Lukas ‘king of thumbs up’ Podolski says he’s pleased with how the rehab on his injured hamstring is going, but made clear he’ll not rush his return to first team action.
Speaking from his hometown Cologne where the German national team are set to play their penultimate World Cup qualifier against Ireland, the 28-year-old striker told local press that despite being eager to return he’s playing things by the book.
“I work hard every day in rehab and am satisfied with the healing process.
“It also does not help to rush things. I have a responsibility to the national team and to Arsenal. I won’t compromise my goals.
“I will not make the mistake of trying to return too early to the pitch.
Touching on the fact his country are playing at the home of his beloved former club Cologne, Podolski continued:
“An international match in Cologne, in my home, in my living room and I cannot be there. As you can probably imagine that’s particularly tough for me to swallow. As hard as it for me, I’ll just have to put up with itchy feet tonight.”
No doubt those itchy feet will end up on Instagram this evening with a whole host of weird and wacky hashtags. The nutter.
I love the nutter.
Ozil may be our best player. Cazorla may be more of a genius. Giroud may be more beautiful. Ramsay may be in better form. Per may bigger. Wilshere may be more passionate.
But I fucking love PODOLSKI
A-HA!
I would love a night out with him, Eboue and Arshavin.
Might be worth it just for the morning after: where you woke up (and who you woke up with), in what condition, and what you were about to be charged with.
Bonus points if the only memories of the evening come from You Tube.
Would be better than the ‘hangover’ movies. I could see Eboue waking up with a tiger, or with a tiger suit on.
Or in a tiger suit next to a tger … smoking a cigarette.
And Frimpong
Looking at the ridiculously heavy December programme, let’s hope he’s up and eager to go by then.
Just get well soon. We’ll need your goals. The title isn’t ours yet
He’s not even guaranteed a first team place anymore, not because he’s shite, but because we finally have some quality in depth. How exciting!
Cazorla, Ozil and Walcott as an attacking 3 with Podolski, Rosicky and Chamberlain fighting for their places. Fuck yeah!
The only missing “depth” being Giroud in front of them but let’s not think about that.
Podolski is legitimate cover for CF in my eyes. maybe not in others as he played there once for us and didnt have the best of games.
He played there atleast 5-6 times, mainly at the start of the season and the end when Oli was suspended: QPR (away) Wigan (home), Sunderland (home) Stoke (away) Newcastle (away) United (home).
agree… with Özil and Aaron behind and Santi and Theo beside him he can be lethal!
Are you forgetting TGSTEL??
The man scored two goals last night for Denmark. Hope he brings that back with him to Arsenal. I want to see him succeed with us. I also want to see him grovel and beg forgiveness for the shit he talked about us, but he’s our player so I wish him to finally come good and make amends.
I tremble to say it, but the Last Samurai got his first international start in 6 months last night, and got a brace against Italy.
Italy had already won the group, so not having seen the game its no true measure of him right now, but……
Yeah, cos we all know how Italy don’t care about letting goals in when they’re playing games that don’t matter. Bet they were all wearing Hawaiian shirts and carrying cocktails as they sauntered around the pitch watching the flop from Juventus with an indulgent smile on their lips. “Aww, look at the funny lad. Bless him, so cute with that samurai look.”
That sweet lethal left foot…cannot wait for it, CANNOT!
Absolutely love Poldi. :3
blogs please stop moderating me i have nothing wrong to say!
It’s a random pick. I get it quite often too. It just means your clever, witty and insightful comments get a little bit delayed, that’s all. If you actually had anything that needed moderating you wouldn’t be here to bring this up, so no need to feel unhappy.
Arsenal are Top of the League!!!!!!!
This comment is awaiting moderation.
So is this one.
Arsenal Followers! I ask you? No sense of humour? Don’t like Arsenal being top of the League?
Do I really need to tell people that I wasn’t criticising anybody? Honestly, Gove has a lot to answer for.
Kudos to Bonjour and masterofthegoonaverse.
Or maybe the place is infested with Spuds again. Call Rentokill.
Did anyone see Ryo’s answer to one of the #askryo questions earlier?
Ryo said: “We all really get along, but Lukas Podolski often tries to communicate with me using odd Japanese. It is pretty amusing!”
I’d love to go out on the lash with Podolski. Every time another player talks about him he sounds like a riot!! Great player to have in dressing room no doubt about it.
King Poldi is an absolute lunatic and I couldn’t love him more for it.
20+ goals this season, nailed on
We need a “Book of Poldi”. Full of odd Japanese quotes, kerbside barbecue recipes, how to do the perfect thumbs-up, favourite London tourist spots and a guide to the perfect left foot shot. This man is more than just a footballer.
Also does anyone remember a photo taken of the Arsenal bench some cold dark winter game? Everyone on the Arsenal bench is looking pretty glum, but there’s Poldi at the back grinning like the Cheshire cat!!
This? pic.twitter.com/uFFQix5BNJ
Prince Poldi is an epic human.
LOL yes that’s the one.
Classic Poldi :o)
I was thinking he must be the happiest bench player! And not long after he came on the pitch he scored to seal the victory for us.
Positive attitude brings you positive result.
Out of thirty-one people in the squad photo,
Podolski is the only one grinning.

Totally love Prince Poldi. A-HA!
Strongest Left Foot To Ever Live!
Every picture of Podolski I see, could easily be on 9gag. He’s just so photogenic.
Poldi is my fav. You need big characters in the dressing room and this guy is definitely one of them!
Good to have great footballers like him and Santi who are always cheerful and smiling who’re not egomaniacs and won’t punch the younger ones(yes you RVP)
I know i just made every stank by mentioning RVP. AHA i just made it worse.
I realy hope n pray he return to action including the other players(car wal cham) to increase the depth of the team.we need him badly to score the goals
Disliked not for text speak or abbreviations but for the fact that IT’S FUCKING SPELLED “CAZORLA” NOT “CARZOLA”.
I wish my own family loved me as much as Gooners love Podolski.
If I called my “ball&chain” and said “I won’t rush my return (home from work)” it would be met by something like
“Why dont u stay there forever, u lousy git”
Teach me, Poldi!
A-HA!
#aha
being held as scapegoat i see, mate.
Get in there, Lukas!
I’m inviting him to my wedding
Can I come? I have a very sad life.
As long as its not a Saturday.
Best finisher in the team. Look foward to having him back.
Looking through Poldi videos on Youtube and found this.
http://youtu.be/I-p3Fd4DMAA
What did I just watch?
Surreal as fuck.
But I just could not stop watching.
Mesut <3 Podolski?
brain-tricks to avoid looking at stuff you don’t like online:
1. Convince yourself of the uncertainty associated with the genuinity of the pictures/videos, or whatever it is you see.
2. Find a woman. 🙂
Ever so slightly strange. After about 30 seconds I decided to run away.
The really scary thing was just after Özil arrived, I wanted to see how well they played together.
I then found that if you Google: Podilski + Özil, the first thing it autofills is Bromance, and I had to see what it meant.
After all these years, you’d think I’d remember: 1). the internet is a scary place, and 2). some things just cannot be unseen.
Poldi could be our most vital attacking weapon this season. His good scoring record and link up play with Ozil could have a big factor in the title race.
Id love to hear 123 aha chanted
Giroud scored a couple of crackers tonight against the Ozzies…check it out on youtube
He looks every bit quality and coming into his prime. Very happy for him considering he is a late bloomer.
The world cup is at his door.
Really hope we’re talking weeks not months with Poldi’s injury. Giroud’s been great but he can’t be expected to lead the line week in week out. Hopefully Wally is not far away either. He might choose the wrong option sometimes but the sheer threat of his pace scares the opposition no end. Walcott Poldi and Giroud is enough for me.
i really think this team can do special things, the balance of the team mentally and with the personalities we have in the dressing room is great
poldi is a big part of that he’s the wildcard
the leaders we have in arteta, mert, verm and flamini
the british core
the run in last season of achieving the impossible
it’s a special team and you can see it on wenger’s face when he talks about them
Although the French core still hold some of the truly outstanding fighters in the squad in Sagna, Koscielny, Flamini and to some extent Giroud.
Podolski freaks the funk. Can’t wait until he’s tickling the twine with his left booted shots again.
go go poldi take your time buddy
With the wealth of riches in attacking midfield/wide areas, likely to see Poldy re-assigned to CF.
Particularly with (fellow German) Ozil in the hole behind him, could make for an interesting alternative to the current Giroud set up.
Hope to see him back sooner if possible.
Critically, if Poldy ticks with Ozil, it may have impact on what we do with regard another CF. Potential market in this position for a top quality player will be tight in January unless (again) Madrid initiate the merry go round with say an audacious (and ludicrously expensive) bid for Suarez or say Monaco discover they have to sell Falcao (which seems unlikely) Two possible back up options for us already in the PL are Benteke at Villa and Michu at Swansea. The younger Benteke whilst full of potential is somewhat similar to Giroud in approach (albeit with a tinge… Read more »
