Arsenal have confirmed that Reiss Nelson has signed a new long-term contract ahead of his season-long loan move to Bundesliga side Hoffenheim.
The exciting 18-year-old winger has put pen-to-paper on a new deal that will keep him at the club until 2023.
It’s been a long process, and one that Arsenal will be glad to have finally got over the line after months of negotiations.
Speaking about the deal, head coach Unai Emery remarked: “Reiss is a talented young player and we’re pleased that he has signed a new contract with us.
“This move to Hoffenheim will give him the chance to get regular high-level competition in the Bundesliga and is an important step in his development.”
The forward made 16 first team appearances last season and is one of the most highly rated talents to come through the academy in recent times.
Best of luck to Reiss in Germany. And congrats on the new contract.
Now i can breathe a sigh of relief, thought we were losing him for free.
Maybe we need to stop taking Chris Wheatley seriously?
The only person from the media we should take seriously is the ornacle, everyone else reports shit out of their arse just to get clicks.
I’d be a bit (more) concerned if it was from somewhere other than their arse.
Congrat, Reiss. And phew.
This is the type of move I like to see. Talented youngster that doesn’t have an immediate route into our starting XI gets signed on for a long term deal. Then sent to a club where he’ll ideally get plenty of playing time and, potentially, some champions league minutes. My only hope is that he does get playing time unlike some of the other loan moves we’ve sanctioned.
Good luck to ya Reiss, come back in a year and fight for a spot!
Totally echo the above, I think this move makes a lot of sense for Reiss-Nelson. For a budding 19 year old, it will be a tremendous experience to go abroad, ply your trade with a Champions league German club compared to biding your time for a limited number of Europa/Carabao cup matches plus a few odd substitute league appearances within the comforts of London Colney.
We haven’t had too many successful loan experiences recently so hope Reiss can buck the trend and return to be the new bright coveted winger everyone’s hoping for.
So like the opposite of Gnabry.
Gnabry refused to sign a new contract. Wenger tried to persuade him to stay
Gnabry got loaned to Tony Pulis-led West Brom. Don’t think that’s a good move for him. I hope the club wasn’t part of that decision on his loan destination.
Sadly they were, and even implored him to stay and fight for his place there.
This is excellent for us. Reiss Nelson and Ainsley Maitland-Niles are arguably our two most talented youngsters, both English, and both tied down at least for a bit. He’ll get to experience a high level of play in the Bundesliga & the Champions League. Here’s hoping he gets minutes.
Great news!
He looks full of confidence but I feel he definitely needs more first-team football.
Hopefully a good year in Hoffenheim, perhaps he can become a regular first-team player for Arsenal then
Good luck in the German province
Hoffenheim are in the Champions League, something we can’t offer him this season. The move presents a great opportunity for him.
Relief! I thought we were losing him permanently. Top young talent. Seems we do know what we are doing, after all.
Good move for Reiss. Not so good move for us in short term. We lack options out wide. Probably Iwobi is the closest we have to a genuine wide player. Aubaemyang can play left side if Welbeck ups his game and Lacazette also gets deployed more often in the middle (as he has shown signs of improved hold up play) Mhkitaryan on the right will be a concern. He’s decent going forward but lacking defensively when Bellerin also bombs forward (which will be the case since Mhkitaryan is more ahybrid attackingmid/wide with not as much pace or skill to get… Read more »
I know it’s popular to just throw thumbs down your way, Santori, but there’s nothing wrong with your comment. You regularly put lengthy posts on Arseblog that are met with negativity, but you clearly love the club and hold a large interest in discussing all that is AFC. Fair enough some will disagree amicably as they have equally justifiable counter-points, but for those that just needlessly hate on this chap, calm it down, the dude loves Arsenal and we should all respect each other for that common ground we all share.
He generally talks crap that’s why he gets the thumbs down.
So do most of the ‘experts’ in the comments section though. Over the years (especially recent seasons) I’ve seen the majority gang up on people for suggesting the following: That Klopp was capable of creating a title-winning squad. For thinking Wilshere was good enough. For thinking Wilshere wasn’t good enough. Alexis was our best player. Numerous contract situations ‘X player is worth breaking the bank for’ and ‘X player isn’t’. Ozil. Wenger. That Ibrahimovic was ‘past it’ prior to his United move. That Sp*rs could seriously catch up with us. That Pep was going to build a worryingly powerful squad.… Read more »
Sorry, I mean suggesting both for and against the above topics.
I don’t understand this move. Reiss Nelson is the one player we have who is great on one on ones and can offer us width.
Good thing he’s signed a new deal and gets UCL experience as well.
ffs, I didn’t consider this.
Hoffenheim is playing in the CL whereas we’re not o_O
Perhaps after all the hysterical comments about how we had lost another great young player because etc. etc. and this just like Gnabry etc. etc. and our academy now produces no one etc. etc.–perhaps after all that, everyone can learn not to accept every fucking negative story, no matter the source, as true.
Congratulations to Reiss! Best of luck on his loan deal.
We’ll see in a few years time. Have always been skeptical about English youth prospects as the top 5 teams haven’t produced any Barca/Madrid/Bayern class talent in the last decade.
Erm (though it pains me to say this), Harry Kane?
Walker too.
I’ll give you Kane, though he won’t get into the starting line up at Bayern or Barca. He could potentially displace Benzema, but he isn’t as technically capable as Benzema in bringing others into play. For this reason I’d pick the Frenchman over Kane.
There is no other candidate that comes to mind. The closest one is Sterling, but he wouldn’t get into the starting line up at any of the 3 clubs.
The closest thing is Sterling?? Really??
Sensible.
What a relief…
Great news. Good luck to him over there.
I know shirt numbers are increasingly irrelevant but still number 9 seems odd
Really pleased he has signed a new deal and the loan deal to Hoffenheim will be good and hopefully get regular playing time in the Champions League. Although I do think we could use a player like him in the squad, I hope Smith-Rowe will be able to prove himself in the Europa League
Excellent news and well done to the contracts team for getting this sorted. The Bundesliga is an excellent place for him to gain experience and I’m sure we’ll all be avidly watching Hoffenheim this season. Good news on one of two frustrating contract situations.
Great news, will miss not seeing him in the cup competitions this year, but playing more regularly could do wonders for him and get him back to us next year ready to battle for a spot.
Just wanna put it out there, but it could have been my comment few days ago that tilted the pot to our side ?
Glad he signed on the dotted line before a move, which is a good move for him, because it will help him in his development, but for a second there I thought we were losing another talent, I’m still gutted how we let Gnabry leave like that!
Fantastic bit of news. Really looking forward to seeing how he gets on. Well done Arsenal.
Well done Reiss. Great talent but as we all know one only makes it with professionalism and continual hard work. Cannot think of a better league and club for him to go on loan to. Let’s hope Reiss gets loads of game time. I see this as Arsenal actually accelerating his career progression. Arsenal fans will always love and support the home grown players and I really hope that in a couple of years the “home grown” are the core of the first team. Unlike Real Madrid, Barcelona have always tried to have a core of home grown with a… Read more »
He usually turns out to be pretty good in Football Manager, unless he goes to Everton for some reason. Cautionary tale for any footballer.
