Emery pleased but targets three points against Wolves

Unai Emery says he was pleased with the performance of his team as they drew 1-1 with Liverpool at the Emirates today, but has already turned his attention to taking three points from Wolves next weekend.

The Spaniard saw his side come from 1-0 down to take point thanks to Alexandre Lacazette’s brilliant 82nd minute strike, and while he’s pleased to make progress against one of the big teams in the Premier League, he is ensuring his players remain focused throughout the campaign.

Speaking afterwards, he said, “The first thing is that the Premier League is the first competition for us because it is giving us the big regularity in the season. 38 matches.

“It’s very important when you play against City and Chelsea or against Liverpool. If you win, it’s better, but a lot of matches are very important because three points is the same against Liverpool or against Crystal Palace.

“Today is one test, how we are against one team, after City, after Chelsea, maybe today we were more near with our performance.

“But also, we need the regularity of every match and the next match against Wolverhampton here, is the same. Another important game.”

The goal came after Emery had withdrawn Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, but he’s confident that his team can continue to finish the chances we create.

“We have a top scorer like Aubameyang and also Lacazette can score a lot, and other players,” he said.

“This statistic is important. This goal, for Laca and for us, is important. To continue creating chances to score is important.

“Today I think we had a lot. It is important for us to continue in this way of having chances.”

Rotating is good to maintain their energy. We have a tough December coming up, 9 matches.

Wolves will be tough, hope we win.

Abhi

We MUST win, or risk falling behind the pack.

BODMAS

COYG. It was a beautiful game yesterday. Win on Thursday and then Wolves on Sunday.

If we sort out our central defence which will happen soon,,I think we are a super team again.

I’ll be happy with a top 4 finish and any cup this year

btw

Top4 and europa league. Man City are at a different level, Chlesea are looking very strong, they seem to swing from year to year, I’m undecided about Liverpool (sure, we drew with them, but I think they are a better team), while United and that other team seem to be at our level. That said, I’ve seen so many false dawns at Arsenal that I’ll judge come May.

afan

I,ll be happy with a top six finish, with this team

Hope we get the Europa job done against Sporting this Thursday. That way we can start playing the youngsters and rest up for games against Sp*rs and Man U

alphonse

it was really a wonderful game but ,,substituting aubameyang for ramsy was not a good idea,, he would have scored the time iwobi came in…..

You’ve got a window into an alternate universe that shows that, have you?

Only the media can will themselves to believe certain things like Liverpool being streaks ahead of Arsenal and title challengers. We are only 4 points behind them. Yesterday, we dominated them and our movement was better. Most of their opportunities came from ills in defense we are still working on. Had we played City, I’m sure we would have had a different experience. Klopp and Liverpool are frauds. There’s nothing terribly revolutionary about Klopp. His Gherkin pressing touted as genius was done by Pepe years before and we out pressed them anyway…something the press failed to mention. Emery isn’t waiting… Read more »

I was surprised by Liverpool. We had more possession, looked more likely to win after we scored and all this with what I believe was a second string back four. I was surprised by Liverpool’s one dimensional attack. It’s always the same. As soon as they get possession it’s over the top to Mane or Salah, that’s it. Teams will become wise to this soon although they are so good at it so it will still be difficult to stop them. But in the center of midfield we outplayed them and Fabinho should have been red carded for two stamps… Read more »

It was clear Klopp was testing the backline with a high ball into the box and would you say we looked comfortable with that? We didn’t, at the same time our tactics absolutely nullified their midfield. Fabinho and Wjinaldum were bystanders for the most part, maybe the game would have been different is Keita and Henderson were playing I doubt it but maybe. Tactically it was a very even match with us probably nicking it on our all round play. We were unlucky to not win and lucky to draw contradicting but that’s what I felt. The game with Chelsea… Read more »

Based on the way we played against Chelsea when we could have won and with our improvement I don’t think we are that far behind Chelsea

Martin

How can you call it a second string back four? Bellerin, Holding and Mustafi would be first choice and Kolasanic is not far behind Monreal

David C

Hope Sokratis or Kos are back soon to partner Holding. Holding should be starting all the big matches now. I love how calm he is on the ball.

COYG!!! Keep the momentum going.
