The Ox promises to play it Daddy Cool.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain insists that his stellar rise from Southampton Academy prospect to Arsenal first teamer won’t see him follow in the cuntish footsteps of David Bentley.

Dismissing any suggestion that the praise he has received from Arsene Wenger, Arsenal fans and the media might go to his head, the young midfielder made clear that his Dad (ex-England winger Mark Chamberlain) keeps him grounded and won’t allow him to become a loathsome cretin capable of squandering his talent.

Speaking to the Arsenal website about the role his family have played in his development, Chamberlain reflected on his father’s influence.

“With him being by my side I can never get too big for my boots. He always keeps me rooted and highlights the things I need to do better.

“When I do have a good game he’ll have a quiet word and say ‘well done’, but that’s as far as it goes because he points out that I’ve now got to keep doing it.

“As a winger, when you have a good game and take people on then people expect the same every week. I’ve got to do what I can to apply that consistency, and that’s what he tells me.

“It’s the same with my mum – she was always encouraging me to do my schoolwork and focus on other things in life. I think I’ve got a well-grounded family network and that definitely helps me.”

Despite the calls from the media to promote Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain to the England first team set-up (desperate, as always, to over hype any youngster capable of kicking a ball), temporary manager Stuart Pearce has left the winger out of his squad to face Holland. The Ox will instead continue his development in the under-21s.

For those who can’t recall Bentley…good for you.

What, no more David Bentley stories? I got excited for a minute there.

Midfield Corporal

It’s sad that a you g modern day footballers feels the need to tell us he’s not going to become an arrogant shit, I never recall TA, Rocky, Michael Thomas etc feeling the need to, they were allowed to just get on with developing as young players. It shows what a monster the modern game has become.

Jay gooner

to be fair the amount TA drank would never be accepted at this stage there was just less coverage of private lives back then

Runcorn Gooner

Who was Perry Groves mentor?
Fosters?

Midfield Corporal

True, it’s more the young player demanding big contracts before they’ve actually achieved anything, or had one good year like Adebayor I was getting at. Imagine how the media would gave hyped Rocky if he’d played today, doesn’t help that you get an England cap after two good games mind.

Merlin's Panini

yep, there’s a phrase for that. “Billy Big Balls”.
unfortunately it appears to be a disease that has grown to epidemic proportions.

Midfield Corporal

I think Sven actually called Billy Big Balls up to the squad before realising he didn’t exist.

Goonarmy

Anyone seen the England squad?

Stuart Pearce includes Frazier Campbell having played under 3 games in 13 months, but overlooks Chambo? Slightly baffling choice yet pointless choice if you ask me.

Comedian

Ox not picked for friendly i thought that was a good thing

Goonarmy

Well he got picked for the U21s so..

Cygan's Right Foot

Or he’s spoken to Wenger who doesn’t want Chamberlain to play just like Ramsey is unlikely to play in the Gary Speed testamonial due to a slight injury and Wenger’s request to not have him selected

SmokingGunner

I like the look of the squad, its about time some of the useless older players where left out and the new lot given a chance.

gooner sami

great player already

Mr. Eboue Armann Yes

He’s a proper lad!

sJ

Maybe all the hyping up of youngsters is getting to me but I’m starting to love this guy. He’s got a good work rate, pace, strength, crossing ability (especially how he manages to nick out crosses from tight spaces at the byline with a defender jockeying him – where other players, e.g. Walcott, wouldn’t be able to), a quick change of direction, general trickery in his dribbling, and his through passes are pretty remarkable for his age because he seems to anticipate the movement ahead of him well…or maybe that’s just the greatness of RVP

John boy

Heh, great use of the word cutish there

Midfield Corporal

You do realise it’s cuntish don’t you JB. Cutish put a whole new slant on the story.

John boy

Ah yes cheers MC bad time for a typo

Nick

Everything you read about Ox is more encouraging. I think we’ll bring him along correctly and it’s also very helpful that his dad is an experienced ex-international who knows the game and will also help keep him grounded. The Ox just wants to be the best player he can be and knows that trying to rush that will only hurt.

So much promise and the thought of the Ox and Ryo running at defences in the future is truly inspiring.

mwatthe

oh he has shown some consistency in his games so far all right. keep going and steer clear of England as long as the racist cunt is there

El Blondo

I’m glad the Ox hasn’t been called up by ‘twatface’ Pearce…let’s keep him safe and wrapped in cotton wool rather than let him out around societies dredges like Cashley, Rooney et al…scum,.

Dannyboy

Sounds like the Ox is a grounded young man with a good influence coming from his dad. He is the 1 true exciting prospect we have at Arsenal and Stuart Pearce is right to leave him out for now. We all know he is showing promise to be a long standing England first team player so no rush. Afterall, despite how good he is now, his influence in the England squad won’t make any difference to are chances of winning the Euros. Let’s take are time, do things properly and develop him into becoming one of the best wingers in… Read more »

neutral

I think Ryo, Wilshere, and Frimpong are all exciting prospects as well.

Red Cannon

Not to mention Jack. Despite having an extremely good season last year, he’s hardly a world beater yet, and I’d still consider him to be a prospect.

Camilla

Let’s be completely thankful Pearce didn’t call him up. Mikey Owen should be a good example as to what happens when you overwork young players. Give the Ox time!

Kafata

On the topic of Pearce’s team selection… Amusing to see Downing was called up, with 0 goals, 0 assists and 1 arrest.

Master Bates

As a Theo Walcott fan(apologist) I love Stewart Downing ,He makes my job defending Walcott easier

Midfield Corporal

How long before he knocks in a tap in and we get the’ Ox in the Box’ headline. Then there be ‘Oxcellent’ after a great performance, ‘Oxtra time’ if he scores in extra time, and of course ‘suck my ox’ if he gets caught felating Jermaine Pennant like Ashley Cole did with a mobile phone on vibrate up his jacksy…allegedly.

Kafata

Imagine an assist from Mertesacker. Per-fect pass for the Ox in the Box!

Can someone figure out a way to get our Coq into this headline?

Midfield Corporal

Coq slips in the Ox per-fectly

TeeCee

Makes sense, I can guess how that went:
“Why can’t I do it boss? It’s a lot of money…”
“Yes, but you’ll make yourself look like a right twat with those mouse ears on.”
“Ah, yes, I hadn’t thought of that. Thanks boss.”

Naija Gunner

Gunners for life, I love this great club, THE ARSENAL. Spurs fear the name….

Naija Gunner

Always gunning for glory!!!
