Hamburger SV have confirmed the signing of Xavier Amaechi from Arsenal.
The highly-rated young forward had just one year left on his Arsenal contract, and was not willing to sign new terms, leaving the club with little choice but to let him go.
The 18 year old winger had grown frustrated with his lack of opportunities at the Emirates, and his desire for first team football has taken him to the German second division.
“The conditions here really are perfect,” he said of his move to the Volksparkstadion.
“I’m really impressed by the team, the fans and the stadium. I think it’s a big chance for me to play for this club.”
It is believed that although there is no buy back option, Arsenal do have a sell-on clause inserted in the deal which could provide a windfall should Amaechi make progress and find himself transferred elsewhere.
Best of luck to him.
Blogs have a quick question for you. Andy Robertson came out and said Tierney is a great LB and CB. Do you think there’s any possibility we are signing Tierney as a potential cover for CB until next season?
That could possibly explain why emery didn’t mention anything about Tierney in the news conference.
Mention anything about signing a LB in the conference**
I will take as, we are after an LB already, but also looking for a CB. 😉
Thing is we need a new left back anyway. Monreal is near the end of his Arsenal career, Kola is more of a wingback, and signing a left back also gives us the freedom to use Monreal as an extra CB option if needed.
And the fact that Tierney can possibly emulate Nacho by being able to cover in a 3 man back is good options.
Again…unlikely to have Tierney. We were bidding for him bc they wanted to extend on Koscielny. BUT with Laurent (rightly) taking himself out of the picture, the Saliba for the future with Koscielny one more season 9too long) deal was not going to work. We either have the Lback OR the Cback or we have the Lback and heavily compromise on a lesser Cback. The preference should be the BEST Cback we can get. We have prob 40m spend plus 20-25m from sales so total around 65m We have to pay 14m for Pepe (over 5 season installments) prob another… Read more »
FFS why no buy-back option?
In either case, it’s a smart move for him. Whatever you think of him, I think he knows his chances are limited at Arsenal; with new wingers being bought plus Iwobi, Nelson, Saka Etc ahead of him.
I actually respect him for this. He didn’t just stay in the UK or went to whichever big name is out there, he chose a club for his development and playtime. It’s not far from what’s Bennacer anencephaly Guendouzi did to accelerate their careers.
Anencephaly? I do believe that they have heads and brains!
Announce Anencephaly
Bah, is it me? Or does typing on Safari on your phone leads to some very add spell check corrections?
Presumably Hamburger SV wouldn’t agree to one and the player wanted to go. Not a lot Arsenal can do in those circumstances other than keep a disgruntled player on the books for his remaining year. Not worth the hassle. It’s unfortunate he felt he had to go though.
Noooooooo! We’re doomed.
This is a good move on the boy’s part.Hamburg have enough quality to win promotion in the upcoming season and if he uses this campaign to acclimatise to German football, he could be a first choice player for a historical bundesliga club next season. I will definitely be keeping my eye on him.
So he’s 18 and he’s frustrated by the lack of opportunities to play first team football? Clearly has very realistic expectations of how football works…
As stated, I don’t think it’s just lack of current opportunities, but also future opportunities. It’s clear and obvious he’s not gonna be getting much playing time anytime in the near future, and it’s also obvious to all u23 isn’t enough for development, so why not go out there and take his chance?
We didn’t think anything of Guendouzi doing it, and it got him his career progression in a matter of 1 year after leaving.
Hamburger SV. Come on, blogs! 😀
This will come back to kick us in the face, just like with Gnabry. Should have done more to keep him, awesome talent. Very direct, very fast, technical, good on both feet, strong dribbler.. Imagine if this guy becomes better than Reiss Nelson..
I’m not saying Reiss Nelson isn’t a good talent btw. He’s a great talent.
Guys, please help understand Gnabry’s situation at Arsenal. if I remember correctly he got injured and he was out for a while, came back and went to Westbrom on loan, didn’t play too many games and came to us but he only had a year left on his contract. wasn’t he offered a new contract and refused? from what I understand he was offered a new contract but he wanted to leave. how is that letting him go?
We didn’t let him go, but it’s well known we utterly mishandled him, badly. We sent him on loan to the PL manager who’s on record with the least amount of playtime to youth in the HISTORY of the PL, a man, who after his first game (where he was fantastic btw) condemned him to the reserves to rot and say he’s not PL-level material. We then left him there, with no contact whatsoever (so much so, the whole mismanagement of Gnabry is what led to us hiring a Loan Manager, a tactic admittance of their mistake). Then in Jan… Read more »
Its just reality. Competition is high in his position. Nelson is ahead of him for good reason, we have Iwobi and Pepe on the wings, Martinelli and Nketiah are up front but have wide function. Young Saka is also pushing. he’s made a sensible decision nothing to do with mistreatment. The one we need to be looking at is Bielik. He’s been good on loan and with U23. He has some time left on contract. I don’t think we should be selling him too cheaply. If the offer isn’t great, we should consider one more year on loan or if… Read more »
Good luck to the lad, I hope it’s a decision he doesn’t regret later. Arsenal will always have talented youngsters coming through the Academy and it’s slightly ironic that at this time when the new team of Raul, Vinai and Edu have made it clear that more youth players will be integrated into the first team that Xavier has decided to move on. Thankfully we are getting a fee and a sell-on option. Personally I wouldn’t want a buy-back for a player who didn’t want to stay and fight for a place. Football careers are relatively short though so I… Read more »
Agree with everything except the whole “won’t accept him back cuz he didn’t wanna fight”.
Football is business, there’s no space for pride. You telling me if he became one of the greatest wingers in the world and we had a chance to sign him back for £20M when he’s valued at £200M, you wouldn’t just because of pride?
Good luck Xavier. It’s a real shame that he didn’t feel that there was a pathway to the first team for him with us. I can only speak as I find and from what I’ve seen of him, he’s a real prospect. Getting injured last year when he did was awfully bad luck as that is when Bukayo Saka was able to show Emery what he could do. Then this summer he found himself behind Reiss, Bukayo, Alex and new signing Gabriel Martinelli. Plus there’s the potential arrival of either Pepe, Zaha or Everton Soares??? I hope he has a… Read more »
Probably gets sold for 9m, then later goes for 150m
It’s nice to see him with a smile on his face.
Good move for the young lad. Its getting crowded now wtih Saka emerging, Nelson, not to mention Nketiah and Martinelli plus new winger (Pepe likely). Its a sensible move for him. Wide area looks sorted if Pepe comes in. We have Iwobi right footed cutting in from left, Pepe left footed cutting in from right add Auba up top you have The All African strike force fluid front 3. Or Nelson to alternate either flank. There’s also Saka for more peripheral matches. Nketiah may also have some wide function as Auba. We now have plenty of choices to break teams… Read more »
https://www.arsenal.com/news/emery-responds-transfer-speculation Again from what Unai mentioned – One Midfield, One Winger, One Cback. which is what I mentioned going into the summer. I think the transfer team were ‘distracted’ with getting Tierney bc they wanted to keep Koscielny (one season or two too long) and point to Saliba (a risky deal at 27m for a young player) But since Koscielny has taken himself out of the picture and frankly done us a massive favour, its going to either be one Cback or if they try and do Tierney they will compromise heavily on the Cback. I think we put the… Read more »
