Henry hints at Arsenal return

Thierry Henry has reiterated his desire to return to Arsenal when he finishes his playing career citing a desire to help the club win the Champions League as a major factor.

The Gunners’ record scorer, seemingly still annoyed with himself for those missed chances in the 2006 final in Paris, told L’Equipe Magazine that he has unfinished business in N5 having to failed to secure Europe’s top honour during his eight year tenure at Highbury and the Emirates.

“Nothing is clear,” he said when asked about his plans for retirement.

“I have made no decision and speculating isn’t my thing. One thing is clear: I will stay in football, either to manage, be a consultant or an executive.

“A second thing is clear: I would like to see Arsenal win the Champions League. After, whether now or in the future, it’s not my decision, but I would like to help.

“Because they are my club and because I didn’t manage to give they them Champions League as a player.”

Henry’s comments come a week after Arsene Wenger admitted he’d welcome his compatriot back to London Colney in a coaching capacity, if he is serious about pursuing such a role.

“It’s not impossible – I welcome people who have played for us to come back, but they need to do something,” Wenger said. “It has to be a job available and one that you get up in the morning and you have to do something – not an honorary job.

“He has to learn his job first. I have seen so many people who have the qualities to be a manager but not survive their first job because they are not ready. When you are a football player, you think it’s so simple to be a manager. When you are a manager, you think it’s so complicated suddenly and, if you’re not prepared for that, you cannot survive.

“You learn to handle a dressing room and people. This job is about ideas and putting them into practice. You can only do that if you have the responsibility of the team.”

Thierry did win the Champions League during his short spell with Barcelona, but as far as we’re concerned that doesn’t really count. At 37-years-old, he’s still playing for New York Red Bulls, but is expected to call time on his glittering playing career once the play-offs come to a close in the next month or so.

just, 🙂

2014-2015 = the year we've been waiting for

Against West Brom?!

alex

Here’s a man who gave the club just about everything possible while he was there and still wants to/feels the need to give more.
Contrasts with some of the other people who’ve gone in and out over the years.

David

with Welbeck and Walcott out right now, why not give him a couple of games too!

I could watch highlights of Henry all day long 🙂

Jacques

Given the number of injuries we have, and WILL have by January, it may be smart to sign him as a backup..

George

Truly a legend amongst mere mortals. To have him on our coaching staff, for his leadership, insight and sheer brilliance would do wonders for our young core. He will obviously not be ready to take the reigns anywhere for a long, long time, but there’s few better to learn your managerial trade from than Mr. Wenger.

gunnersaurusismydad

Get him back now…… Bergkamp too whilst you’re at it….. go on then throw Bobby in too….. three kings!! COYG!!

Phil

And if we bring Vieira back from City we’ll have another prodigal son!

H18ury

It seems he’s burnt his bridges unfortunately.

Lord of the goals: the return of the king

Lacku

What a man.

Dave the Aussie Goon

He’s welcome at any time. The King will return

Cliff Bastin

That picture nailed me right in the feels.

BillyBatts

Indeed. Too soon man, too soon.

Ormey88

GIVE THAT MAN A STATUE.

Mark Hughes

Another one?!

Ormey88

Joke. Obvz.

zflair

Wow. Here’s a man who has won everything in football (domestic leagues, domestic cups, champs league, all 3 international titles), and saying his job isn’t done because he didn’t help Arsenal win the champions league.

He’s certainly adding to the many reasons as to why he’s always held in such high regard despite having left Arsenal.

Rich

No time for sentiment, if Arsene’s really thinks he can offer us something, then by all means, otherwise just please start doing what makes some fucking sense.
Defensive midfielder and a fucking centre half.

Mark Hughes

Did you actually read the article? Based on your comment I would guess you did not. As Henry states, he would like to come back WHEN HE HAS RETIRED FROM PLAYING either to manage, be a consultant or an executive.

Caleb

Thierry is love. What a man!

Goon

Good to see Wenger being professional about it. Good players don’t make good managers most of the time but I hope he does

Phil

Well, we can always hope he turns out like Cruyff/Beckenbauer/Guardiola rather than someone like Maradona.

Arsenalman29

What separates the players/managers named above, from Maradona?

Ans = Cocaine

Henry is no druggie

I think Henry would be a decent manager 😀

royce

His last game could be tomorrow, red bulls are 2-1 down on aggregate traveling to Boston against the Revolution. He’s already more manager of the red bulls than that wormy looking guy who makes idiotic reaction faces to the camera for a living.

Ain't Sano(go) stopping us now

I love that man more than bacon sandwiches

Ben

Quality!
Did anyone see the Thierry legends thing on Sky?
Awesome…
And Pires.

Arsenalman29

Nothing is better than Bacon

MawuenaCosta

We want henry back

tiny

The only man that would tempt me to going gay!

Mark Hughes

Interestingly, he announced his retirement from playing in my copy of Football Manager 2015 on the 5th of December 2014… actually, maybe this isn’t interesting.

AlaminIImam

All the best wherever you are…TH

o2ba

It would certainly be an honour to have this footballing genius back in the fold.im sure he’d be as big a giant of the game as coach or manager as he was on the pitch.

Hessojay

I am very sure Henry would make a good manager. He’s intelligent, instinctively, humble, lovable, cool headed and absolutely brilliant.

Arsenalman29

Va va voom

Scramy

Being 18 now, I’m so sad I never really got to fully appreciate this guy when he was running the show! Love him still obviously

Nobody

You should watch the ‘Thierry Henry – Legend’ documentry on youtube if u havent already. I thought it was really good.

leroy

i’d also recommend ‘centurions – 100 goals of dennis bergkamp / thierry henry’

awesome dvds

Arsenalman29

I have a dvd of him, i got it when i was around 18 i think, if you are from Ireland i could post it to you, you can pay postage i give you the dvd for free. I have watched it like 50 times already, and made others watch it wether they wanted to or not lol

Framps

I feel for you buddy. I was 18 in 2004, my birthday weekend was when he slalomed his way through the Liverpool defence, left Carragher on his arse and scored his hat-trick to set up the finish to the Invincibles season.

Whatever happens to Arsenal in the future, I will always feel privileged I was able to watch the great man and the rest of that team make history.

Heisenberg

There was a programme on Sky the other night which had all 175 league goals that Henry scored!
He was some player and scored so many great goals, I think he spoilt us as he set the bar so high.

badaab

It’ll be sad when Henry leaves MLS as I won’t have a reason to attend matches- but the prospect of Titi as a coach at The Arsenal is a wonderful one. Perhaps we could also being back Sol Campbell as an assistant to Bould?

Trez

Henry would make a great striker coach. Guys like sanogo, akpom and campbell would learn alot from him.

GoonerN16

Henry is unique, one in one hundred million. He is super class, and a gooner to boot. Awesome…. a true LEGEND!

santori

He’s a smart fellow Thierry. He’d probably make a good gaffer.

Great potential as a manager. I’d think he should go under Arsene’s tutelage.

We also have Bergkamp (albeit travel may be a bit of an issue)

Good to have an ex Arsenal boy as gaffer to eventually take over Wenger.

Arsene must surely be already plotting his retirement from the scene given age. He has a 3 year contract to run which is sufficient time to either groom from within or select from market (or both)

Freddys Hairdye

Read that whole article with goosebumps

Arsenalman29

Me too Freddys Hairdye, and with a cheeky grin, and my mind went off to the Champions League final 2020 Arsenal v Chelsea, somewhere in Europe, pouring rain, last minutes Arsenal winning 2-1 Whistle blows for full time, henry stands right in front of Mourinho with his arms in the air, slowly walking backwards onto the pitch, nodding his head up and down whilst tapping his heart and the Arsenal crest, whilst Mourinho gets angry and runs for Henry, and he slips and falls head first into a puddle full of dirt. Then Henry’s assistant, Bergkamp (accidentally) slips on the… Read more »

gazgoon

That’s a great scenario, but I’d have serious doubts as to whether DB10 would ever be that uncoordinated….Ok. For Maureen there’s the exception.

Freddys Hairdye

Might pop down Coral and see if I can get some odds for that to happen! The only way I could improve that is if Maureens slip isn’t caused by a slip, but instead by Martin Keown emerging from the crowd, running up behind him and clocking him round the back of the head with an elbow.

Dexterbear

I cant see mourinho still being at chelsea in 6 years. Thats not his style.

I have his recurring dream where arsene finally beats mourinho for the first time in the champions league final.

Fuzz

retournez a nous Titi!
