Reports: Ox suffers injury set-back

Various reports this morning suggest that Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain has suffered a set-back in his recovery from a cruciate ligament injury.

Initially, Arsene Wenger said the midfielder would be out for ‘at least 6 weeks’, before the player himself said, “I’m going to be working hard to hopefully be back playing in 3 months.”

However, it’s now mooted that he won’t make his comeback until well into the new year. Having picked up the injury against Aston Villa on the opening day of the season, the Ox has now been missing for well over 3 months and was said be obviously limping at a recent public appearance.

Fingers crossed he’ll be back sooner rather than later.

There was better news regarding Theo Walcott though as he’s reported to have returned to full training and could be in the squad to face his old side, Southampton, at the Emirates on Saturday.

Boll-OX!

MAllen

There are many years of great football just around the corner awaiting the young lad. I hope he is being patient with himself and I hope he does a Ramsey on his return

CountLeaf

in this respect i truly believe Arsenal must be the best place possible to suffer such a long term injury.

(while still thinking what the fuck is wrong with our medical dept and so many players suffering from such setbacks, in general.)

glenn

Aha! That must be why long-term injuries are so popular here…

Impatient gooner

Does a Ramsey on his return? So will be booed for at least one season!

Yawe

Well it’s kinda “normal” for a player to have an injury setback. But what’s with this FLU thing? Mysterious…

A N Other

Is there any official confirmation?

chaplin35

C’mon ox-master… But at least Theo will be back, first of the wide men who we’ve been missing at times.

Mooro

The Arsenal injury rite of passage unfortunately.

After a great start to his Arsenal career (insert player name) will miss (insert number) of months due to (insert injury).

Although an insert injury was, of course, actually suffered by Ashley Cole not too long ago.

Rambö

Hopefully Ox gets well and gets some sort of Ramsey-type comeback. And we need to get someone to see where all the illnesses/flu is coming from.

Gooner

This flu thing could be a blessing in disguise as it allows players like Rambo and ozil a bit if a rest, hopefully they will have recovered by the time we play Southampton.

Waterboi

‘This flu thing’ cost us the United game, and thats as bad as it gets.

Mooo

I sensed in the Villa game that this season was his. Hope he comes back stronger.

Harish P

Dammit. Dammit all to hell. The kid is a future prospect at the right place and time to be with Arsenal as we finally show ourselves to have returned as big players in the worldwide football arena. I fear this missed opportunity will lead to getting replacement players on the width at the front and hold back his development that bit more in the next couple of years. While in the very long run that may mean little, the truth is we are the kind of fans that show little patience to players (generally), but with intention shown to bring… Read more »

Has anyone seen Ozil lately?

Why am I not surprised?!

Olexis

Wishing Ox some quick recovery & thanks Theo is back.

Lucas

I really Miss Mr Chamberlain…Hope He will back soon!
Get strong Man,,U are the OX!

Cheadle

Lucas Ha ha guess you tried not to make it look like you were saying MAN.U. ARE THE OX, anyways you already called him MISS M.R. CHAMBERLAIN.. ha ha

donkey trousers

There’s a pub quiz question in there somewhere – which of our ‘young british core’ has missed the most games through injury since introduction from the first team – Rambo, Theo, Gibbs, Jack or the Ox?

Elly

That question would be much easier if Diaby was British, lol. Seriously tho pretty depressing and worrying that they’ve all been laid low so much by injuries at a similar age, perhaps it’s more noticeable for us as obvoiusly tend to take more notice of the team you support when it comes to things like that and the fact that we still have quite a few youngish ones in and around the first team. Still feels like we have if not a huge problem with it, then at least something that needs looking into. We’ve been fairly lucky so far… Read more »

Waterboi

Tough one.

Goon

Never thought I’d say this but boy am I glad to see Theo back. His pace has been terribly missed.

GK

I just want to point out that his injury is a PCL injury (posterior cruciate) as opposed to ACL (anterior cruciate). Still a very serious injury but not one that always requires surgery in an athlete like an ACL tear.

Dr Baptiste

If you’re going to do a fun fact, at least spice it up with humour….. Amateur

Mesut Aussie

Cheers GK. Good to hear it’s PCL. ACL is the devils work.

Away fan

Any updates on podolski?

Duby

Well I am not in support of the opinion that he should get a Ramsey-esque comeback, it seems we have forgotten how Ramsey was immediately after the injury. I just want a better Chamberlain!

T-H

Buying players from Southampton means having them out for at least an entire season. Talent and glass… Talent and glass!

Karl

The backroom staff at the club are second rate, quite clearly a clear out is needed, the failure to deal properly with the injuries to Vermaelen and Wilshere should have been the catalyst for change.

Lulu

Not at all surprised. Cruciate major injury, wouldn’t be surprised if he ends up needing surgery and out for the season, or is nursed back very slowly. Sorry to doom.

heihaci

how about signing a winger with pace, shooting ability and quality on the ball and to provide competition for Walcott/Gnabry etc?

heihaci

I’m thinking of Marco Reus

PG

He’s got a £30 mil buy out clause in his contract so it could happen!

Andre

We would never pay 30m for a player, were tight and we only care about profits. Oh.. wait..

Waterboi

Anyone hear about the Alexander Pato rumour, apparently Arsenal have been given clearance to sign Corinthians striker Alexandre Pato in January for £10m.

ttaiye

IMO, no Pato. We need a pacy option upfront ala Henry. Someone who can take defenders on. As much as I love Giroud and his link up play, there are times when his inability to take players one-on-one (he could be quite clumsy on the dribble) kill promising chances because he has to wait on his midfielders. A pacy striker with that ability will be the perfect foil to Giroud.
