Ramsey eyeing United scalp to cap off good week

Aaron Ramsey says Arsenal will face Manchester United in buoyant mood on Saturday after two wins in four days consolidated their position in the top four.

The Gunners followed up Sunday’s last-gasp win at Burnley with a 5-0 hammering of newly-promoted Huddersfield Town at the Emirates; their 15th consecutive win at home, stretching back to April.

Alexandre Lacazette opened the scoring early on, before Mesut Ozil came to the fore assisting Olivier Giroud and Alexis before netting himself. Giroud, a half time substitute, helped himself to a brace in the closing stages.

Speaking after the match, Ramsey reserved praise for the German and the pressure applied by the visitors.

“He [Ozil] was out of the Burnley game, so his batteries were recharged. He put in a fantastic performance tonight.

“Full credit to Huddersfield because they made it difficult for us to break them down, but it was nice to go into half-time with the 1-0 lead. We upped the tempo in the second half, created many opportunities and we were clinical.

“We came away from a very tough game against Burnley on Sunday, so I think that may have played a part in us being a bit sloppy in the first half but we overcome it. We got in at half-time with the lead and we took full advantage of that.”

He added: “We wanted to take advantage of being at home and we did that again. It was another three points and hopefully we can go into the game at the weekend full of confidence, and hopefully it will be a very good week for us.”

A win against second-place United on Saturday evening would take the Gunners to within a point of Jose Mourinho’s side.

More importantly, it would probably also make the Portuguese git a bit sad, so that’s why we should try particularly hard not to play like a bag of dicks when they park the bus.

Cmon boys! let’s make it 4 wins from 4 including 2 massive wins. COYG.

Ramsey has been unbelievable since he came back from injury last season. I’m happy he’s not trying to force himself to score more instead he’s focusing on doing the right thing at the right time i.e assist when he has to, defend when he has to and of course score when he has to. He is almost close to that 13/14 form and I’m glad people are finally not judging him by goals alone. Now can we beat manure on sat?? Of course we can, but I wouldn’t be surprised if we drew. Good thing our back 3 of Kos… Read more »

Currently delivering on every level has 3 goals and 5 assists, has won 2 pens, runs around the pitch like a machine…deserves so much more praise. Hopefully he doesnt get injured again?.

DialSquareGoon

For the Welsh Jesus came back to us, reborn from injury, and has blessed the Arsenal with positional discipline and assists, we rejoice.

gooner

Totally agree.

A good indicator for how good Ramsey is playing this year: His tackles per game, interceptions per game, passing accuracy and key passes per game are all better than his midfield partner Xhaka. Which sort of means that as far as statistics are concerned he is playing better than him both offensively and defensively.

Beating Utd would be a real statement of intent. City can’t continue at this rate; we need to be ready to pounce on any dodgy spell they might have. COYG, send Mourinho back empty handed. We can!

I’m sure that I read that Huddersfield was our 12th win in this current run, not 15…
I’m not being pedantic, just saying…

Clock-End Mike

That’s right actually. It’s our 12th win at home in succession in the PL; 14th game unbeaten; we were last beaten at the Emirates in the PL by Watford on 31st Jan this year. Before that our previous defeat at home was on the first day of last season, 3-4 by Liverpool on 14 Aug 2016. Not a bad record.

On the other hand, our unbeaten run at the Emirates _in all competitions_ is just 2, following the 0-0 draw against Red Star at the beginning of this month.

Clock-End Mike

I mean, our run of *wins* in all compettions is just 2…

Nelson

Hardly the same team though ?

Clock-End Mike

Agreed. That’s why we’re talking our run in the PL (but some people forget that).

PeteyB

Well fingers crossed for Saturday, the last 2 games should have been good practice as well need to find a way round Maureen’s Manchester Mega Bus at the weekend.

Dominic Ighekpe

It’s simple we’ll shift the goal post

ronaldo

ramsey ALWAYS plays well, ozil well he is just putting himself in the shop window, a good result for the boys, but it was only Huddersfield it was only natural that we beat them, lets see how we get on against one of the big boys

Why+Not

I love how Ramsey and Alexis bicker all the time. Alexis gets so annoyed when he doesnt get passed to or rambo fluffs an attack. However recently performance show that rambos winning this fight at the moment.

Except for the almost saved penalty and a relatively simple goal, alexis has been basically shite. Ramsey has been important In our recent form and alexis simply has been a passenger.
