Wilshere confirms season over and will miss Euros

Jack Wilshere has used his Twitter account to effectively end his season and rule himself out of England’s Euro 2012 campaign.

There was some hope that Wilshere might play in a reserves fixture against the Oman Olympic team on Wednesday at the Arsenal training ground, but it seems that this season is going to be a complete write off.

Speaking on Twitter after tonight’s game, Jack said, “Gutted, sad, devastated, its been a test mentally for me this season and it will continue to be tough until I am back out on the pitch.

“My ankle is good, I just have a few niggles and having been out so long I will not be fit enough for the Euros. I hope England can do well and bring home the cup! I will be watching and cheering the boys on like a proper England fan.

“Thanks for all your support. Means a lot.”*

While Arsene Wenger said, “”He is not ready to practice today or next week. He makes progress, but slow progress.

“He will not be ready for the end of the season and not for the Euros. He is devastated, and you can understand that.”

Perhaps in some ways it’s the best thing, we can get him fully recuperated and ready for next season with Arsenal without any distractions. Assuming Stuart Pearce doesn’t try and pick him for the Team GB Olympics side. Which he probably will.

Anyway, all we can do is wish him well and that he gets back to full fitness and stays there, long-term.

i am sorry to sound like douche…but who saw this happening at the start of the season….i mean…wilshere not playing at all
and yet we didnt do shit to counter it…we relied on a guy who was recovering from a leg break and over played him to the ground
this is like when adebayor left…we didnt replace him…rvp got injured….eduardo wasn’t as good anymore….and arshavin played cf…
that ended arshavin….and the same can happen with aaron…
POOR MANAGMENT

Highberry

Yeah we should have bought that Arteta bloke from Everton, he’d be pretty handy

Xenon

yeah ……………arteta was bought to replace nasri, cesc and wilshere……
thats brilliant management……
and if we are talking numbers then…..benayoun can be added…to replace denilson and diaby

MAN IF ONLY THAT ARTETA BLOKE HAD TWO MORE IDENTICAL CLONES SO THAT YOUR ARGUMENT MAKES SENSE

Highberry

My point, which I didn’t have to resort to using capitals to make, is to say we did nothing to counteract Jacks injury is bollocks. Yeah we started shockingly, and the summer was a mess but since we bought the players in we’re won as many games as man city. Largely thanks to we’re third for fucks sake! And didn’t we all think Jack would be fit before the end of the season? And please please please people stop talking about Nasri, I think he’s proved by now with his finish to last season and this season at city that… Read more »

*largley thanks to Arteta

John

You’d like to buy a replacement for Jack Wilshere? For a single year? Who would you suggest that would have been for sale, reasonably cheap and good enough to fill his position? Someone who’s willing to play in centre-midfield and will have to compete with Diaby and Rosicky (at present) and then AOC, Ramsey and Wilshere (in the future)? I honestly can’t think of a realistic stop-gap transfer such as this that wouldn’t have been silly-money.

Xenon

i’m not saying buying a like for like replacement… really i dont give two fucks about transfers… i’m just saying that knowing the possibility that jack was out…and not doing anything is poor management… btw arteta and benayoun were numerically replacements for cesc and nasri….i dont mean quality,,, jack made the trio last year…… now you tell me if it was bad management or not… and if you are forcing me to give a name then dennis bergkamp has been pitching eriksen to wenger for 3 years now… wenger even flirted with gourcuff…. WENGER KNEW IT WAS A PROBLEM….YET DIDNT… Read more »

Well, if Arteta and Benayoun replaced Nasri and Fabregas, then surely Ramsey coming back from injury replaced Jack, in terms of midfield numbers.

You can’t really say you don’t give two fucks about transfers, then start throwing names around of people you want us to have bought. Which one is it, do you care or not?

Finally, putting stuff in capitals doesn’t make your argument any more legitimate.

John

Firstly, Arteta is in no way a replacement for Cesc – he carries out a totally different role and does it so well that when he’s missing, it completely affects the way we play (for instance, as pointed out – win percentage with Arteta is about 76%, whilst without him it’s 0%). That’s fantastic management to bring in a player towards the tail end of the transfer market. Secondly I’d argue that AOC/Gervinho were replacements for Nasri – we certainly got both of them for the equivalent of his transfer fee and in my opinion, that was money excellently spent.… Read more »

If arsenal were to buy a replacement for every long term injury, this squad would be too big to count.

Runcorn Gooner

Thank goodness it’s finally over.Major LANS next year without injuries from Euros.
Big welcome back,Jack

jacob

england have no chance to win the cup i highly doubt there coming out of the groups, no rooney for 2 games and no wilshere at all oh well at least we get to have wilshere fresh for next season hope we buy some attacking players too

GoonerTed

Saw the Oman team at the emirates tonight. Jack wouldn’t have raised a sweat anyway.
Good break and fitness over the summer. Good result

Rodders1971

Shame for Jack personally-but could be a blessing in disguise for the Arsenal,he’ll surely be LANS next season…unless Pearce sends him out on crutches for the GB Olympic team.
Get well soon Jack…

John

I’ve just seen one of the thundercunts from talkSpite saying Arsenal have completely mismanaged Jack’s injury – I couldn’t disagree more. They (the coaching staff) can literally only work with the information they’re given, and if it’s a positive from the player or the medical team, the proceed cautiously – as they have done. It’s not as if Wenger has brought him into the first team even with the niggling injuries, instead he’s purposefully left out one of our best midfielders just so that he doesn’t develop a career threatening injury from what appeared initially to be a small ankle… Read more »

I hope he just recovers for next season!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

El blondo

Personally I’m pleased he’s not being rushed for the euro’s – the boy had hardly trained he was never going to make it back this season!! Rest well Jackie come back next year & rip the premiership up…COYG!!

Adma

Overplayed by a desperate manager. Did the same to Henry, Cesc and Pires. It’s because the squad’s never strong enough, so as soon as a key player is fit he bungs them in. How RVP has avoided injury is a miracle. Wenger is so jammy. Had he had his usually injuries Arsenal would be mid-table now, or worse.

Bendtners_ego

The troll is strong within this one…

Peter

Yes Adma, it was a mistake for Wenger to play Wilshere for the full 90 minutes in the last ten league fixtures.

Troll alert…

Fatgooner

I’m glad Jack won’t play again this season. We don’t want him fucked up by playing for England this summer in an unwinable tournament. Hopefully, he will be fit and ready for the start of next season.

We have so badly missed him.

master floda

…in an unwinable tournament with cunts like terry and cashley…

zaff

gutted but not too gutted since we have Rosicky. I wonder if jack is going to take his place next season

[…] rest of the season. On the same day that Jack Wilshere’s hopes of a comeback this season are officially over, it’s a big blow and puts a large dollop of responsibility on those who will have to fill […]

Thierry Henry

I think it’s fair enough to complain about lack of strength in depth in midfield. Particularly the standard CM and holding mid positions. I really don’t think we would have conceded either of those goals yesterday had Arteta not got injured. But more importantly, Song has been really overplayed this season and I think we need someone like M’Vila to rotate with him. As long as he sits in front of the defence in those sort of games. Song looked so slow and tired yesterday.

COYG

Playing for GB may be good for him. He’ll be itching to get back on the pitch. And He’ll be able to get his game back before he puts on an Arsenal shirt again. He does have preseason for that but he may need a few more matches than preseason offers to get back to his best.

Fatcunt

You guys are fantasizing about next season and forget we have a crunch game on saturday. Halo!, our midfield is fucked up!…no benny, arteta and for the life of me keep ramsey away from the starting 11. I prefer chambo for that role.

Jesper Tengquist

Gutted for Jack, this season must have been so frustrating for him, but we kinda saw this coming a long way, didn’t we? Personally I won’t feel too bad about him missing the rest of our season, he couldn’t possibly have gotten match fit for the remaining games anyway (I worry infinitely more about missing Arteta). Don’t care that much about the Euros, in a perfect world we’d be rid of international tournaments altogether. It’s fun to watch and all, but never as good as the Arsenal and club football. Maybe this is indeed a blessing in disguise as others… Read more »
