Some post game comments from Arsene Wenger after tonight’s 3-0 win over AC Milan, when speaking to Sky.
Further thoughts from his press conference to come later (or first thing tomorrow).
On the team
We put in a performance in with fantastic spirit and restored some pride after the first leg. Unfortunately we are out but we had the chances. Overall we keep our winning run going, which is important, but unfortunately we paid the price for a bad first game.
Overall we have given everything, after you can accept the result even if it is disappointing.
On the physical test
We were a bit short with no midfielders at all on the bench, we suffered a little bit when we got tired in the second half, as I hoped to keep the ball better and get them more fatigued.
We knew we had given a lot and had players not used to that level in midfield, like Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain. Some players had knocks, I knew it would be difficult.
Chamberlain was sick last night, so we were not sure if he could play, as he had flu. We checked him in the warm-up, but he was outstanding. Of course to last at that level for 90 minutes is a different game.
On defence
You need to score goals and not concede against a team like that. Our defenders were absolutely outstanding today and we have given everything, that is all you can do.
On van Persie’s chance
I felt he wanted to chip the keeper because he was down, but Abbiati got up very quickly and unfortunately we couldn’t score.
I hoped in the last 15 minutes we could create some dangerous situations in front of goal, unfortunately it didn’t happen, as we didn’t have enough drive anymore.
Proud to be a Gooner tonight.
Absolutely proud of the boys today. Nothing shot on effort I feel that the injuries killed the game for us. Hopefully we can get our guys back fit against soon so we can continue our winning run :c) COYG
Well said Sabrina!! but please don’t use the ‘coyg’ abbreviation, far too lilyshite.
not to big a fan of coyg either, it makes us sound like we’re fans of kkkenny’s Klanfield, liverpool supporters seem to put ynwa at the end of every sentence the write online, it kinda scares me, I’m just protecting you from slowing becoming one of them.
Agree 100% on that – I hate all that COYG shizzle. We’re Gooners and actually got an education unlike those inbred cunts up the road.
very very true..look at the bench that may have watching this game from the balcony of Emirates.. JW, Rambo, Arteta, Diaby, BFG, Yossi, Santos, Djorou. Le Coq, Pong. Every one of them can walk in to any other team and play. The balcony bench looks stronger then one that was there on last night.
Well if we’re to going to approach some one to buy they must be uncited to see such games. Class, Passion, love, morale.
I love Arsenal.
oh to be a gooner is an honour!!
#optimismforthewin
lets do it for the rest of the season
In Arsene we trust. I for one never lost faith even if he can be a stubborn old mile at times. Amazing game, proud proud proud to be a Goooooooooner.
Mule* even
so happy Wenger’s turning this team around (again=-). some more egg on the hacks faces, and now the spuds are on the run. welldone tonight lads.
Arsene must GO! What does he mean with ‘left with no midfielder?’ he forgotten that he loan out arshavin to zenit? And look at the bench. I knew the game was up when MC and Park was brought on. That’s as good as bringing on Andy Carroll to chase a game. NUTS! We lost because of the bench!
Go support fucking Barca, you twat.
and ousting wenger will suddenly improve the quality of our bench how?….
be happy your team put in a such a gutsy performance and kindly shut your fucking moaning please and thank you!
are you for real?
stop talking out of you angry backside, and appreciate our last 3 games for what they are.
if you can’t do that, then you probably should find another sport to watch.
Are you sure you’re not lost, mate? This isn’t a Chelsea blog.
Thats what I am talking about
Gooner till I die !!!
You did us proud tonight
We Love You Arsenal!!!
MJB… are you mary jay blige…in disguise? ( didnt mean to rhyme, you see i do it all the time)
Man I am devastated
Palace drew 1-1 with Coventry
Anyone that says anything negative about Robin van Persie can fuck right off and never come back. Ever.
Proud to be a Gooner… Played with passion and pride tonight!! Keep up the work ethic for the league and let’s hunt down those lillyshites!!
How often do we NOT score in the 2nd half at emirates???!!! Rarely!!!Running out of gas is all the fault of The deluded manager who never once had a decent bench for donkey yrs.
Even your mother doesn’t love you.
You have gone up 1 notch in my estimation, you are now at notch 1.
I have officially stopped clicking the ‘click here to see’ button… this isn’t legrove so I trust I dont wanna read wat y’all thumb down unless maybe fatgooner said it…. least he a real fan!
Cut the bullcrap, if anything we’ve been a 2nd half team all season long.
Felt sorry for TR7 though. He’s running out of years in the CL but he ran those milan guys off in the first half. His reaction told the whole story. Hope he gets an extre year or two. Proud of the whole team too and i know i’ll say it here again, the home fans too. What a club!
I really do hope he managed to buy himself a couple extra years with tonight’s performance. He’s been absolutely money every time he’s come on this season. Unlike several others I can think of. We need him in the squad.
TR7 is a revelation. He has been absolutely brilliant the last few matches for us, and never better than last night.
Good old Mozart, back to composing and conducting. The fella is a real asset.
Proud of the boys, we give it our all. At the end I and so many shaded a tear of pride and little sadness. Even after the game we stayed to sing we love The Arsenal we do.
We couldn’t ask of the boys any more, we are talking AC Milan here and we beat them 3/0, hold your head high all Gunners, Pride has been restored.
Kinda gutted that we din make it thru.. I’ve been feeling optimistic all day n after the first half I really thought it would happen!
Well done tho especially Tomas!
Hopefully we get 3rd place n keep rvp n buy some quality players in the summer
A lot of deluded nutty fans who enjoying cunting and twatting but blindly support without analyzing deeper. The tie is 180 mins. The score is 4-3. A lose is a lose. Why we lost? Seriously if we have scored and tie 4-4, we will still run out of gas in extra time! We are never gonna make it with a manager who make do with squad smaller than pea.
Shut up you pessimistic tit.
Sad sad sad little man, we came into this game with all the injuries we have and no one even giving us more than 1% chance and we came so close against AC Milan and beat them 3/0. Yes, we lost 3/4 after 180 mins. In the first leg we played the worst game in 20 years in Europe. Today was about restoring pride and to show the world that was a freak result in Milan, that was not The Arsenal we know and love, we are not 4/0 worse than AC Milan. We went out by the odd goal… Read more »
Well said CLF. There’s a time and place to be negative but today isn’t one of those occasions. Just ignore the troll. We were all so excited at half time it was so disappointing that we couldn’t get that fourth goal. Anyway it’s another win and clean sheet and fantastic performance!! So proud of the team, the manager and the fans. It would be nice if the fans can turn up just the same in the remaining home games. The away fans are fantastic as it is….and of course equally important that the team shows this sort of passion and… Read more »
You’re the twat that blindly criticise without analyzing deeper.
“We”? I don’t know who your “we” is mate. This is an Arsenal supporters forum. You clearly don’t support Arsenal in any meaning of that word.
AW did have ozyakup on the bench to bring on as a CM, even though he is really young, i feel having a proper CM on the pitch during those last 15 minutes would have been better than moving RVP behind Chamakh. Having a fresh set of legs in the center of the park probably would have resulted in getting the ball back quicker, Ozzy’s eye for a pass is damn good too.
@PJ. Said exactly the same in the comment section of the match proper report but got called a twonk and with some messages for my parents. Cant we be dignified and leave abuses out of this? Because your opinion is different and popular doesnt make it correct. Was happy when I saw Ozyakup lacing up too, as I would have preffered him to the predictably inefficient Chamack.
In my opinion he did look a bit nervous and probably would out of depth chasing a goal with 15 minutes left against Serie A leaders. I was curious to see what impact he would have made but I was even more curious why he had to return to the bench.
No offense to Chamakh but he lost it, shame really. I feel sorry for him but we need to part way with him and get someone that can impact the game when we need it.
Proud of their effort but we should not have been in this position in the first place. We were never going to get a fourth goal with Park and Chamakh coming on!
We ran out of steam, too bad that Chamakh and Young were completely ineffective off the bench, those two have to go this summer. Also we need midfielders, maybe a fit and on form Ramsey would have helped, also Arteta. Injury- the Arsenal story….
Great game, restored the pride.
Now let’s see us overtake spuds for 3rd
Why can’t I see the card? Is the image corrupt or is it me?I don’t acullaty have a father. Or a mother for that matter. I was hatched by a gypsy cuckoo, who f*cked off as soon as my pelt moulted. I still have my pelt in a box neath my bed, if you’re interested. The person who reared me (I never saw their face) used to put a bible in my mouth to stop me screaming.Would this card be suitable for them?
wonderful spirit. but am annoyed as ever at the board/wenger/kroenke/whoever makes decisions. chamakh and park offered little. i wonder what might have happened with if we still had the little russian
Its ussually this point in the season for the last 5-6 years that i can remember that we always go on the most shocking run of form.. however this year is different? we seem to be on a great run of form even with the injuries we’ve got. I hope this is a turning point for Arsenal. if we can get to the end of the season in 3rd or even 4th spot i will have great pride in that, because everyone already wrote us off at every chance this season.
Fucking Love This Club.
Fuck this place is full of morons that just want to read 100s of comments saying how great arsenal are. Any comment that says anything other than how great everything is gets called a tit. Great game tonight, such a shame they couldn’t quite do it, died a bit when the Ox came off. Not the end of the world int opinion, 4th is still more important if it means we keep Robin. Arsenal forever!
Tit.
What we can say, excep thanks to the team. I am proud to be a gooner and i will be a gooner 4 ever. I blieve we get better and better. At the same time i hope Wenger be quick in transfer window in summer and buy quality player for next year. I realy miss a trophy. I hope he can hear our cray and respond to that. DOES HE?????????
Arteta, Ramsey, Benayoun, Diaby, Wilshire – that’s a massive gaping hole in any squad’s midfield. The boys done superb tonight. Very good show. Take that hunger into the league run in and we’ll once again be smelling the unmistakeable whiff of shitty andrex woftimg from the Cunt Dome up the road.
We also have less Coq thrust.
To be fair, if you’ve seen the girls from the Northeast, you’ll understand why our Coq pulled up limp that weekend.
Our friend ‘Victor’ is not victorious despite the fact that we won 3-0. I understand you have a reason to be angry but at least don’t let your disability get the best of you. Enjoy the victory. We won.
Proud to be a gunner keep up the good work and we’ll get third and finish above the scum
Proud of their character and not simply mailing it in.
However, this showcased our lack of quality depth. We were spent in the second half and need some life to come off the bench
What if we have just lecoq and frimpong fit, it would have another story entirely but I am proud to be a gunner. This kind of performance in the remaining game this season, 3rd place is confirmed
You know what, the more I think about it the more pissed off I get. We had a MOUNTAIN to climb going into that game tonight, and the players done all they could and cannot be for one second faulted for their efforts. However, the job was made endlessly more difficult by the fact that: A) The officials were disgracefully bad. I mean, there was even decisions that went IN our favour that I couldn’t believe, like towards the end when Milan should have clearly won a corner. But unfortunately the decisions went much more in favour of Milan than… Read more »
Arsenal beat the Italian league leaders,Milan, 3-0. You know they were 1 goal away to make it 4-0. Well done! I was worried that when Venger made a statement that we have 5% chance to qualify. And at half time I thought either Venger is bad in MATH or dosen’t know his team. b.c we were only 2 goals away and the way things were going it was really possible. But come second half, I didn’t worry much about Venger’s Math skills and such, I just want to qualify. I still fill we qualified, dont you think? It is a… Read more »
By The Way- Where the fuck is Rosicky’s new contract?
Sign the guy up ffs. He is a split second ahead of anyone on the pitch with his passes and ability to beat that first player. I dont know where his burst of speed over the first 10 metres has come from lately but i love it.
Exactly, it’s not a coincident that he played the last 3 games and we did so well!
People have always been so quick to judge the guy, but playing once in a blue moon gives fans very little idea of your form at the time, and it is assumed that he must be sucking it up on the practice grounds or something. Good performances by Tomas lately, it will be interesting to see what happens with him this summer.
nothing interesting, we will sign him up and he will stay here. He’s a gooner as much as Van Persie is.
So much proud 2 be a GUNNER.Credit 2 the lads,especially our captain RVP10!
Always a gooner and if that soft cock ibrahmovich hadn’t dived in the first leg we woulda beat their arses always sucks cheating shits prosper
I am a bit concerned for our players to be honest. The footage post-match showed that they gave everything mentally and physically, with no reward (apart from pride restored). I know they gave it away at the San Siro but it’s still gotta be tough to swallow. The crowd and the team need to carry the same commitment into to next game and onward. This fucking season, huh. If you told me at the start we’d win 5-3 at Stamford bridge, beat Tottenscum 5-2, that Henry would come back and score match winning goals, and that we would also *almost*… Read more »
More reasons to cheer the team on come this monday!
Couldnt the MLS have waited to kickoff after this tie would have loved to see Henry to pop up from bench and score the winner.
Maybe next year in the finals.
And rosicky a 31 year old whose participation was in doubt and carrying a injury to drive up and down the pitch like that wow same for the ox.
I didn’t want to complain about the refereeing since we the team had put together such a brilliant performance and I didn’t want to take away from it. But since Arsene has come out and said it I will as well. It was absolutely ridiculous how many free kicks they were given for diving. You would think the ref would eventually realize Ibrahimovich was diving when it happened for the fucking 50th time (maybe an exaggeration). He literally got a free kick every time he went to ground, and seeing how he learnt from the best spending a year with… Read more »
It was a great performance, but we fell short. Had we had just a handful of our injured players available, even on the bench, I think we’d have at least taken this to extra time. For me though, what keeps ringing true, particularly in these last 3 performances/results is despite what the onlookers say, we do have good enough players to challenge on all fronts. What we don’t have is a good enough squad. This is what frustrates me most as I know Wenger doesnt like to ‘big money buy’ and I agree with him, I don’t want to spend… Read more »
Not a bad list. Personally I would hate to see the sight of Defoe and I doubt K. Toure would come back from the middle east.
Preferably we get a striker thats not tie to the ACN, or promote with in since we have the quality to do it.
We do need to replace the gap left by Asharvin if he isn’t coming back. Would love to see Robben playing for us.
AW is right, if it wasn’t for the ref at Arsenal, the ref in Milan and the pitch in Milan we would be through.
Decent list but I think a lot of youngsters will come into the picture next season. Coquelin, Ryo, Ox, Afobe, Yennaris, Ozyakup. It remains to be seen where Wilshere will play, but if he’s deployed in a deeper role then I’d say we need a quality attacking midfielder.
Agreed that we need a goalscorer though. How many players can deputise for RvP in the system we use though?
Absolutely. Arsenal class, Arsenal style and Gunner courage. The lads need all of the 6 days they have to recover before Newcastle visit the Grove, and they have another 9 days before the Everton match. I’m really looking forward to those. Last season the team fell apart after losing the CC Final. This season, can we see this as a start of just the opposite reaction? Beating the Spuds (their “best team for N years”), Liverpool ( who “played the best they have all season”) and Milan (what can I say?) — 3 games played in just 10 days with,… Read more »
that was ’98 when we went into March 10 pts behind ManUre they would need to cut lancashire off and sink it into the irish sea for us to win this year but a good run would be what we need to instill the idea that we’re not there to make up the fucking numbers and that we ought to be challenging for – and winning – titles and cups regularly. the players ran themselves into the ground last night and it was brilliant to watch them covering for each other and tear into milan as if their lives depended… Read more »
We need schneider as an attacking miedfielder if wilshere plays deep, schneider is not a gamble, he’s a sure bet, u know what you get with him.
