Joel Campbell is on the brink of a move to Galatasaray, say Honduran outlet Diario Deportivo Diez.
The 25 year old is off to the World Cup in Russia with Costa Rica, and it’s suggested his move to the Turkish side could take place before the tournament begins.
Campbell has led a nomadic footballing lifestyle since signing for Arsenal way back in 2011. He’s had loan spells with Lorient in France, Real Betis (twice) and Villarreal in Spain, Olympiacos and Sporting Lisbon.
Despite some good moments with the Gunners, he never fully convinced Arsene Wenger and it seems that new boss Unai Emery is looking elsewhere as he prepares his squad for next season.
Campbell is likely to be one of a number of fringe players moved on this summer. Lucas Perez has been strongly linked with Lazio after a disappointing loan spell with hometown club Deportivo la Coruna, although perhaps the Spanish connection might work in his favour with Emery.
The likes of Carl Jenknison, Cohen Bramall, Chuba Akpom and Emi Martinez are likely to be allowed leave, while David Ospina’s future is also in doubt with the club in the market for a new goalkeeper this summer.
It’s shaping up to be a busy summer.

Cohen Bramall cost forty thousand pounds. We’d struggle to get 15 million for the lot.

Cohen Bramal got zero chance to prove himself at Arsenal. It is very tough for young kids at Arsenal whereas senior players lack cojones on the pitch all year long.
He did get one chance, and what we saw was that he couldn’t take it, not yet. It’s not a surprise when you lack the experience, yet he seemed a player in good physical condition–he can go on to a mid-table club and I’m sure he would still be thrilled at the opportunity.
Jenkinson and Martinez must be worth something surely? Add Campbell and either Perez or Welbeck to that and we should be getting a good return.
Selling Perez would be silly. Excellent player there.
Very good finisher, quick, good hold up play, and – unlike our boy Welbz, Lucas Perez CAN hit water when he falls out of a freaking boat.
The notion of keeping Welbz as a forward and letting Perez go is insanity.

Jenks is currently on a stupidly long contract with high wages and hasn’t even been able to get into a Birmingham side in the Championship. We’ll be lucky to recoup the £1m we spent to get him. It’s not pessimistic, it’s the fact, sadly. We had to buy off an established French-capped fullback in Debuchy, who was wanted by the likes of United, because no one else could afford his £70k wages. How the heck are we going to do that for Jenks who’s on the same wage, has 3 more years on his contract, is considerably worse with a worse injury history and wasn’t even good enough for Birmingham? Why sell Welbeck. He still does a good job for us.
I’m not knocking Welbeck but it feels like his time with us is coming to a close. We still have Perez on our books and I think he’d be an exciting third option to Lacazette and Aubameyang.

one of the most dissapointing things about arsenal during past years is what happened to players like campbell and perez. players like them struggled alot with loan moves or something else to break in to arsenal team. and it takes a lot of time and effort for them to break in and even then only after an injury crisis or so will they finally get a chance. and when they do they give everything and played relativrly well . but come next season all of them will be cast aside and wengers favourites like walcot will be given the starts… Read more »

Lucas and Campbell put in solid performances and completely bailed the team out on a number of occasions.
I would add Podolski to that lot. A fantastic player that Wenger actually never intended ro use.
It’s a travesty. Loved Poldi for years. We talk about Wenger not changing, but he actually changed a few bit. From a man who knew what he wanted and scouting for it, to a man that seemed to be winging it.
Poldi was limited but a goalscorer. But rather than play to his strengths, we shunted him to the wings.
What’s even worse is that all the justifications for not using him as a CF existed in Walcott and then some, yet Wenger persisted with Theo for a season as a striker but not Podolski.

It’s not madness–it gave Giroud the opportunity to bloom into the CF we never knew at that time he could be. It was clear that Giroud was benefitting from Podolski’s experience on and off the pitch, and that Giroud was a prospect that was still developing, rather than a complete product like Podolski. Maybe it’s admiration for a player who used his brains to pull himself into the footballing world. Good post, but compare how many starts/minutes both of them had and Perez is by FAR superior.

Jenkinson has a contract until 2020?
Can’t see him being keen to go anywhere in a hurry, or anyone keen to take him off our hands after a big injury and on big wages.
I’ve always rated him as a solid 2nd choice winger with a good eye for goal and work rate. Don’t really get why he’s always been loaned out – wasn’t he valued around £15m at one point?

last Sunday, on the BBC red button, just to see him play.
It was clear that he still knows how to create & score goals,

Also, I had totally forgotten about Cohen Bramall. Seems Arsene wasn’t quite so good at buying from the lower leagues in England as he was France.
I like Joel. I think he’s a good back up option and, although not a world beater, he is a hard worker and an asset to have, particularly when seeing out a game. He works his hole off, can create (remember that stunning champions league assist) and is a decent finisher too.
His contract runs out at the end of month, so there’s gonna be nothing in it for us… Too bad he never truely got a chance or was sold earlier.
I’d expect some of our peripheral players have a final chance in the world cup to up their value before making a decision. Meanwhile I’m not sure where the club is going. If you ask a neutral, we are no longer an exciting club. Hate to say this but the City project is much more exciting even if it means they are spending petro dollars. Personally I would keep Campbell and Perez and give them a season with a good amount of playing time to see what they can do. Both very good players who always impressed when they got a chance and gave 100% as well as having plenty of pace. Pace being something somewhat lacking in the team right now.
