Arsenal have confirmed that Calum Chambers suffered a rupture of the Anterior Cruciate Ligament in his left knee in the 2-1 defeat to Chelsea last weekend.
It means the 24 year old will miss the rest of the season, and will aim to be back in action in around 9 months time.
It’s a hammer blow for the centre-half who had looked to cement a regular place in the side in his favourite position in the last few weeks, having played a lot of football at right back this season.
It adds to Arsenal’s defensive woes too, with Kieran Tierney out until March, Sead Kolasinac troubled with an ankle problem, and both Hector Bellerin and Rob Holding struggling to regain full fitness after their own cruciate injuries. However, Holding was on the bench for Wednesday’s 2-0 win over Man Utd at the Emirates, and he’s in contention to start Monday’s FA Cup game against Leeds.
Speculation about defensive reinforcement in January is mounting, with the Gunners again linked to Disgusting Energy Drink Leipzig defender Dayot Upamecano.
The transfer window is open, and Mikel Arteta has spoken about how this injury might change the club’s plans, but in the meantime all we can do is wish Chambers a full and uncomplicated recovery from what is a horrible injury to suffer.
Good luck, Calum ?
Fuck. Just when his career with us was actually starting to make progress
Holding breaks through – out for the season
Chambers breaks through – out for the season
Can we get some bubble wrap for Saliba please?
Can someone explain how we get a couple of season ending injuries every year, and no other club comes close in this matter. It can’t be difficult training sessions, because we all know our fitness levels have been the worst in the league just a couple of weeks ago. It’s not like the players who get injured are always playing two games a week. Why does this happen? It’s happened for a decade and we need an answer. I do.
Or is it because they’re not very fit, that they’re prone to such injuries. Idk
There was an interesting article on the number of soft tissue injuries at Arsenal a while ago, here’s the link:
http://youaremyarsenal.com/and-now-a-word-on-soft-tissue-injuries-from-the-arsenal-medical-department/
My understanding was that the club had identified this as a problem and had looked to remedy it. Maybe we just failed or are again down on luck with injuries.
AFAIK the facilities at London colney were upgraded specifically to counter this. Something to do with the ground softness outside, hence the indoor pitch. Though I’m also sure watford being across a hedge might have warranted the privacy.
It’s the Arsenal focus we have is all. Players who have had serious injuries recently by “big” clubs: Liverpool: Matip – played one game since September. Fabinho, long term knee injury. The Ox just came back from doing his ACL recently. Man City: Laporte – around 6 months in total. Stones, lost three months. Sane out for around 9 months with an ACL. Mendy, nearly always injured. United: Pogba has lost around half a season and is about to undergo surgery. Bailly – injured for about 6 months. Dalot long term absentee and McTominay to be out for 3-4 months.… Read more »
Why can’t it just be a matter of ‘shit happens’? My son, big lad, jumps through a doorway and lands weird. Torn ACL. Just like that. He’s not Arsenal fit, not looking like he needs a sandwich or anything, but, just like that, fucked his football for the season.
Give the guy a break FFS. Get well soon
Poor guy. Hopefully he has done enough to cement his place in the squad, and will come back with the mentality of a senior player. Will no doubt be tough for him to get back into the starting line-up next season if it’s Luiz plus another out of Sokratis, Holding, Saliba, plus whomever we manage to buy in the meantime.
Dear Arsenal fitness team, I am sure you all are working hard, but somehow it’s not enough. It’s not fair to Calum or 100s of our players getting injured so much. please do something to fix this. Ofcousre I understand that injuries like this are not under you’re control, but other niggles n muscle injuries stuff needs to be solutioned better.
Get well soon Calum. We will miss you!
This unfortunately is a consequence of high intensity football, it’s the price we have to pay. Get well soon Callum
Most horrifying 3 letter word, ACL
3 letter acronym 😉
Such a pedant really!
3 letter initialism
I wish him a full and speedy recovery. How our players keep getting this fucking injury I don’t know.
Why always us…
Get well soon Chambers
Feared the worst. It looked bad at first sight.
All the best Chambers.
Feel bad for Chambers. He has really been cycled through the squad and lost momentum on a very promising start to career. First came in in his natural position as fullback before Wenger decided to try him in midfield with mixed results then cycled into defense, not proving a solution for Arsene. then back into fullback in a promising spell by Emery when AMN was not committed enough before being thrown back into Cback to again mixed results (albeit vast improvement on a personal level by the player) Now out again with injury and likely when he returns he may… Read more »
On injuries and fullbacks – KOLASINAC was phenomenal for us. Bullied their Rwinger and Fred off the park. Some people as per usual willing themselves into false narrative that Saka means we don’t need Kolasinac, preferring to fantasise about some non existent Tierney masterclass this season. Kola came in and bossed it. Pushing forward he ripped apart United and provided yet another assist (if deflected somewhat) But he has also been better defensively and has weighed in with a number of good last ditch tackles. Only concern is injury. We will need Kolasinac this season to come back in but… Read more »
So sick of these nasty fucking injuries that bust up our players for a year or more. I hope he recovers completely and gets back to his best.
