Arsene Wenger says there is a high chance that Carl Jenkinson will leave Arsenal in the coming days with Crystal Palace currently in negotiations to sign the right-back on a permanent basis.
The England international, 24, has made five starts for the Gunners this season as back-up to Hector Bellerin but has looked short of confidence following a ten-month spell on the sidelines recovering from ACL surgery.
A number of clubs are thought to have enquired after the defender in recent weeks. Hull City’s former manager Mike Phelan went public on contact, while West Ham United, where Jenkinson spent two loan spells, are also believed to have made an approach.
“Carl…it’s a possibility that he will move yes. In the next two or three days,” Wenger told his pre-Swansea press conference.
Asked if Sam Allardyce’s Crystal Palace were the front-runners, the boss added, “You look well informed.”
“It’s possible yes, I cannot tell you much more because we haven’t come to a conclusion yet.”
Despite Jenkinson’s potential departure, Wenger played down suggestions he could look to bring in a replacement during the transfer window.
“No we have still Mathieu Debuchy who is injured, we have Gabriel who plays there at the moment as well. We have Bellerin.
“We are not short in this position which is why we allow one of the players to go out because they have less opportunities to play.”
Having signed a contract extension in 2015, Jenkinson is under contract at Arsenal until 2018 and could command a fee in the region of £3 million. If the deal goes through it’ll be sad to bid farewell to a player with such an affection for the club…and also to his singing dad.

Super sad, perhaps Wenger knows more but I feel like he should have been given one more chance this season, given how long he was out. On the other hand it was always tough fit for him in our current system seeing as we rely so much on Hector’s blistering pace, and failing that you at least want Gabriel’s decent pace and defensive disposition.
3 million is fuckin cheap, considering he is so young and experience PL wise.
Wenger Should also add a buy back clause when selling.

I agree we seem to suck at getting a decent valuation for our players. I appreciate these players may be deadwood but United have just sold theirs for 24m to Everton. We should be selling 25-50% higher on our outgoing players for sure.
Those are decent enough prices. You want to get them off the wage list quickly.
They can get stuck in and around the squad otherwise, see Bendtner etc.We may then have to make up for loan deals and be paying out.
Cut the losses and move on.
Wenger traditionally does not pay much for most of these players so he has already turned a profit.

Gutted about this. He did well at West Ham when he was fit. I love it when we have proper Gooners in the squad. I was hoping it was only going to be on loan. Whatever it is, I hope he does well.

Gabriel is a better Rback than Jenko even if he should have only played there once.
He is more composed and has more guile to his game.
And he is reasonably quick.
Jenkinson done better than most Arsenal fans, played for Arsenal check, scored for Arsenal check, won fa cup with Arsenal check. He needs to play, and he done well in West Ham when Sam was manager there. You never know maybe one day he will be back as solid FB after 3-4 full seasons under his belt.

Why bother. Gabriel covers the position even if Debuchy should leave. Next summer we can also assess Chambers in the position.
He was excellent for Soton at Rback which is his NATURAL position.
MOst Arsenal fans are deluded. NO offense. They see quality when there isn’t. They abuse certain players who are better than they think. Case in point, Giroud, Per, Flamini constantly come in for abuse but are much better and effective players than imagined. Flamini held together midfield with the difficult to play with Ramsey over a period last season when we were without a=some of our best assets. Over that period they won against City and Olympiakos. Jenko may prosper under Big Sam’s style of play.
No nonsense fairly route one. No need for technicality. Keep it simple.
Arsenal’s game is a bit too articulate for Jenko. We are often encamped trying to work/break down tight spaces further up the pitch. Our defense is often higher and gets stretched.
Under different circumstance, he can be more effective.
Kudos to him I reckoned his early years with us was prospectful. His crosses made me think he would someday be that full back assist galore or even plays up the pitch. Not to mention all of his Arsenal related collections hung on his wall. He’s a gooner thru n thru. Still gutted to see Corporal’s departure if that comes true.
This is the pragmatism we have demanded from Wenger for long. When you identify a player who hasn’t got the quality to fit in and help our aspirations, move him on as dispassionately as possible so we can make way for better players. We should continue to seek to improve the team, and not get unnecessarily emotional. At the risk of more thumb-downs, I dare say that Oxlaide-Chamberlain should be next to go.
