Thierry Henry has reiterated his desire to return to Arsenal when he finishes his playing career citing a desire to help the club win the Champions League as a major factor.
The Gunners’ record scorer, seemingly still annoyed with himself for those missed chances in the 2006 final in Paris, told L’Equipe Magazine that he has unfinished business in N5 having to failed to secure Europe’s top honour during his eight year tenure at Highbury and the Emirates.
“Nothing is clear,” he said when asked about his plans for retirement.
“I have made no decision and speculating isn’t my thing. One thing is clear: I will stay in football, either to manage, be a consultant or an executive.
“A second thing is clear: I would like to see Arsenal win the Champions League. After, whether now or in the future, it’s not my decision, but I would like to help.
“Because they are my club and because I didn’t manage to give they them Champions League as a player.”
Henry’s comments come a week after Arsene Wenger admitted he’d welcome his compatriot back to London Colney in a coaching capacity, if he is serious about pursuing such a role.
“It’s not impossible – I welcome people who have played for us to come back, but they need to do something,” Wenger said. “It has to be a job available and one that you get up in the morning and you have to do something – not an honorary job.
“He has to learn his job first. I have seen so many people who have the qualities to be a manager but not survive their first job because they are not ready. When you are a football player, you think it’s so simple to be a manager. When you are a manager, you think it’s so complicated suddenly and, if you’re not prepared for that, you cannot survive.
“You learn to handle a dressing room and people. This job is about ideas and putting them into practice. You can only do that if you have the responsibility of the team.”
Thierry did win the Champions League during his short spell with Barcelona, but as far as we’re concerned that doesn’t really count. At 37-years-old, he’s still playing for New York Red Bulls, but is expected to call time on his glittering playing career once the play-offs come to a close in the next month or so.

Given the number of injuries we have, and WILL have by January, it may be smart to sign him as a backup..
Truly a legend amongst mere mortals. To have him on our coaching staff, for his leadership, insight and sheer brilliance would do wonders for our young core. He will obviously not be ready to take the reigns anywhere for a long, long time, but there’s few better to learn your managerial trade from than Mr. Wenger.
Get him back now…… Bergkamp too whilst you’re at it….. go on then throw Bobby in too….. three kings!! COYG!!
And if we bring Vieira back from City we’ll have another prodigal son!

Wow. Here’s a man who has won everything in football (domestic leagues, domestic cups, champs league, all 3 international titles), and saying his job isn’t done because he didn’t help Arsenal win the champions league.
He’s certainly adding to the many reasons as to why he’s always held in such high regard despite having left Arsenal.
No time for sentiment, if Arsene’s really thinks he can offer us something, then by all means, otherwise just please start doing what makes some fucking sense.

Interestingly, he announced his retirement from playing in my copy of Football Manager 2015 on the 5th of December 2014… actually, maybe this isn’t interesting.

I am very sure Henry would make a good manager. He’s intelligent, instinctively, humble, lovable, cool headed and absolutely brilliant.

I feel for you buddy. I was 18 in 2004, my birthday weekend was when he slalomed his way through the Liverpool defence, left Carragher on his arse and scored his hat-trick to set up the finish to the Invincibles season.
Whatever happens to Arsenal in the future, I will always feel privileged I was able to watch the great man and the rest of that team make history.
There was a programme on Sky the other night which had all 175 league goals that Henry scored!
He was some player and scored so many great goals, I think he spoilt us as he set the bar so high.
It’ll be sad when Henry leaves MLS as I won’t have a reason to attend matches- but the prospect of Titi as a coach at The Arsenal is a wonderful one. Perhaps we could also being back Sol Campbell as an assistant to Bould?
Henry would make a great striker coach. Guys like sanogo, akpom and campbell would learn alot from him.

That’s a great scenario, but I’d have serious doubts as to whether DB10 would ever be that uncoordinated….Ok. For Maureen there’s the exception.
Might pop down Coral and see if I can get some odds for that to happen! The only way I could improve that is if Maureens slip isn’t caused by a slip, but instead by Martin Keown emerging from the crowd, running up behind him and clocking him round the back of the head with an elbow.
