Walcott takes Arsenal’s England contingent to six

Theo Walcott has only played 13 competitive minutes since returning from his ACL injury but it’s been enough to persuade Roy Hodgson to call him up to the England squad.

The Three Lions face Slovenia on 15 November as they look to continue their perfect start to Euro 2016 qualifiers before facing Scotland in a friendly three days later.

The call-up comes a few days after Arsene Wenger gave Walcott’s inclusion his blessing.

“If he wants to go [with England], I am happy for him to go and train, and maybe get a few minutes.

“I am happy for that because it will help his development. Is he completely ready? I think it is a bit early, but to be in the squad would be good for him.”

Walcott’s inclusion takes Arsenal’s contingent to six with Calum Chambers, Kieran Gibbs, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Jack Wilshere and Danny Welbeck also on the roster.

UPDATE – Carl Jenkinson’s good form on loan at West Ham has seen him earn another call-up to the England under-21s.

Let’s if the British media take note of that!

SB

Sorry, it should have read ‘Let’s see…’

Roitenak

What is British media ?

dozie

I smell injury around the corner

Exiledgooner

I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again: how the fuck is Luke Shaw in the squad? And for that matter, Townsend? Seriously, Woy?

I’ve heard of players checking to see if they have Irish grandparents, but if this keeps up then the supporters might decide to have a look as well.

son a goal

Remember when they used to say Arsenal is bad for the future of the three lions? What are they saying now?

cb

That England won’t be able to hold onto a decent lead?

Trying to joke through the pain…

The Panther

Awesome, from French core to slightly German/Spanish and mainly British. Suck it Purdue, suck it. Ooh, and Saido Berahino totally deserves his chance, his story is an inspirational one.

Nacho de Montreal is tasty

The french core achieved things for the club. Remember king Henry XIV, Vieira, Pires, Petit, Wiltord.
Our British core hasn’t yet (except for FA cup last year) and only shows promise on paper.

Bouldy's Tupee

Seriously, why is that piece of shite Andros Townsend doing in the England team?!!! Its not like he plays in a big club?! There are definitely better wingers than him like Dyer or Routeledge who deserve a call up.

GunnerDareMacedonia

I think walcott is seventh player from arsenal to join England not sixth .

GunnerDareMacedonia

My bad, i read ox’s name twice sorry .

Gooner

Chambo and Chambo?

You were right to read it twice!

goodstuff

This is something to be happy about
…Seriously!

Hessojay

Finally a positive news… It had all been a sense of negativity about Arsenal since the capitulation of midweek. Beating Swansea on Sunday would be another bright spot…

Danny

I preferred it when Arsenal had very few English players.2002-2004

AllGunsABlazin

I do like Saido Berahino too

2014-2015 = the year we've been waiting for

C’mon Carl Jenkinson! Next season let’s make it 7 Arsenal players playing for England!

Ain't Sano(go) stopping us now

How is lambert getting a call up? Has he been putting ad cards in phone boxes?

Not much made in the press about this. City have become a poison chalice to young English players. Meanwhile Wenger has gone full circle and now has 6 players in the England squad. Primarily I believe there was a focus away from local talent in recent seasons by other clubs (unless they were for home grown ruling) and that has allowed Wenger to find some value in young English players. bear in mind the average technical level of English players have also gone up since the time Wenger took reign. At the same time, clubs like City and Chelsea have… Read more »

England is an average team. Having six players named to an average squad isn’t much to get excited about.

UGooner

As an England fan, i rebuke that. Anyway, I think the fact they are above average is beyond doubt. They just have a knack for somewhat average performances. I blame the managers. i have almost never been happy with the choices the FA makes. But let me step into your world for a bit. We need home players in our squad anyway, and as Wenger noted, British players are more loyal (Fuck Cashley though!). So if we must at least let’s have English players that CAN get into the England team. Look at these players too. Welbeck, Theo, Jack, Gibbs,… Read more »

Let’s see what a different manager does with these lads.
Unfortunately Roy Hodgson doesn’t look to me like an electrifying personality and I wouldn’t put it past him to fiddle with his cuticles, struggle to fasten his zip, push opposing management in their own technical area during match time, sit with a blanky over his knees, or hold with his head in his hands (instead of supervising play), I am sure Roy Hodgson would never kick a water bottle onto the pitch.
Sam Allardyce would put a rocket up their arses.
Up The Arsenal!
