Mesut Ozil says he didn’t want to sing for his new teammates but custom dictates that all new arrivals have to stand on a chair and croon.
He revealed he sang something nobody would know (probably to hide the fact it was off key and he couldn’t remember the words).
“The singing bit, I didn’t really want to do that because my voice just isn’t up to it,” he said. “I’m not an X-Factor contender by any stretch of the imagination.”
“The song was a Turkish song, to be honest. Of course, people didn’t understand what I was singing.”
He’s a clever boy, and Arseblog News can now reveal an exclusive list of the songs sung by many of our recent signings:
Olivier Giroud – Christina Aguilera: Beautiful
Lukas Podolski – Nena: 9999999999 Luftballons: (he’s very enthusiastic)
Emiliano Viviano: Paul Simon: You can call me Al(munia)
Ju-Young Park – The Beatles: Nowhere man
Gervinho – Missed the chair, said it was because Wenger didn’t give him or the chair enough love
Santi Cazorla: Manu Chao: Me gustas tu
Yaya Sanogo: Something by The Who
Andre Santos: The Cars: Drive (really, really fast)
Ignacio Monreal: Sinitta: So Nacho
Carl Jenkinson: Theme to Grange Hill
Per Mertesacker: Scott Walker: No regrets
Mikel Arteta: India.Arie: I am not my hair
As it’s the Interlull and there’s not much else to do, feel free to make suggestions for all Arsenal signings and their first songs.
It might pass a few minutes.
