Unai Emery says an away day at Fulham is a threat to Arsenal’s winning streak but a short recovery period between Thursday’s win over Qarabag and Sunday’s visit to Craven Cottage will not be an excuse.
The Gunners travelling party returned from Azerbaijan in the early hours of this morning and have been given the rest of the day off. Despite the hectic schedule, the Spaniard played up the benefits of his squad sharing the burden and building a collective rhythm.
“For us it’s not a problem to play on Thursday and then on Sunday because we want to play a lot of matches and a lot of competitions,” Emery told Arsenal.com.
“We also want to give the players the chances and opportunities to play, to give them confidence, responsibility and rhythm like today for all our players.
“Today, the players who sometimes don’t play played, and for us it’s very important on Sunday to produce the best performance. But then also, maybe, players who played today can play on Sunday too. We can do that with some players.”
On the threat posed by Sinisa Mihajlovic’s Fulham, he added: “Fulham is a very big challenge for us, first because it’s away and second because each match in the Premier League is very, very difficult.
“Fulham bought very good players like Seri, like Anguissa, and they have Mitrovic and Schurrle too. It’s a very good team and I think their coach is a very good coach with experience in England.
“We need to push against them on Sunday and also show our best performance. Our idea is to be focused on Sunday with all of our players.”
After Sunday’s clash on the banks of the Thames, the Gunners squad will disperse for yet another Interlull. It’ll be a chance for many of the players – we have quite a few who won’t be called up by their countries – to recharge their batteries before four games in quick succession.
can’t tell whether Siniša Mihajlović instead of Slaviša Jokanović is a joke or a mistake
Easy to get it mixed up since our next Europa league game is against his side.
What a deadly left foot he had on dead balls .
And a vile mouth spitting on opponents.
Actually he is not Sporting’s manager. He was apointed by the Board that got sacked and he was there for 9 days only. I think he doesn’t manage any team now
Let’s keep the winning run going please.
Even if we don’t play well again
I’ll be honest, I like hearing that fatigue and fixture congestion is no excuse.
I mean, we all know it’s factor (in whatever way), but I prefer this head-on, aggressive approach to it.
I agree. Fatigue becomes an issue as the season goes on, it really shouldn’t be a problem this early on.
Our players look fitter than previously so hopefully that will help
Let’s hope for another win away from home and 9 consecutive wins in a row
Hi Blog, you probably know already the L’equipe news, reported from Paraguayan media ABC, that 24 year old Miguel Almiron playing as offensive midfielder for Atlanta United should join Arsenal in January for 13M€. Was implicated in 25 goals during the MLS season, with 12 goals and 13 last passes.
