Arsene Wenger has provided the latest team news update as Arsenal prepare to face Bournemouth in the Premier League on Sunday.
With just two wins from the last eight in the league, it’s crucial the Gunners get back to winning ways, especially as Liverpool will unquestionably fail to beat Man City directly after our game, so there’s a chance to close the points gap there.
Injuries have been mounting up in recent weeks, and while some remain absent, there’s some good news with Jack Wilshere’s injury not as bad as first thought and the return of Aaron Ramsey.
“Jack was injured on Wednesday,” he said, “but we had good news. He’s walking properly. He’s not out yet of the game on Sunday, so that’s a positive.
“We’ll have Ramsey back in the squad, and there’s an uncertainty about Ozil, he’ll have a test tomorrow, that’s a bit 50/50.
“Ozil has a swollen knee, a recurrence of what he had two to three weeks ago. That’s why he wasn’t involved on Tuesday
“All the others are out for Bournemouth.”
Asked about his defenders, he continued, “Koscielny next week, Kolasinac next – but he has a little, little chance to be available for Sunday – Monreal next week.”
Olivier Giroud remains two weeks away from a first team return.
Sounds like lots coming back soon but not getting my hopes up until they are on the pitch.
Let’s hope we can get a run going as 2 wins in 8, especially against the opposition we’ve played, isn’t great.
Hopefully the clean bill of health that seems to be approaching us helps things. I know our form has partially suffered due to the injuries.
This, however, is why teams like Citeh and Chelski have depth. Injuries don’t quite hurt so badly and do not force you to play a young DM at LB for example (although he’s played pretty swimmingly there to his credit). I hate to sound like *that guy*, but it comes back to signings to a degree.
Do Chavski really have much depth to their squad?
They don’t have the numbers we have.
In fact we have a very big first squad.
BUT they tend to carry more experienced players who are finished articles where we tend to rely on mecurial talents or young players needing adaptation into squad.
This is the difference.
‘When Ramsey gets back from injury he will be like a new signing. Also Wilshere has only been injured 3 days but when he comes back he will be like a new signing.’
Every January we hear of players coming back from injury and people saying he is like ‘New signing “ this is ridiculous excuse for not signing anyone of substance/quality. I suppose you support the idea the sale of Sanchez because we have our so called ‘new signing’ back!
Sometimes the LANS joke hits the spot – it seem´s not this time. Hope that your timing is better in different affairs
TBF, Jack’s mom probably hit a bump driving him to school and he accidentally hit the post button. He didn’t have a chance to revise his joke.
hope ozil goes this month, he gets more injured than jack and ramsey, ( if he is injured )
Do you just come here to troll?
You’re entitled to your opinion but I think most arsenal fans would love to see him stay given Alexis is off. I would also like to see him extend his deal but I know that isn’t likely
I think we have a better chance with Ozil extending than Alexis.
It is still a very slim chance but you feel he may prefer Arsenal because we employ a system closer to his strengths.
Wenger needs to throw him a carrot beyond just money. What price someone like fellow German Draxler coming in to play left of Ozil?
It could be a massive incentive.
I’d actually sell ozil as well rather than loose him for nothing. As good as he is I don’t agree with having players who don’t want to play for the club. Sel, reinvest the money and move on. Nobody is bigger than the club!
Once Ramsey and Wilshere are both back will be interesting to see how Wenger utilizes the three of them. If we sell Sanchez does that push Wilshere or Ramsey wide possibly so both can be on the pitch or does Wenger go with Welbeck or Iwobi as he has done up until now when Ozil and/or Sanchez are out.
Play Ramsey out wide instead of Alex iwobi)- much more of a goal threat. Wellbeck brings some good things to team , work rate tackling etch, plus a aerial prescence at either end while gioroud injured.
If we are relying on internal solutions to cover for one fo two main creative forces in the team departing in Alexis…we are fucked.
Consider we do not replace even when we are slipping away from top 4. That is a very silly approach to take.
I don’t think Wenger will not replace left side. He has already made noise about it.
But to what level of quality he brings in is the key issue.
So we will lack again BOTH our main creative forces.
This team has been lacking in sufficient creative/technical players. Even with Ozil and Alexis, we need one more top end operator.
Aside from that midfield continues to plague us as issues are swept under the carpet, Santi not replaced for 3 seaons + now. Instead we sell our better back up and retain the Mediocre Elneny.
Ramsey should be playing higher up in Ozil’s position. IMO Wenger has it wrong way round with Iwobi. the young lad can see things better playing deeper and many of his key passing comes from a deeper position. He also has the strength and technical skills to operate in deep midfield plus he turns efficiently (like Jack to face his opponents quickly. Neither Ramsey nor Granit can turn. Ramsey OTOH has always had great instincts attacking into the box. Why not play him higher? When he anchored deep midfield with Flamini, he held well for a period when we beat… Read more »
It would really be good to get Koscielny and Monreal back. We drew with Chelsea with four of our first-choice back five out (including Kolasinac), without Ozil or Ramsey, without Giroud on the bench. I would like to see how we do with a full squad against them, at home. Then we need to hope for a Bristol City miracle.
