Arsene Wenger says his young side have been left very disappointed by their 2-1 defeat at Old Trafford after Marouane Fellaini’s stoppage time header stole the points for the home side.
Paul Pogba’s first half strike was cancelled out by Henrikh Mkhitaryan’s low drive six minutes after the break.
The Gunners mix-and-match side looked good value for a point, debutant Dinos Mavropanos impressed at the back and Ainsley Maitland-Niles won the man of the match award, before late heartbreak.
On the performance…
It was a positive performance. Overall, it reflects a little bit our away season. We had chances, especially on counter-attacks today. We did not always do well with the opportunities we had. Overall, the team performance was positive for such a young team. It was very positive. They are of course very disappointed in the dressing room because they gave everything. In the last 20 minutes you could see that some players were not used to that kind of intensity and pace. We looked a bit more under threat. In the first 70 minutes, we didn’t look in danger at all.
On his team selection being a risk…
Of course, but it’s good to see them in such a strong atmosphere and who has the courage to play and who can win the challenges. We know their level but we discover what they do in a competition and that was interesting.
On Mavropanos and Maitland-Niles…
Both of them did very well. Overall, I must say, it’s difficult to find a bad performance in our team, but we had a bad result.
On being the presentation made to him by Sir Alex Ferguson…
It was very nice, it’s classy. I enjoyed it. I have come here for a long, long time. Next year someone else will sit on the bench and they will get a very hostile reaction, don’t you worry.
On being flanked by Mourinho and Sir Alex…
It’s a bit surprising as they were not what you would imagine. But it shows you that life goes on and sometimes gets better.
Mourinho remains a despicable mind-boggling cunt.
Now on to Madrid with a well rested squad. The seasons on the line boys, let’s put in a performance!
Mourinho has been so mealy mouthed in his faint praise of Wenger over the last ten days. I would rather he just shoved it up his arse and refrained from the pathetic attempt to veil his monstrous cuntitude, as if it’s not obvious to everybody what a complete and utter arsehole he is and will always be.
Ashley Young is a nasty, dirty bast*rd…
Totally agree Young can’t go into winning the ball without making a foul some nasty , how he wasn’t booked early in the game I don’t know
Your allowed to kick a player without getting booked but don’t grab or hold an oppenent
