Lucas Perez is due to return to action for the Swansea game after missing out on the trip to Burnley with what was reported as a ‘minor knee injury’.
Despite some suggestions he was fit to play, we understand the Spanish striker suffered some swelling to his knee after training late last week. Although the inflammation had died down the next morning, Arsene Wenger was not willing to take the risk of bringing him into the travelling squad for an away game.
Had it been a home game he might well have been included in the squad, which goes some way to clearing up the confusion that has surrounded the former Deportivo man’s absence from the panel last Sunday.
With Alexis Sanchez playing well up front, his chances have been limited so far, but he did score a penalty and an excellent solo goal in the 4-0 win over Nottingham Forest in the EFL Cup.
There’s more action in that competition after the Interlull when we entertain Reading on October 25th, a game which should provide him with another start on top of whatever minutes he manages in the two Premier League games and one Champions League fixture before that.
He was just undergoing the arsenal coronation.
chicken. If you ask me.
He’s not. And we didn’t.
Coronation chicken, no less.
Don’t worry rodge, loads of people on here don’t seem to understand humour. Might also have got lost in translation – is Coronation chicken only a thing in the UK?
Better to sit him for one game and rest during the interlull than to risk getting hurt and going out for a month or more.
Makes a refreshing change that we’re able to rest players with a knock than playing them into that infamous red zone.
Cool. We’re gonna need his Welbeckian 8 goals this season.
How about a Welbeckian effort from Welbeck when he’s back in January
In away games to big clubs we could use the “Man City plan” with him up top and Alexis and Theo wide. With some combination of Ozil, Santi and Xhaka pinging passes that’s a pacy front three for a counterattacking game.
I’d quite like to see that anyway. Iwobi is certainly improving and exciting but he’s not exactly rattling the goals in . Would rather see him, Iwobi, having a go against Reading.
The Coq is a hard man, he will bench Xhaka probably
i am worried about that. tottenham utterly dominated city because all their players ran their a$$ to the ground and did the dirty work. even eriksen their no10 player made a whooping 16 ball recoveries in that game alone. all their players defended 110% for their team but when it comes to our team we have players that have that sort of commitment likes sanchez ramsey walcot right now coq etc. but their are players who dont do that . ozil for instance for all his talent is not going to do that . almost always when we loose possession… Read more »
When are we expecting Rambo back?
In ‘3 weeks’.
That goal! Won’t forget it anytime soon.
I want any news on Oli please.
He’s alive and doing well. XD
Get well soon, Lucas. We miss you.
As I mentioned, its not a zero sum game. Before some simpletons start criticising the likes of Ox, they should do very well to remember Walcott. The same people I would imagine did not give Walcott and Ramsey a chance at similar age. …or even Walcott at start of this season. We need all players to be firing. There’s no Coquelin oR Granit. There’s no Alexis OR Giroud Or Lucas. We need them all to be on as good a level as possible. Guess what, we have such a thing as injury that sometimes afflicts the squad. Also rotation with… Read more »
I have really high hopes for Lucas. I can’t wait to see him play some more, but the fact that he hasn’t featured much shows Alexis is doing well up top so I’m happy waiting.
I do hope he gets a chance at some point to get some league starts in so we can all at least see what he is capable of once he gets a consistent run, though hard to move Sanchez from striker on the form he is on right now.
With Alexis currently killing it through the middle, might we see Lucas on the left wing? It might be interesting as he’s the only eligible left-footer we have for that position.
Hopefully he can get some more playing time and show he can fill in – up front or up on the left. We do have to refresh some players some time – Ozil, Santi and Alexis are candidates who become so ‘indispensible’ and yet are in danger of diminishing energy levels.
