Arsenal face Southampton in FA Cup 4th round

Arsenal will play Southampton in the 4th round of the FA Cup after the Saints overcame Norwich in a replay this evening.

Having drawn 2-2 at Carrow Road last weekend, the tie went to a second game at St Mary’s this evening.

With replays in the early rounds of the cup a thing of the past, the Championship side came close to bringing the game to a penalty shoot-out, but an injury time goal from Shane Long saw Claude Puel’s team through.

The date and time of the game has yet to be decided, but it will take place the weekend of January 28th/29th
, and we will be away from home at a ground that hasn’t been too kind in recent times.

Update : It has been confirmed for Saturday 28th, 5.30pm on BT Sports (thanks James Dower)

The Gunners haven’t won away at Southampton since 2003, when a Robert Pires goal gave us a Premier League win there that December (although that does include a 7 year period when we didn’t play them after they’d been relegated).

The Saints also knocked us out of the EFL Cup back in November, so Arsene Wenger will be looking to ensure his compatriot doesn’t enjoy a cup double over us in one season.

GunnerDareMacedonia

It is time to put them on sword, I say bring them on we have plenty of players coming from injuries also the ones on the bench who want to prove themselves. And most importantly they don’t have koman i thin koman is our bogey coach team note stonon.

themightybun

Yeah man, let’s roast the cunts!

ForeignGooner

By the time they face us, they will have played two energy-sapping semi-finals against Liverpool, an FA cup replay plus two league games. I think we have a good chance if we turn up.

Anonymarse

Pretty big if that

Cdm995

I like this more than my comment. We’ll go with this one.

wash_dc_gunner

Bring it! COYG!

Mr. G

We won’t win. Can barely scrape a win against Southampton at home, and the less said about our recent away trips to St. Mary’s the better. Fuck knows why, but they’re a bogey team.

Sheffield Goon

Ignoring the first 3 words, this is true. I’m worried about it.

bdotm

About time we got one over them in a cup tie. Bogey team in the cups for too long. Their cup is full this time around, let’s treat it with the respect it deserves and make sure we advance. I sure wrote cup one time too many

Its on the Saturday at 5:30pm

occam's hatchet

Southampton play the 2nd leg of their League Cup semifinal at Anfield three days prior. Time to exorcise some demons, I say.

By the way, we play Saturday the 28th at 5:30, blogs.

Goontang

With the midweek tuesday game against Watford and chelsea the following Saturday, will probably be more rotation, hopefully we will see starts for mertersacker and welbeck.

Feels awfully familiar.
Turn of the year

Oh?
No matter.
We shall prevail.

The date and time were fixed several days ago. It’s the 5:30p kick-off on Saturday January 28. It can’t be earlier than the Saturday, because Southampton play the second leg of their Mickey Mouse Cup semi-final on the previous Wednesday, and it can’t be later because we play on the following Tuesday. And, since BT Sports chose this match for telecast, they get to set the start-time – and they chose 5:30p.

22 Men, One cup.

Seems like we are drawn with them in cups as frequently as we get Bayern in Europe.

Arsenalnut

I still have Rory Delap nightmares from the mid 2000s. 1-5 would help me sleep better.

eternalflamini

Yay Southampton! Easy one, it’s not like they history of knocking us out of cups or any… oh hang on.

Mike

4-0 loss written all over this.

For southampton

Jack

I don’t think anyone even considered the fact that we might have been playing Norwich in the next round. After the draw all I heard people say was ‘oh no we’ve got Southampton in the 4th round!’

When Skies Are Grey

Not going to be an easy game at all, but a good chance to give starts to Welbz, Perez and Holding. Don’t want to take the game lightly, but now we have better squad depth we can make necessary changes and keep a strong starting line up.

Alex the cat Manninger

I’m going to be in London next weekend. How are the chances that tickets for the Southampton game will go in general sale?
