Report: Debuchy close to Saint Etienne move

According to reports in France, Mathieu Debuchy will be allowed to join Saint Etienne for free today despite being under contract at the Emirates until the summer of 2019.

The right-back is desperate to quit Arsenal in search of regular game time while the Gunners are eager to move the Frenchman off their wage bill.

Nice were interested in signing Debuchy in the summer only to drop their interest at the last minute, while the likes of Brighton and West Bromwich Albion have also been linked.

“I want to leave, to find a new challenge in January,” said Debuchy in December.

“The fact I’m playing well [in the Europa League] will give me opportunities.

“We’ll see if there are good opportunities in the transfer window. I’m open.”

Whatever!

Though we gonna save his wage expense, why sending him for free..

Moscool

Yes, l’Equipe said the same thing last night. Also pointed that he only had 6 months left on his contract (not sure about that) and that Arsenal would let him go by cancelling his contract (so that ASSE could afford his wages).

Debuchy has (at this moment) a better right back than Bellerin.

Good luck Mathieu.

The problem with Bellerin is that 1) He can’t cross 2) He doesn’t run at the opposition 3) It’s as if he’s on his own down the right. Noone to combine with. 4)He ALWAYS cuts infield (mostly due to reasons 2&3) to the point it’s maddening 5) Confidence or lack of it. 6) Lack of pressure for his place. I mean, who is are backup RB? AMN?- No he’s our backup leftback who’s really a backup CM. Chambers?- Remember Jefferson Montero? I guess it’s Reiss Nelson then. lol 7) His hair. It all started when he returned from injury with… Read more »

Crash Fistfight

Having seen him in the flesh the other week, I can confirm the stupid long hair is part of his new “just walked off of a catwalk” douchey hipster new look.

‘hopefully’ Wenger is finally getting rid of the dross for the new manager next season.

Had no issues with Debuchy, for his sake, hope this is true

Rob Fuller

Hope he gets his move and reinvigorates his career, such a shame his Arsenal career has pretty much been a disaster!

Lonely Lonliness

Alright, I see. Since we are Flush in Full Backs, not a bad move

For free? Lol this is what it’s come to. We’re selling so dirt cheap these days that clubs are now chancing their luck. We have to at least get something for him. St Etienne can’t afford couple million even? What is going on?

EZD

I don’t like how all of our squad depth is disappearing all of a sudden (assuming the deals go through). Especially mid-season. Coq, Debuchy, Giroud, Walcott all gone. Our defence will now be thinner, not stronger. And if Laca and Auba both start games, Welbeck will be our main striker on the bench. Surely we’re not so poor that we have to do all this now, just to pay for Aubameyang? Why can’t we wait for the summer when we will (hopefully) be doing more of a rebuild job? Also, “free” doesn’t sound like the best price for a French… Read more »

a story that was dug out of the archives..i mean the text.

This is like that old football manager cheat on the psp where you offer the player to clubs for free but you actually get 60m. Right?

Ozymandias

Good riddance!

A complete coward of a player who cried to the media when he couldn’t regain his 1st team spot from a then teenage Hector Bellerin. And allegally he’s meant to be one of our ‘Hard’ players! Pah.

Unfortunate with injuries with an unfortunate mentality i say.
