Arsenal Women today confirmed the signing of 18-year old goalkeeper Fran Stenson from Manchester City today. Stenson actually joined the club earlier in the summer and was unused substitute in the pre-season friendlies against Bayern Munich, Wolfsburg and Barcelona.
Stenson started out at Birmingham City, making her debut in the WSL as a 16-year old. She joined Manchester City last summer and played in the Continental Tyres Cup in December, before joining Blackburn Rovers on loan for the second half of last season.
A dream come true to have signed my first professional contract. Proud moment for myself, family and friends. Can’t wait for the season to start! ❤️ pic.twitter.com/OkQD1bTjBU

City’s back up goalkeeper Ellie Roebuck is only 19 and already involved with the England national team. Stenson has decided to join the Gunners, where she will start out as third choice goalkeeper behind Manu Zinsberger and Pauline Peyraud-Magnin. There is a chance that Stenson could go out on loan but, alongside, Roebuck, she is considered the future of the national team in goal.
Meanwhile it looks as though Danish defender Janni Arnth has left the club, she hasn’t featured in either of the last two friendlies, wasn’t part of the team photocall last week and her name was not listed on the back of the programme on Wednesday evening. We wait for confirmation surrounding the details of Janni’s departure.

Welcome Stenson. Meanwhile nobody nails the forced out of bed with a heavy hangover but have to do a player unveiling look better than our dear Joe
Tim, I have seen many articles where Joe is basically mentioned or quoted, but there just isn’t anything detailing his history, personality, tactical analysis and what his philosophy in terms of the principles of play does he use. I guess I am trying to say that could you please introduce Joe to us with a dedicated article, because he wasn’t really detailed when he took over. I love his passion for Arsenal and the fact that he has grown up a fan of the club, so please let us learn about a man who seems to embody exactly what the… Read more »
Ohhh…. and welcome Stenson.
Good suggestion. I’ll see what I can do 🙂
Though I’d point you to the May episode of the Arsenal Women Arsecast where I had a good 15 minute sit down with him, he covered a lot of his philosophy in that, not so much his history before coming to Arsenal though!
Strange that Janni appears to have left. You wrote a blog on 12th August which gave the impression that she was settling in.
Perhaps she just feels that with a fully fit squad available she may be quite a way down the pecking order and will probably get more playing time elsewhere?
Yes, all valid points as to why Janni should leave but she did play an important role from scoring in her debut to the close of the season in helping us win the title. If she has left, very Un -Arsenal like in not thanking her for her service and wishing her good fortune for the future ?
