Despite reports in L’Equipe which suggested Herve Richard was trying to persuade the 19 year old to declare for Morocco, Matteo Guendouzi says his international dream is to represent France at senior level.
The Arsenal midfielder has this week represented the French U21 side, but until such time as a player plays a competitive game for a senior national side he can switch allegiance if he so chooses.
With some Moroccan heritage he is eligible for the Atlas Lions, but he appears to determined to make it with Les Bleus.
Speaking to Canal+, he said, “Since I was young, I’ve always played with the French teams, it’s a dream to play with France A.
“I’m hoping to get there, it’s a dream for me to make it happen.”
If he continues his progress, he stands a good chance and it would leave the retired Marouane Chamakh as a unique record holder as the only Moroccan to have represented the Gunners.
The youngster also paid credit to some senior teammates who have helped him settle at the club since his summer move Lorient.
“They gave me advice as soon as I got to Arsenal, in particular Aubameyang, Koscielny and Lacazette,” he said.
“It’s going really well thanks to all of them.”
I like this young man. I hope he has a big future.
It’s nice to have some French young talent

Aim high, Matteo. I think you can do it, but let’s see if I’m right.
He’s exactly the sort of player we have to scour for before they get too big and too expensive. Someone slightly ahead of the curve that has the early maturity to compete already but plenty of up side. Agree with Blogs and Gunnerblog that we need to temper our enthusiasm on him a little. But Guendouzi really looks an asset already. Love the way he is always positive and engaging forward, carrying the ball with him. Likely Emery’s time at PSG had a massive influence swinging him over to us. BUT we made sure we provided assurance for his development… Read more »
