Jack Wilshere is facing a lengthy lay-off after the club announced he needs surgery on his troublesome ankle. The England international has not featured for the Gunners since limping out of the Emirates Cup in August and will be out for several more months after he goes under the knife.
Eager to stress that nobody is to blame for Wilshere’s failure to recover naturally, a statement on Arsenal.com reads:
“Jack Wilshere will undergo surgery on his right ankle on Monday morning.
“Wilshere has recently been wearing a protective boot aimed at allowing a stress fracture of the ankle time to heal naturally and avoid surgery.
“However, scans this week have revealed that the fracture has not responded positively during this period.
“Throughout Jack’s injury, the Club has been guided by the continuous advice of several world-renowned specialists. The information attained this week has led to the conclusion that surgery is now required to gain an optimal response.
“Wilshere is now expected to be out for a period of months. Following surgery these timescales will become more specific.
“A Club spokesman said: ‘We have given Jack time to heal naturally which is important wherever possible with a young player. The latest scans show surgery is needed. Everyone at the Club wishes Jack a speedy recovery.'”
Updating supporters on Twitter about the operation and his expectations of a swift recovery, Wilshere said:
“Been in a boot for a month and the bone is not responding. I will have surgery on my right ankle on monday with the two best surgeons around.
“Hopefully I will return to action around christmas time. I am in good hands! thanks for your support everyone!”

Christmas my ass. He’s done for the six months if not the season. How would surgery help a broken bone? He must be really screwed. If Diaby were healthier last year or we had better midfielders, Wilshere would not have had to play so much as an 18 yr old.
Sounds like an Open reduction – internal fixation. they open the skin and reset the break in the bone so it heals properly in the right place
So it’s been Diaby (countless), Rosicky, Ramsey, Van Persie (numerous), Nasri (cunt), Fabregas, Clichy, Vermaelen, – that have been out with serious long term injuries in the last 5-6 years at Arsenal, not counting the niggly injuries i.e. a month here, a month there.

This is what happens when you buy crocked or mediocre players. The fit, decent ones get overplayed and then they end up crocked too. Players need more robust physical conditioning to cope with the roughness of the Premier League as well as developed skilsets.

Best news all day! Between V5, Diaby, and now Jack (always the question mark of Rosicky and RvP joining this distinguished list) we are going to have LANSings from now come January. Most active transfer period in AFC history, Most players in/out and LANSings in a 6 month period.

We’ll be fine. I feel for the lad, but we’ve got lots of cover in midfield now. We didn’t really have Ramsey last year, now we do. We also have Frimpong and Coquelin this season, while the Ox looks more than capable of contributing. We’ve bought Arteta and Benayoun, and Arshavin and Rosicky can play behind the striker as well. We’re covered. I’m actually pleased the burden has been lifted from Jack’s young shoulders.

Hindsight, my fellow gooner, is 20/20. I’m guessing that if Wenger played Denilson last season to rest Jack while he was fit you would have been up in arms.
