Chuba Akpom’s time as an Arsenal player looks to be coming to an end with Belgian side Sint-Truiden apparently close to a permanent deal for the striker.
The 22-year-old spent six months on loan with the Jupiler League outfit scoring six goals in 16 appearances; a decent return for a player looking to make his mark after a long spell on the sidelines with injury.
Akpom has been training with the Arsenal first team in recent weeks but his path to the first team is blocked by established stars Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette.
While there are doubts about the futures of Danny Welbeck and Lucas Perez, Akpom has also fallen behind Eddie Nketiah in the attacking pecking order. In short, it looks like he’ll have to leave to secure regular football.
The Independent suggests the Gunners could secure a fee of around £2 million from Sint-Truiden who are fending off rival offers from other clubs in Belgium and France.
I hope you set the Belgian league alight.
One of the better headlines that. Niceo! good luck to him.2m sounds cheap tho.5m at least surely? Some weaknesses never change I guess.Or at least will take a while to change.
Good luck Chuba, hope you make a name for yourself there and potentially make a good career at one of the top leagues eventually.
£2m is the price if you’re selling to a mid-table Belgian side.. don’t confuse it with the price you get for selling to an English club..
I know that, and merely saying we probably should’ve waited for a better offer .5m should be his base value considering his age and his decent performance in the championship with Hull.
Okay with this deal either way.
What decent performances with Hull?
I think you’re overvaluing him, tbh.
Also consider that £2m is easily offset but a fairly chunky sell-on fee attached.
£2m for a 22 year old with a year left on his contract who has never played in the premier league or scored 10 senior goals in a season is decent value.
It also says they are fending off other offers, that could change any time and another club could be pushed a little higher.
Regardless with our contracts team I’d Imagine some form of sell on percentage in the deal.
10M€ minimum if he’s sold to an English club !
Wish him the absolute best and hope he flourishes wherever he goes!
Unrelated to this, I read that we had another closed doors match against Brentford which ended up 2-1 to the visitors. any update on that Blogs?
Lots of potential but never quite got there. Good we get something for him. Can’t believe that a Belgian side can afford much more.
2m sounds about right.
Though I wonder what santori will think given he thinks we’re going to get an average of 10m for Akpom, Jenks, Ospina, Asano, Campbell & Lucas…
I don’t know how much we will actually get but I do know that someone thinking we could get an average of 10m for those is priceless !!!
I’d same more like an average of 8m
Ospina and perez could go for >10m each
Campbell for 7-9m
Jenks 5m
Akpom 2m
Asano <1m
Idk what the actual average of that is but that is being semi optimistic about ospina and perez
I think you’re being ridiculous rather than semi optimistic with those figures if I’m honest. We won’t get close to 10m for either of Ospina or Perez and i’d be astonished if we got even 5m for Campbell.
It depends on the buying club, we had a 13m bid for perez last season and 12m for ospina as far as I can remember.
No, we didn’t. You remember wrong.
On ospina. Deportivo bid in excess of 12m for perez.
I sold him a mayo chicken in McDonalds once, my very minor claim to fame
Did you sneak some broccoli into it? If not, probably your fault he didn’t make it?
If he had become an Arsenal legend, you would be famous.
£2 million is a great price for a player who’ll be free to leave for nothing in a year, he’s an asset we have no use for, likely no room in the squad for, and who’ll likely cost a million quid in wages over the next yr and instead of playing football he’s more likely to be doing the gardening.
We’re in an extremely weak selling position, we should snap their arm off at £2mill and move on quickly.
Ramsey can leave for nothing in a year, 2 million would be an awful transfer fee for hi
Did he get a proper chance to prove himself, or was it he just didn’t have the quality to be offered a role in the first team?
You’d always read positive things about him.
Guess he’s another one of those ‘potential first team’ players never realised.
Either way, wish him all the best
It’s been evident for a couple of years he wasn’t going to make it with us. Best of luck to him. He’s still a talented player and can carve out a decent career for himself if he applies himself well.
