According to Sky Sports, Arsenal have turned down West Bromwich Albion’s £10 million offer for England international Kieran Gibbs.
The 27-year-old looks certain to leave the Emirates this summer, however, the Gunners are holding out for a fee in the region of £15 million.
Gibbs is in his 11th season at Arsenal and has made 137 appearances in the Premier League and 10 for his country. He’s a steady operator with considerable experience but appears to be surplus to requirements since the arrival of Sead Kolasinac from Schalke.
The defender is currently training at London Colney while the first team tour China. Tony Pulis, who is known to be on the lookout for a left-back, is also in the Far East where West Bromwich Albion are taking part in the Premier League Trophy.
Wouldn’t be surprised at all if this goes through. A few more beans in the jar and done deal, good for all.
So we should if Walker is going for £50m…He was an England international and a very reliable left back and infact kept Monreal on the bench in his 1st season..
I like Gibbs and infact preferred him to Monreal for a while..but injuries and loss of confidence played their part… but he needs a new challenge
He is one that would leave with our love..
Would rather he’s sold for 15m to Newcastle
When Walker’s sale was announced, Gary Lineker said something like “imagine how much he would be worth if he could cross the ball.” As much as I like Gibbs, I have always felt something similar about him.
Though in the final year of his contract, £10m seems ‘light.’ Kieran is decent and should command at least £15m. All the best, mate!
I agree, but market value is a funny thing and depreciates greatly when the buying club know we’re looking to sell. Comparisons with Walker don’t really work as Sp*rs, I assume, were pretty reluctant to sell and he was a prominent member of their first team. So while ability wise, they’re probably pretty similar, there’s a vast chasm in market price.
I love the Arsenal and hate the spuds as much as anybody here, but Gibbs is not on walker’s level at all
Seems a fair price to me. For an average player like him who is now third choice left back £10 million is more than reasonable. Need to get these sort of players off to books as soon as possible to reinvest in quality first team players.
He’s one of the best 2nd choice LBs in the country, if not the best. Has to be worth more than 10m
Are you serious?
I’m sure he is
Me too…just not sure at which sport..
You should try going 1 v 1 against Gibbs on the pitch if you’re really unsure. This sort of ‘oh since he’s worse than the other 0.1% talented of the world I can shit on him attitude’ is the worst thing about every sport. The dude has made the grade in the most competitive sport, played for his country on the highest level, and we’re being offered 10 million for his services. By any sense of perspective, that is something to be proud of. In addition, he has always remained absolutely professional towards his contract, and completely honest and reliable… Read more »
I agree for the most part. the one deficiency in his game is a lack of ability to cross the ball with any sort of consistency. I think on the defensive side he’s slightly above average I just don’t see him pushing into the starting lineup except for cup games and the early Europa league matches. I do think some of his inconsistencies stem from a lack of confidence. Really hoped he would turn into another Cole. Still 10 million seems a bit low for a player who could slot into many premier league lineups. All thre best if he… Read more »
I think his injury history factors in. He’s got the talent and the pace. But he looks too much like Ox when the refs are dishing out red cards.
I’ll miss him. Grown up with Arsenal, more than decent player.
Like Szcz, one of us.
So Kyle Walker is worth five Kieran Gibbs? Utterly ridiculous.
That’s just City though … No way we would ever pay that, or most other clubs for that matter
The just spent the same on Mendy
He isn’t but Kyle Walker isn’t worth 50m. Spurs didn’t want to sell Kyle Walker and City got ripped off.
Kyle Walker, the new Micah Richards.
Yep he’ll probably end up on the bench
I think Pochettino really preferred Trippier and had no use at all for Walker.
Another player who has potential but have an injury problem, he still has hope though, i just hope he doesn’t end up like Wilshere
Gibbs for me will aways be remembered as a decent arsenal guy. My issue with him is that he never seemed to have the drive or fight on or off the pitch to get to the next level. Seemed to be content sat on the bench for far too long. Good luck to him though.
Remember that sliding tackle against Newcastle a few years back? That was my best Gibbs moment, paired with his goal against Anderlecht.
He certainly is worth more than £10 million. He is still a fine player and frankly rate him higher then Walker. However I wouldn’t wish him to join a club managed by Pulis. He can do much better than that
Rate him higher than Walker? In which sport?
It makes me a bit sad. Why are our players always under valued? This is an established left back we are talking about; Gibbs.
So Man City have spent over £100 million on two full backs alone. Add to this the GK and Midfielder they’ve bought another £50 million
How the hell are they within financial fair play restrictions?
Yup and I can’t see Monaco parting with more players now
What are the limits of financial fair play? Also have City sold anyone?
They haven’t sold anyone.
FFP has become a joke I don’t think they even enforce it.
should have bitten their hands off,
if they think 10m for Ches is acceptable then I fail to see why they turned this down
Hes worth more than that and can do better than playing for a Pulis team. Personally wouldn’t sell him
Watching the Arsenal v Chelsea game we have no chance whatsoever of breaking into the top four.
Not with this team or that manager.
They look very very poor…
You mean with a back three of maintlandniles, per and monreal or maintlandniles, elneny and koscielny.
I suppose there may be other interested parties for Gibbs hence why we are so recalcitrant on 10m.
We seem to be talking big on Jack as well with the purported 20m interest from Swansea. Frankly I would sell him for 10-12m and that would be good profit as is.
A number of players have come through academy.
Gibbs and Jack and now Bellerin and Iwobi.
Its difficult to break through particularly in more recent seasons.
Reiss Nelson looks promising. Bramall probably has the clearest path at the moment into first team if he should develop over next season.
Have always rated Gibbs, it hasn’t quite worked out the way we all hoped it would for the ‘core five’ that signed deals those years ago: Wilshere, Ramsey, Chamberlain, Gibbs and Jenkinson And seems likely that atleast three will leave the club this summer. Ramsey, is the only player of the group whose position we are very certain of, an important member of the squad. Chamberlain, I think it’s fair to say we all want him to sign a new deal, though it’s still very much anyone’s guess. Jack, Kieron and Carl, highly likely that we will see them at… Read more »
Gibbs £15m. Walker £53m. Ok
Come on, let’s be honest. Gibbs is not Arsenal quality and never has been. He is one of those ‘british core’ players who have shown they are not good enough. The sooner we get rid the better. Same goes for Walcott.
