Report: Leeds to rescue Martinez from Getafe?

Emi Martinez could swap Getafe for Leeds United before the transfer window shuts with Arsenal reportedly frustrated at his lack of game time in Spain and the Championship outfit looking for a new keeper for the remainder of the season.

Martinez moved to La Liga on a season-long loan deal in August to gain further first team experience, however, he’s only featured four times at theColiseum Alfonso Pérez.

Two appearances in La Liga this month, a clean sheet victory over Malaga and a draw with Athletic Bilbao, were his first minutes since a Copa del Rey exit over two legs to Alaves in November and December.

LeedsLive claim that Martinez is an option for Leeds who are looking for a replacement for Sunderland-bound Andy Lonergan. Martinez has spent time in England’s lower leagues having already been loaned to Oxford United, Sheffield Wednesday, Rotherham United and Wolves.

There’s no doubt that Arsene Wenger rates Martinez and sees him as a potential long-term option when David Ospina and Petr Cech move on. However, his development really relies on proving he can hack the pressure of week in, week out matches.

The decision to get rid of Woj looks even worse now.

Da Boss

Not sure what this story has to do with Woj…?

Siz C

“…sees him as a potential long-term option when David Ospina and Petr Cech move on.”

Wasn’t that the plan with Woj a few years ago.

Maxin In The Shade

I get that once a player goes out on loan we can’t control how much they play, but it seems we send out many players on loan to gain ‘playing time’ to clubs that never play them. What’s the point?

Capn Crunch

Exactly! I can’t remember the last time an arsenal youth player really excelled while out on loan and became a regular fixture in a teams starting 11. They all seem to come back early because of injury, lack of playing time or disciplinary issues?

Gooner McGoonFace

Vela was the last player that I can remember to excite while on loan, in Spain. He famously abused Sergio Ramos for 90 minutes once vs Real Madrid.

Who to, who to, Who to be

AMN? very good while on loan at Ipswich and came back into the first team

Plevs

Jon Toral was Birmingham’s player of the season on loan a couple of seasons back.. Scored some cracking goals. Could not have done much better and yet returned to Arsenal and wasn’t given a chance and was then sold.. so even though he did extremely well it was still pointless

Gonzo gunner

Teams sign loan players to pad out their squad, not to do whatever we want them to do.

sambo

Not true at all, Lower teams loan players because they cant afford them but want that special quality for a season, that means a young prospect. Nothing to do with padding out squads in every instance.

ronaldo

ha, and then they wont play him either

Billy Bob

I don’t like Leeds but if going there helps his progression then go for it

Runcorn Gooner

One thing if the player doesn’t play well but if they are not given a chance it’s a pointless exercise.

Chessers was a local legend on his loan at Brentford and it speeded up his career. Emilio appears to be wasted.

jackbut

personally, i rate the kid Martinez very high. he deserve playing time wherever, just get him between the post.

karl

Should get plenty of practice at shot stopping with Leeds

Red-Wing

Let’s get over this Szczesny debate once and for all. We didn’t “get rid of him” nor did he want to leave, but since we have Cech as our no.1 we were ready to listen to offers AND Szczesny also wanted to take the chance to join Juventus.

The desire/readiness to make that transfer happen was from both sides. It’s not that we forced Szczesny out of the club by any means.

Having said that, I would love to have him as our first choice GK after Cech, but things just don’t work out sometimes for whatever reason.

Rhaatid

Interesting thing though is when both Szczesny and Ospina were in the squad at the same time Ospina performed better than him even leading to him taking the bench for the second half of the season. So honestly i think we hyped him up a bit too much when in fact his performances did not credit it.

Lord Bendnter

Who the heck finds our players these clubs to out on loan to?
Occasionally I understand, but I mean it’s like every other loan is a failure. And it’s always about the player not getting game time. I mean what the heck, something needs to change

Reality Cech

Try again mate

Gonzo gunner

Good move potentially.

Arse-Head

Celtic apparently interested aswell

Vonnie

I’d rather have Emi at Arsenal to be honest. That fuck up by Cech is even worse than the goal he gifted Cesc Fabregas. Surely it’s time he was benched.
