Wenger: We can bounce back again

Arsene Wenger says Arsenal can recover from the setback of drawing with Middlesbrough having already proved their mettle going 12 games unbeaten since their defeat to Liverpool on the opening day of the season.

Having scored six goals against Ludogorets on Tuesday night the Gunners struggled to produce the same free-flowing football against Aitor Karanka’s organised Boro and could easily have lost were it not for the reflexes of keeper Petr Cech.

Speaking after the game, the boss turned the focus to Tuesday evening’s EFL Cup game with Reading; a match for which he’s expected to make a number of changes.

“We have a game on Tuesday night so let’s come back to winning habits straight away. It’s [about] how you deal with disappointment and how you bounce back and I believe that the group is strong enough.

“We lost the first game here against Liverpool and after that we bounced back in a very strong way so that’s what we want to do again.

“We had 75 per cent possession but we couldn’t finish enough our combination play,” he added.

“We lacked a bit of speed and freshness in what we started, and at the end of the day it was a frustrating nil-nil.

“At least we were intelligent enough not to lose it though, because in the first half we were under threat a few times. At the end of the day we got the point, it is not enough, of course, but it is still a point.”

Yes, we can

MIke

Ahhh you just made me think of Eddie Murphy in the nutty professor there …

Hulk

No one should ever have to think of Eddie Murphy in the Nutty professor

Wengerballz

I’d love to see our stats against bus-parking teams with, and without Olivier

Wengerballz

Could you make that happen blogs? Pwettypeas

Fuhgedaboudit

Me too.

Lord Bendtner

With a strawberry flavored cherry on top

MIke

A lot of people saying boro parked the bus, but , dam they had some great chances , and Petr Cech was again excellent for us .
We just didn’t play well, and based on how the game went, I’m happy to get a point out of it.
Could easily have screwed it up and lost there.
Let’s see how we react anyway.

Fuhgedaboudit

I am also worried about Monreal lately. He keeps getting beat by pace.

Trez

I’m afraid he’s slowing down. It’s no surprise we were being linked to sidibe, Rodriguez and guerreiro. He’s been consistent for 18 months, a drop in form is to be expected. HE’S also in his 30s I think.

Sheffield Goon

He’s 30.

David C

was inevitable, but I think we have good coverage there this season between Nacho and Gibbs. Definitely should be thinking about an upgrade in the summer at LB.

MIke

He does , but I’d still choose him over Gibbs .
Nacho is better at defending.
Iwobi is not good at helping him that side either.

Mootilated

So far, in the last two games, we have been heavily exposed on the left. Iwobi isn’t helping too much as he suffers defensively.

Trez

Had the easiest game of the top 3, and blew it. This is so frustrating. I knew Southampton would get a draw at city. We would’ve been 2 points ahead.
Second place is not bad, but we need to start taking advantage of slip ups.
Good thing is Spuds are 4th place. That has cheered me up a great deal.

Mustrum Ridcully

There are no easy games in this league. Most teams can play disciplined defensive football and Borough are quite good. A win would have been good but the side missed the Santo magic. Also we did not pass the ball fast enough. I don’t think Giroud would have made a big difference as they defended well.

What about Maureen though. Utterly outplayed by Chelski. Couldn’t happen to a more horrible person!

Godfrey Twatschloch

I watched MU and The Cunts hoping for a MU victory based on them being further down the table than Cuntski thus having a bigger gap to catch up with us. I also figured that while Maureen and Cunsta cancel each other out I am rather fond of Ibrahimovic but fuck me were MU outplayed.

Citeh drawing against Southampton is good. Further acknowledgement for Guardiola that he’s in a tougher league than what he had in Germany and Spain.

Gooner

Watching that match confirmed to me how much more I hate Mourinho than Chelsea. I was loving it.

Godfrey Twatschloch

A poignant comment by someone who I guess is a Man U fan bemoaned that 600 million spent since Moyes and they still play like a mid table team.

I am all for hating Mourinho but Chelsea still have Costa on their payroll and that is no small matter.

Stringer Bell

Of course you knew Southampton would draw at city.

Trez

Yes I did.

Femi

Go get Van holt of Sunderland. He is real deal

ForeignGooner

No.

José P

Sorry, off topic, but I can’t trust any place else. Is it safe to buy tickets outside the official website? Though the prices seem to be on the higher side, I may be staying for a short while in the UK. I wanted to watch the derby on the 6th.

Conrado

Check if there is a fan club near you and talk to them. Thats your safest bet

Arsepedant

Too late to get tickets through a foreign fan club. The deadline for foreign supporters clubs is between the sale periods for gold members and silver members, and for the derby, that was about six weeks ago.

At this time, your only option is to keep an eye on the ticket exchange and hope something becomes available. Tickets for that match are by far the hardest to get all season long, so good luck to you.

The comment that didn't get published on Arseblog News

I see that no-one (more knowledgeable than me) is answering.

I have never bought a ticket from an external website, hence I can’t recommend a reliable one.

If however you haven’t found a ticket by the 6th, I suggest you show up (a few hours before kickoff) outside the stadium. There are bound to be a few touts with spare tickets. Prepare to pay a hefty premium (but at the same time do try to drive the price down from the fuckers! Generally act like a tourist who is only casually interested in the game.)

Good luck.

Thank you

Arsepedant

Be aware, however, that reselling tickets is a criminal offence in England. I’m not sure if they prosecute the buyer as well as the seller, but you’ll be taking a risk.

Leonardo

You ‘ve go to love anybody that hurts Mourinho

Godfrey Twatschloch

The Chelsea fans where chanting his name towards the end.

Godfrey Twatschloch

So far two people who don’t like that fact that the fans of Mourinho’s former club mocked him today.

Gandalf

You can tell he’s really disappointed with this result.

If mourinho hadn’t been so busy helping karanka this week he could have developed a plan to draw 0-0 with Chelsea ???

Fuhgedaboudit

Chelsea up 3-0. Watching Mourinho’s United lose is second only to watching us win. God, do I hate that arrogant asshole! “The Special One” my ass.

santori

HAHAHAHA

Lets not get too carried away with our misery.

Poor negative Arsenal fans at it again after a draw.

City drew. Who would think we’d be joint 3rd at close to 10 games played. Certainly not the general punditry who didn’t even think we would factor above 6th … again…poor fools.

I mean we beat most of the big teams last season. We beat Chelsea this season, clearly we aren’t as poor as people would suggest unless CHelsea are that poor…

And United…:D

santori

The word is Bouncebackability, its a wengerism.

Spurs and United to scalp soon.

Donald Drumpf

Actually I think it was Iain Dowie that coined the phrase.

santori

I don’t even know what all the gnashing of teeth is about by some of the usual suspects.

I mean, we are still joint top with so much to play for.:D

City also suffered a bit of fatigue and dropped points.

We need to rotate better.

Which is why I have said that its not a question of Alexis over GIroud or Iwobi over Ox. Giroud and Ox are not secondary players.

We need all the players to be functioning at top level and as many tools in the Arsenal as possible.

Squiggle

Yup. Not the ideal result but when put next to those of the other title contenders it’s not a bad one, either.

The only emphatic win was Chelsea’s and since that was against Mourinho it doesn’t count as a negative.

Antispuds returns

I wonder if Pears Morgan saw the Chelsea game today? ?? Maureen has just proved that spending without class can get you beaten 4 nil still. Even without manager manure should have done better. If they want to play in Europe next season, the should replace him now. Chelsea left it late last season and see where they are.

FrankTheTank

I think we need to be more direct and take more risk in our attacking play when we face organized deep lying defensive teams. Passing the ball sideways for 90 minutes keeping as much possession as possible because you are afraid to lose it is just meaningless when you need to score. Pump the ball into the box, shoot from distance, run at the defenders, and when we lose it just close down quickly to win it back and go again. Go for the throat. They had more attempts on goal than we did and they only had 25% possession.… Read more »

Mustrum Ridcully, Unseen Academicals

Also. We need to pass faster in their half. Passing from side to side is not necessarily bad as it pulls defenders out if position and creates gaps. However it has to be done with some speed. To create the gaps. We didn’t do that.

Dial square

Yes we looked a bit tired yesterday, and short of a quick skilful midfielder who can create or score – JW anyone?

Godfrey Twatschloch

I don’t see what we have to bounce back from. One draw against a well playing team off the back of a winning spree is hardly a set back. We are on a roll!

Georgeycharles

Listening to that obnoxious twat Danny Mills creaming himself over Chelsea and tipping them to win the league after one good performance, was really annoying. When it was pointed out they themselves had been taken apart by Arsenal, he said nothing for a couple of minutes, before saying “yes, but they’re on the way down…”. So there you have it,one good game for Chelshit and one draw for Arsenal and Mills has got it all figured out….asshole..

Godfrey Twatschloch

“yes, but they’re on the way down…”

That’s some prediction to make. How does he know? He doesn’t, does he? As little as he knows that Chelsea will win. What’s wrong with some pundits?

Gooner

Ugh, one of the worst pundits on Five Live. I just switch off when I hear his or Chris Sutton’s voice, no point listening to such drivel.

AusDrexler

I think if Xhaka was available it may have been a different story… his wilingness and ability to have a crack from distance would mean a player would of been forced outside the box a bit more to cover that possibility.. thus creating a smidgen more space around the boxes edge to weave the Arsenal magic.

AnonymousGun

We had a similar guy playing that loves to take long shot as well.

AusDrexler

Yes but loving to shoot from distance and being effective from distance… thats the difference. Xhaka has recent success and that would of played on a defenders mind.

Thierry Bergkamp

Off topic, but did anybody see that Las Palmas goal from the La Liga game vs Villareal? That was what makes football a beautiful game.

Georgeycharles

It was a bit special, even if it was scored by an ex spud
