.5 million, to QPR. Apparently it is the same amount we paid for him, so good deal in my opinion! Good riddance, you awful player. […]

Arsene's nose

We are going to sign someone over 5 ft!! Hopefully this German is as mental as Lehman..

kunzeboom

actually he isn’t…i can remember him being the cb with the least yellow cards shown during one season (maybe he even won some fair play prize back then). very calm, good positioning and well..a big lad…
i’m looking foward to this..

Boris

Great Signins , Per is top Top Class :)))))
Now just waiting for HAZARD…

Mr Teddy Ears

bastian schweinsteiger next and Alex thats me happy

Truegooner

If we sign Bastian Schweinsteiger in the next few days, I will fly to London, arrive at the Emirates Stadium at 9am on Friday and kiss the first thing that walks out the front door. Man, woman, child, or dog.

samir nasri

me 😀

Jake

If true, it looks like we have mertesacker, santos and park coming in all quite cheaply. Good signings though, but now lets hope wenger uses a large chunk of money and pay what is needed for a quality fabregas replacement. Jadson would be good as he could settle inn with fellow brazilian santos. I do believe the board is restricting big money moves, and if this is true, wenger should be hailed as the greatest manager ever, even better than fergie, as he has competed at the top level for 15 years without making a signing more expensive than 15… Read more »

Rumours are that Joke Hole and Benayoun are thinking about Lille…maybe they are resigned to letting the Duke go? Maybe we are in negotiations? maybe?

PejDiddy

Anyone else find it strange that for the past 3 years it’s been impossible to pry Per away from the bundesliga but now we can wrap it up in 3 days? Even when arsene is actually doing something good it still pisses me off

Sean

i read he’s in the last year of his contract. They probably want to get something for him rather than have him leave for free next year. The fact Arsene isnt waiting till he’s free says alot about how desperate he must be

rectum spectrum

If we make those signings, plus a quality midfielder, I’d say we have a excellent chance of beating Liverpool to fourth. They’re great great signings a couple of seasons overdue.

Armand Traore

Can everyone stop being so mean? I’ve stayed with Arsenal for years, but now Eboue has left the club has fallen into a state of disrepair. It’s not my fault.

Thomas Drinkwater

lol brilliant

perrygrovesworld

Ha ha! Quality sir!

Truegooner

No gum chewing, slacker!

JJ

I hope the men’s team will get the message

http://www.arsenal.com/news/ladies-news/white-strength-in-depth-key-to-title-win

Or is it a deliberate pot shot at the board?

zak

white strength? seems a bit racist.

SEYI BOLAJI

GOOD 2 SEE TRAONONSENSE GO…WE NEED A COUPLE MORE SIGNING THEN WE ARE SET

Conor

Traononsense isnt even a play on words lol… something like Traoretard or tra-oh-my-god-chase-back-you-lazy-cunt is :p

Popeye

How sad tho eh after being so close at times last year we now all talk about finishing 4 th

Truegooner

Yeah but what are you gonna do? Maybe the three teams above us will go bankrupt?

rains

Hurray! that’s another waste of space gone! The 8-2 losing grinning buffoon. I still think we need two new midfielders though. If we buy one then he gets injured, we’re back to where we were the other day again. We need strength in depth to compete. Look at United, they have good players and good cover all over the pitch, as do Chelsea (although a lot of them are long in the tooth now), and City, and Liverpool have a mass of decent midfielders. A good defence will help, but we’ve lost some spark in the middle and look too… Read more »

mamad0u

Mertesacker could be another Squillaci or a TV, nobody knows, and he will need time to adapt so expect a few djourou-esque blunders.

I feel sorry we can’t get a proper defender with PL experience. So now, from the 19 last signings, we took only one with PL experience : Sylvester from MU.

Mr Teddy Ears

And Galas

chris

and sol campbell and look how those 3 all turned out

AvenellRoad

Right. Nobody knows. but then again – Vermaelen did not have PL experience, nor did Vidic or Kompany when they arrived. And they all turned out pretty allright.

heihaci

Good this is a step in the right direction!

The pope

He’s on his way to have a medical. I hear we’ve also had a bid for mario gotze rejected, it’d pretty great if we bought him!

chris

I heard we bid 35mil for Gotze but considering we will be facing Dortmund in a couple of weeks i think we have no chance of getting him. Would be nice though if we did manage to get him.

Jake

read that on “fanatix”? im sorry to break it to you, but ……… they lie.

Jamie

Traore, hope you choke on your gum, you gormless wanker.

Arsenal Bystander

http://www.skysports.com/story/0,,11670_7138743,00.html THIS IS BRILLIANT!

Truegooner

Great News! What rhymes with mertesacker?

Stephen

nutsacker?

perrygrovesworld

Per Meretsacker, he’s gonna back, sack and crack ya!

Midfield Corporal

Goodbye Armand, at least your place in ‘the Shittest Arsenal Back Four Ever’ is secure alongside Stepanovs, Gus Ceasar and….. Who’s our worst right back? Anyone?

perrygrovesworld

I’ll give you eboue at right back for now i’m sure there’s been worse but can’t think who at the moment

Rectum Spectrum

theo walcott! did 10 minutes of RB on sunday and conceeded a penalty.

perrygrovesworld

Good point! I’ll give you that one Spectrum

MadJens

German newspapers report that Mertesacker is in London for talks and a medical while Dortmund rejected a 40m€ bid for Götze we put in 2 weeks ago.

Joachim Löw said today that Mertesacker called him late yesterday evening to tell that he has an offer on the table and Löw allowed him to take Tuesday off to travel.

I Bleed Red

I hope we manage to sign a couple of creative midfielders. Would be happy with malouda but not sure who the creative one in the centre could be. Affelay would be a good signing by the way even if on loan. Better than what we have now at least

Truegooner

Afellay on loan would be good. They owe us.

Stephen

Now we know which wing all the balls will be played down against QPR when we face them. “tips it past Traore who seemed to be napping there and can’t catch him now”

perrygrovesworld

Oh i dunno, i’m sure Arshavin or Theo could do their best to make him look good

Bromley Gooner

I heat that armand was so devastated that we sold his close friend Na$ri that he could no longer perform to the same extraordinary levels that he set whilst warming the bench at juventus, you’ll remember the abject looks of confusion and carelessness that crossed his face whilst consistently being docked on

Gervinio's Forehead

Still no word from the board about authorizing an increase in our top wage limit… They have until the end of transfer window… do the right thing or get ready for a fans backlash…. the tight sphinctered CUNTS.

arseblog

Well, they’re not going to announce it on the official website, are they?

Stephen

After that weekend I don’t think the board members exactly required a medical procedure to have their sphincters loosened. Somewhere in Old Trafford a vip box needed a right good clean up afterwards.

Ricci

I’m happy we’re signing a “tall and experienced” centre half, but still feel a bit gutted that we seem to have given up on Cahill. He was clearly our first choice (or at least higher up the list than Per) and it looks like we just wouldn’t cough up the required cash. Bolton were clearly prepared to listen to offers – albeit massively inflated ones

Stephen

I’m sure they’d listen to anyone with a wheelbarrow of cash.

gunner_expat

maybe wenger rates per better or the same as cahill but was preferring cahill because it’s always a good idea to stock up on the englishmen.

he’s not willing to spend too much more on cahill than he would for per. so welcome Per!

Rodders1971

What have QPR ever done to us?Poor fuckers watching that useless twat Traore every week…wonder if they’d be interested in Squillaci Arshavin & Chamack?

john

a creative lybian tea lady is on her way for medical at emirates a head of closure of TW in less than 15hrs-routers

Good-Bloke

Only been trying to offload Traore for 3 fucking seasons, turns out smiling after an 8-2 hiding was the final Straw.

Get Santos, can’t be any worse.
