Ligue 1 side Angers have signed Jeff “The Jeff” Reine-Adelaide on loan for the rest of this season.
The highly-rated youngster has had some real injury struggles this season, and the expected breakthrough into the first team hasn’t happened. While other young talents like Reiss Nelson, Joe Willock and Ainsley Maitland-Niles have had playing time in the Europa League and beyond, the 20-year-old has hit something of a wall in terms of his development.
A spell on loan to play some regular football at a competitive level is probably just what he needs, and with Angers hovering just above the relegation zone, there’ll be some pressure on him to perform. He’ll wear the number 22 shirt at his new club.
He’s player highly rated by Arsene Wenger who said of him in 2016, “He has it all in his locker – the strength, the physical power, the technical level.
“He has to add efficiency to his game – that will come with games as well – but he will have an opportunity to show that I am right about him.”
Sadly that hasn’t quite happened so let’s hope he can make his mark, albeit temporarily, back in his home country.
Another injury crock? Please sign a hard as midfielder before the window closes!! Granit ain’t so hard unfortunately!!!
Good move assuming they actually play him. He definitely needs game time.
I don’t want anybody messing with my locker while I’m gone!!
Good luck, Jeff, I really hope you show what you can do and convince Arsene! Stay healthy!
Good luck Jeff. Will be one to keep an eye on. Hopefully he’ll put himself in contention for the first team for next season. We certainly need a powerful midfielder and he could become one.
Wenger told him to concentrate on his attacking play and not worry about the defensive part. “Don’t look back in angers” he said
Seems so long ago that Zelalem and the Jeff were the next Wilshere’s that were going to make a big impact on the first team in a year or two, now they are both almost forgotten it seems.
Difficult to feel any anger about this deal.
He’ll need to watch his discipline if he doesn’t want to spend time in Angers Management….
This move certainly “Angers” nobody as he somehow seems to have not progressed since a few years ago when he was hailed as the new Vieira.
Looking good at U23.
One to keep an eye on.
Good for him to get out on loan. I should think Reiss should go out to to benefit from some playing time and for the matter one of Chambers, Mavropanos or HOlding.
This mildly Angers me
would hope that this is the making of him and that he has no reason to look back in Angers….
Queens Park angers?? 🙂
Good call on that clip from the Jump Street film – Makes me laugh every time. Good luck to the Jeff
He’s been really unlucky with injuries, but I think he’s a talented and exciting young player so hope he stays fit and gets the playing time he needs. Good luck to him.
