Iwobi injury fears allayed + early Liverpool team news

The knock sustained by Alex Iwobi to his ankle won’t keep him from partaking in training this week, according to ESPN and the Evening Standard.

The Nigeria international raised fears of a spell on the sidelines when he posted a picture of his bandaged ankle but it appears the damage by Sutton United’s Jamie Collins isn’t as bad as feared.

The player returned to Snapchat to make clear he’s ok.

Mohamed Elneny, who was substituted with an ankle problem on Monday, is to be assessed today.

Arsenal have 11 days before they face Liverpool at Anfield giving time for the likes of Aaron Ramsey and Laurent Koscielny to also regain fitness. The Welshman has been out with a hamstring problem since the defeat to Watford while the Frenchman sat out Tuesday’s game having tweaked his hamstring in the trip to Bayern Munich.

Most of Arsenal’s first team squad are off for two days with Mesut Ozil, Olivier Giroud and Petr Cech handed extended breaks. ESPN claim their source close to the club has dismissed suggestions that Ozil is suffering from back spasms, as claimed by The Times.

Santi Cazorla is the only long-term absentee at the moment.

Commentators brushed it off as nothing. That is how a legs get broken. Straight red all the way.

A Different George

Worse yet, the guy who did it is Phil Collins’ son. I read it in the Mail.

Anonymarse

Should send him off just for that

Jorin

Unbelievable how that tackle went by unpunished. If that was Xhaka, it’d have been a red?

These referees are a disgrace to the federation!

DB10s

Every media outlet will be calling for him to be banished to the moon for sure.

CB

Let’s hope Kos makes it. It made a huge difference him going off at Bayern.

Gooneron

while Cazorla’s absence has been the huge difference for us this season.

gordy

Does Santi still exit? There were quite a few of us who wrote when it was obvious his injury was serious that our chances of winning the league went with him. As far as Iwobi is concerned I think he’s been played too much and needs to have a break in which he has a go at using his left foot and practices shooting.

Jackthelad

My fear was that Iwobi would be fit for Liverpool and Bayern

MartyParty

there’s no rush on ramsey….

Ozil's left foot

Is scapegoating martysparty trick?

MartyParty

list of players who arent good enough, ramsey, walcott, gabriel, iwobi, francis coquelin, all in and around the first team. not good enough, ox needs to improve as well, face it, were nothing more than a team that scraps for top four and its because the players are not good enough.

MartyParty

Just to be clear, I would deep throat a cactus and rinse out me mouth with vinegar to have wilshire in the team for 38 league games a season instead of ramsey.

The Loon Ranger

Call me old fashioned but i blame the parents

AGunner

Cus Wilshere done more for us than Ramsey has right?

Talent is one thing, but producing the goods is another.

MartyParty

Players like Ramsey are the reason where in the state we are, Consistently not good enough, Hide when needed the most, End product is all over the place, a complete lack of mostly, Not good enough for Arsenal

AGunner

Ramsey? Hiding? Really?

Tim

I dont really agree with your thought, but at least it was funny

Deonord

No Rush for Iwobi aswell. Can’t believe he was given so many chances. He didn’t perform well most of the time… I would rather see Lucas in starting XI than him.

Arsene Ginger

@MartyParty you are dishonest to your federation. I will leave it at that.

MartyParty

Touché…

well played

chippy's chip

Yeah. Save the welsh jesus for the final so he can perform another miracle.

Mississippi Gunner

What is Santi’s injury? It’s taking a vaguely long ass time. So frustrating

Paul

Achilles.
I miss Santi.:-(

Mpls

Achilles. He had to go for a surgery, then it aggravated again. Did he have to go for a second? I can’t recall.

Arsepedant

Yes, he had to have a second surgery. The recovery from that one is not going as well as hoped, hence his not being able to return this season.

Callum

What’s with all the Ramsey hate?

Mpls

It’s his turn.

Bryanclayden

This is the time to give Iwobi a rest anyway I believe, Unleash Welbz and Lucas from the start against Liverpool

Sabrina

What a game it will be at Anfield. Ramsey over Wilshire doesn’t matter. They’ve both produced in different ways this season. We just need a good mindset and a damn win.

Stillmatic

Id’s like to see Sanchez back on the left and Perez in the centre.

Mpls

I just want to see them both on the field, I’m not bothered which spots.

But Alexis will more naturally track back and cover the whole pitch just because he can’t help it.

loose_cannon

Seems like saying you want Perez to start is the automatic way to get likes around here. A good player but I’m getting flavour of the month vibes. Saying that, I would like to see Perez get a start against Liverpool but at CF, Sanchez has struggled there a bit lately. A couple of fairly flukey goals won’t disguise that. Welbeck should get a run too, Walcott and Iwobi are due rests anyway, especially Iwobi. Played a lot of games for someone his age, he should be proud of that too.

hahahaha

I know this is very optimistic or probably delusional, but we still stand an awfully glimmer chance in the league. Its all about character from here on. If we loose or even draw at Anfield then it is surely over, even for the most optimistic of fans.

chippy's chip

Hahaha and maybe chavski drop enough points hahaha

Ozilicious !

Would be nice to see Perez, Welbeck and a semi rested Sanchez (unless he has signed up for an ultra marathon or two in his 12 days off) start up top against Liverpool.
Some serious quantities of rapidness there! And they are suspect at the back (think us minus the Kos)

Ozilicious !

Think people want to see Perez as he’s just had his head down, played well when he’s been given a chance (few and far between) and it’s not like we are on fire at the moment and banging in goals for fun.

Mpls

That, and goals just happen when the guy is on the pitch. And he’s usually involved in them.

Chinaman

Lucas or Welbeck or maybe both to start in the wide areas with Sanchez up top
