Lacazette: Liverpool game shows we’ve got quality

Alexandre Lacazette’s 82nd minute equaliser against Liverpool at the Emirates yesterday won an Arsenal a well deserved point in the 1-1 draw with Jurgen Klopp’s side.

The Gunners were trailing to a James Milner strike, before the Frenchman leveled things with a fantastic curling effort, and on the day it was no less than the team deserved.

How we got on against one of the best teams in the league was always going to be a measure of how we’re faring under Unai Emery, and Lacazette believes the performance and result shows that Arsenal are good enough to combat.

“The first big game we lost, but we knew if we worked as we’ve done for 13 games, we could get some points,” he said.

“Today we saw we have the quality to play at the top of the league. I think the point is enough for both teams.

“It was a good game, we worked a lot. I think everyone enjoyed it.”

Teammate Alex Iwobi believes a lot of that is down the manager and the how demanding he is of the players.

“You can see from each player we’re giving shift in work and the intensity,” said the Nigerian international.

“You can see the coach demands a lot, not just in matches but in training, and the results show on the pitch.”

Tired

What a finish!

Pakgooner

I never get Tired of watching it

Caught in two minds

Why did he get booked for celebrating? I saw nothing wrong.

Glit sea

Jumping into the crowd.

David

It was brilliant. I think another player would try and pick someone out rather than shot themselves. You could see all their defence was expecting that too. I loved it, pure quality!

Glit sea

Also check out Iwobi’s run into the box.

KingKolo

That’s why Wrighty loves him so much.

Man Manny

I was so excited by the performance of the boys yesterday. We’ve truly got our Arsenal back!
The transition from Wenger to Emery is going better than I expected. I am already looking at next season with genuine excitement. We will certainly mix it up with the big boys again in the CL in no distant time.
Happy days are here again, COYG!

Vescucci

Laca-bludclat-zette!!!

Yellow Ribbon

We don’t say things like that here mate!

Zakgooner

Maybe you should send him the rule book….

AnonymousGun

Yellow card for unnecessary bludgeoning of my tongue.

Lord Bendnter

Watching Liverpool and Arsenal play is like watching a match on cocaine; not good for anyone with Blood Pressure or Heart problems. Klopp is probably one of those people who keep hold of the Sprint Button during the whole game in FIFA, regardless of whether they’re defending or attacking. Today we witnessed the marked improvement in all our players and our overall game. Today we played as a proper unit. We have always had the players capable for such things, we just needed a new leader to push these players and micro manage their tactics and teamplay. Glad to see… Read more »

Liverpool were not that impressive.

Much of the danger was from set pieces which is still work in progress for us.

A couple of forays down the left but we mostly contained them and they look rather ordinary.

Klopp was out of ideas by the end of the game where Unai was still picking his team apart.

AnonymousGun

We made them look unimpressive.

Thierry bergkamp

I thought Laca was finished at Arsenal after signing Auba. Obviously I know nothing

Anonymarse

Both awesome in different ways

Iceberg10

Hi Jon Snow.

Cliff Bastin

Holding and Torreira automatic starters now imo.

Penfield

Preferred starters yes, but i don’t want anybody’s position automatic.

Emery being willing to drop anybody at any time is keeping the players on their toes.

Dex

It was a Fun seeing our performance….i believe there are more room for improvement as UNAI said….We Could have taken the whole point just that the Luck was not on our side…

santori

Defensive awareness and communication at set pieces (which was where most of the danger came from) still ongoing.

Also as mentioned many times tracking runners coming into our box from midfield.

Defending is not just Mustafi or the back 4, it is a team game.

For most parts yesterday, we got our spacing correct and we worked as a unit.

Even Ozil (along with Auba and Mhki) put in a massive shift helping to close down high up in unisn with the excellent Torreira AND Granit just behind.

Pedant

Great match and good that we have upped the intensity, that seemed lacking at times in recent seasons.

Main problem looking forward is 9 matches in December, starting with matches v Sp*rs and Man U. And ending with Liverpool again. We will be tired after a match every 3-4 days if they are close to that intensity.

Mekus

I will really like to hear what Unai have to say concerning playing with such intensity in those 9 match runs within that short period. Though Man City and Liverpool play with similar intensity, I’m concerned that our players have just started to play with same high intensity and the injuries are starting to come in fast and it makes me wonder how those 9 match period are going to turn out moving forward. Unai have always praised himself on being able to manage such conditions and his ability to greatly manage those period coming into the new year will… Read more »

Liverpool are frauds. The press big them up to be more than they are. City are a much better team. From yesterday, we are only 4 points behind Liverpool (mainly bc of first two games of season which was adjustment issues for us) They were outplayed by us for most parts. Klopp is a media construct. His revolutionary tactics are nothing new. He was speechless on the sideline for once yesterday as Unai out thought him (again) I hope when we visit Anfield, we beat them. We can certainly take a lot of belief from yesterday the way we dominated… Read more »

They all have similar schedules so it’s down to squad size and management.

Guendozit!

I love that as soon as Laca hits it he knows it’s a goal and doesn’t even bother to watch it hit the net. However, I’m gutted we didn’t do enough to win and we could’ve, only if we didn’t give so many offsides away. I’m glad Emery isn’t satisfied either, though i would’ve also preferred the players consider this a missed opportunity.

K9ine

For the first time in 3 years, we overcame the famous Liverpool press with ease. That for me was progress.
They resorted to long punts to mane or salah cos xhaka and torreira were immense.
Hats off to bellerin and kola, we missed genuine wingbacks in our last 2 matches and it affected our attack.
Holding a starter for sure.
Lacca Boss scores incredible goals
On another day, ozil fliks will beat the offside trap.
Emery, legend in the making

santori

For the first time in years, I wasn’t nervous when the 4th official put up the board for 5 minutes.

Instead I felt we were the ones to benefit from the minutes and potentially snatch the 3 points rather than Liverpuddle.

They were made to look very ordinary yesterday by our Gherkin pressing.

Klopp’s idiotic look on the sidelines was priceless.

AnonymousGun

They resort to long punts because those 2 are fast, and we pushing high up to stay compact. Fair play to them because that is a valid counter tactic.

santori

Press and cheap punditry playing us down again but that’s alright, less pressure. I didn’t see much of this self imagined Liverpool title contenders crap yesterday. We had 62% possession and we bossed them for large swaths of the game. MOst of their dangerous opportunities came from set pieces which were more reflection of our continued ills in defense we are still working on than any brilliance on their part. If anything, we constructed ourselves from the back well and took them apart with better movement further forward. I’m sure it would not have been the same experience had we… Read more »

Dude there’s no need to say stuff like ‘the simpler minds’ to make yourself feel cleverer, especially not when Torreira was genuinely excellent. Not hard to make your damn point without belittling people.

santori

We have got quality but we need a bit of depth. Yesterday’s return of Kolasinac was very encouraging. For someone coming back from injury layoff and the way he played containing Salah nut also ripping apart the over rated Trent Arnold, we have left back sorted. Fullback is not an issue so much with Bellerin covered by Lichsteiner and possibly AMN or Pleggy and Kolasinac back in with Monreal not far behind and AMN also able to cover (forget the limited Jenkinson, sell him) Cback remains a concern with Sokratis showing signs of age with his injury niggle (again why… Read more »
