New boy Gabriel has been called up to the Brazilian national squad for the first time for their upcoming game against Chile.
The two South American sides will meet at the Emirates next week, and the location of the game is likely to have had a bearing on his selection.
However, it’s a step forward for the former Villarreal player who joined the club in January. He replaces the injured David Luiz who stepped on multiple rakes and let out a juddering sigh each time it happened.
Since his arrival he’s made four appearances for the club and returned from a hamstring injury to take a place on the bench for the midweek win over Monaco.

Or maybe it’s the realisation that David Luiz isn’t any better when he’s fit than when he’s injured.
To be fair Luiz has a trait i will forever love. He will not be bullied by ANYONE. He is a leader. and he’s been in more episodes of simpsons than most lol
Luiz is a very good player. He’s been unfairly vilified in the media as much as Ozil.

If you play for Arsenal and you are not called up to your national team, then you never will be. I can’t remember a first team player under Wenger who left Arsenal and got his first call-up elsewhere. Rather, many lose their place when they leave; ask Flamini.
I believe that if Arteta had been with us all the time he spent at Everton, he would be a Spanish international by now.
There is a paranoid part of me that thinks that Arsene’s players get called up to their respective national teams to aid the conspiracy of keeping half of the Arsenal side injured at all times.

with Chambers and Gabriel making debut with their national teams after joining arsenal, i think Bellerin will be the next arsenal to be called up for the first time with national team.

It’s a shame Mikel Arteta hasn’t gotten a call up in recent years… or ever I believe? He is definitely deserving even if Spain have an abundance of diverse talent to choose from.
I suppose now we know why he got the work permit. Arsenal knew he would be called up by Brazil (I don’t buy it that its only because of Luiz’s ‘injury’).
