Jon Toral set for La Liga loan spell

According to journalist Kike Marin, Jon Toral is set to join CF Granada on loan for the 2016/17 campaign.

The La Liga side just avoided relegation last season, and Toral will join off the back of a fantastic loan spell at Birmingham City.

The 21 year old was named Supporter’s Player of the Season – garnering 40% more votes than anyone else.

He won goal of the season for a brilliant volley against Ipswich, and won the acclaim of his peers by being named Players Player of the Year.

It doesn’t appear to have been enough to convince Arsene Wenger to make him part of the Arsenal first team squad, and with just one year left on his current deal this could spell the end of his career in North London.

However, it’s not impossible that he might sign new terms before he goes – enabling Arsenal to see him develop further or get a fee should they decide to move him on.

We’ll see how this one goes, but with competition from Granit Xhaka, Mohamed Elneny, Aaron Ramsey, Jack Wilshere, Santi Cazorla, Francis Coquelin and Mesut Ozil for a place in the team, a loan spell is no real surprise.

Playing in La Liga is great for him but I’d be disappointed if he loaned out and not signed new contract. Give this lad a proper chance, please.

Arsenal4Life

Guy gets sent out on loan, wins player of the season for that club, and goal of the season in that competition, and with the departing Rosicky, Arteta and Flamini still can’t get a chance. I think he’s probably as good as gone for good. Which is really disappointing for me, the same way Campbell was on the bench no matter what he did.
Shame.

Cliff Bastin

Would you have him in our starting 11?

Crash Fistfight

I don’t think that’s necessarily the point. He could eventually be that good, but he could have been a useful squad player at the moment (he’s used to playing centrally and out wide, is neat and tidy and looks like he’s not afraid to work hard).

If nothing else, it would show him that he’s in the clubs future plans and might make him more inclined to sign a new contract. With this move, I can’t imagine he’d be too thrilled to sign up to a new contract moving forward.

Eissek

Well if he remains with us then it unlikely he would get any playing time unless a major injury crisis hits our midfield. And unless this happens then most of his season would be spent either playing for the u21s or maybe very occasionally making it to the bench, in which case he would better off starting for a team and gaining further experience.
And as far as Rosicky, Arteta and Flamini leaving we have essentially replaced them with Xhaka, Elneny and Iwobi

Double98

Why loan him out if you are letting him leave on a free?? If he’s going he wll be sold, if hes getting loaned he will be back..
Calm Down dears…

Theo's Radar

Give him an extra year on his deal and pocket some money if we’re still not keen at the end of the season!

Trez

Why do I get the horrible feeling that Toral might just end up as Chuks Aneke? Both had great seasons on loan, but Aneke ended up leaving.
I hope we sign him to a new deal. Then again, he does have huge competition in front of him.

Crash Fistfight

Do you mean Benik Afobe? What has Chuks Aneke done recently?

Chris

Toral and Crowley loans sorted. Keeping Zelalem around the squad?

Doug

I doubt it. FWIW – Klinsmann said he wasn’t ready for the US squad this summer. If that is the case I can’t see him making it at Arsenal this season

Ross

Not many of our players seems to have very good spells in Spain. The lad looks a tidy player with some fight in him too. Surprised we haven’t tried to get him a prem deal. Think he would do well at a club like Bournemouth and the right kind of manager too

Fabulous

Have to agree. Bournemouth, Sunderland, Everton, plenty of options in the PL for a loan spell, which definitely will aid his transition to Arsenal first team. As many has pointed out the La Liga is not where we’ve had most joy in developing youth, at the same time he originally was from Spain so I can’t really see the point. It’d be a shame if he isn’t given the chance at Arsenal, he definitely can learn a thing or two from Xhaka, similar styles the two of them. More and more this summer seems to be turning out like the… Read more »

Crash Fistfight

No way Everton would go for him – there’s a rumour they’re going to get Juan Mata, which shows the levels of cash they have with Moshiri. If they can sign Mata-level players they’re not going to go for loan deals for unproven players.

David Hillier's luggage

He’d suit somewhere like Bournemouth, Swansea or one of the promoted sides like Boro. Keep him away from Allardyce and Sunderland though

Bill

He’s going to play in what seems to be the best league in the world due to the winners and runners up of the champions league and the Europa league titles. If he can make good there on a bottom team then he will be obviously ready for the premier league. Bear in mind that the championship, while a tough as nails league is not the top flight, and only shows he’s a super star in a lower league.

Bill

Hope he does well though, he seems special in that well edited YouTube video.

Nullvinho

He’s a real prospect. Gutted that he might not get a chance to turn out for the first team.

Bosscielny

I think he deserves a proper chance, maybe not this season but definitely in the near future.

Even if he fails to make it here, he’s good enough to get a decent transfer fees in return. So a new deal should definitely be offered.

Seàn

I strongly feel john toral deserves a chance in the first team.he has served his apprenticeship.arsène wenger is a manager who gives youth an opportunity I’m very surprised he wont get a chance look at all our players that got injured last year we may yet need him
Seàn Casey

Vonnie

I’m disappointed, to be honest, if this is true, as I think he’s a really good young player and I was hoping he’d get a chance this season. I don’t know anything about Granada or their manager so I don’t know how suitable a loan it would be, but it seems a bit wierd, especially as we got him from Barca.

hg

Don’t bother telling us where he’s from 😛

Stillmatic

Wenger is a bit of a paradox at times. On one hand, there’s no other manager in the league, barring the impending Guardiola, who’s willing to give youth a chance like he does. On the other, he seems to abide by this strict informal hierarchy of players, whereby some players are always regarded as senior no matter how badly the senior players may be playing. We’ve seen it before. He gave guys like Djourou multiple chances no matter how poorly he performed (other than that 6 month purple patch) yet Havard Nortdveit was never given the chance to play a… Read more »

Anup

I agree that Wenger is a bit of a paradox in this sense, however, it seems in tough times (recent years where we’ve needed the 4th place ‘trophy’) Wenger wasn’t as willing to play young players. I think this is to do with the expectation and pressure put on their shoulders. Perhaps he saw what that level of pressure did to players like Senderos and Djourou and decided their fledgling careers (e.g nordveit) would be best served without such a pressure so early on. I think this season is similar in that respect, as there is an immense amount of… Read more »

What I’m saying is, Toral should’ve AT LEAST be given a preseason chance.

Ivan182

Toral is so bad like was flamini? Cause flamini was in the first team with that horrible football
Give The chance to The boy

santori

Shop window. Its going to be hard to break into the midfield in the coming 3-5 seasons. The only players he could hope to displace may be Santi because of age but Toral isn’t as creative OR Elneny the jack of all trades at the moment. Coquelin and Granit will secure the holding role. Jack and Ramsey will link or provide back up to Ozil. Then there is also the excellent Zelalem coming off a great season with Rangers. That said, you never know and Toral needs to use this loan wisely regardless. Wenger has had success with Campbell and… Read more »

Zelalem?
Who do you think had the better loan between Zelalem and Toral?

Chamakh

Zelalem played a good season in the scottish CHAMPIONSHIP. Nowhere near the first 11 yet.

Hashim

Really wanted him to be in the Arsenal side. I think he has proved himself to be a good player and has done enough to get a place ahead of the selfie loving Oxlade-Chamberlain. But with one year on his contract, I dont think Arsene Wenger will keep him and will move him on and Arsenal will miss another very good academy prospect, just like Benik Afobe, Kyle Bartley, and many many others

Hypegriperipe

If he was english and had just finished a loan spell like that the hype would be in full effect.

BillyBatts

He’s actually half English (mother’s side) and hasn’t represented Spain at senior level.

Totally take your point though.

steve

As a previous message says, the summer started well but nothing much since yet the chavs and manure have invested in two players we could have afforded and will unfortunately add quality and depth to those teams/dross!!!!

Rohith J

Was hoping to see him in Arsenal colours. Clearly no space right now. The fact that a Spanish top tier team is interested is testament to the fact that he’s a capable player, but then so are Joel Campbell and Carlos Vela.

Jamie Vardinho

Send him on a 6 month loan with a recall clause, assuming we get our annual injury crisis, recall him in Jan

HeyGirlNiceArse

Everybody chill out man, would you rather have him make 7 or 8 cameo appearances in a few cup games or play 30+ matches as a starter in La Liga? It’s common sense for fuck sakes

Stillmatic

I dunno. I’d like for us to for once go into a season with some squad depth and not end up in a state were we are decimated by injuries and resort to playing 3rd choice players in new and unfamiliar roles just to compensate.

But it’s not like we’re ever in one of those situations. Lol

sloppy_g

Please be noted that we’re going to miss a massive number of our best players at the begining of the season due to the EURO e.g. Ozil, Ramsey, Giroud, Koscielny, and maybe even Xhaka and Wilshere. On top of that, Iwobi won’t be available as well because he’s playing for Nigeria in the Olympics, let alone a fatigued Alexis returning from Copa America. SO PLEASE KEEP TORAL IN THE SQUARD, at least until the end of August when the transfer window closed.

Santi Claus

I think this is a great opportunity for Toral. He’ll be playing under Paco Jemez in a really attacking Granada side that will be aiming to finish a bit higher than just avoiding relegation. Hopefully with the combative strength he has developed after two very good years in the championship he’ll now get the chance to develop his finesse a bit more over there. I’m not writing this boy off just yet. Plus I’d be gutted if he became another Lansbury.

Vonnie

If this genuinely is a good opportunity it makes me feel better, because I really think he’s a good young player and I was hoping he’d get his chance this season. What you say makes sense if Granada is the right club for him to develop further, and our midfield being a bit crowded at the moment. I’m just hoping he has a future with us and isn’t being shunted aside.
