Arsenal Women qualified for the 5th Round of the Women’s FA Cup with a 2-0 victory away at West Ham. Tim Stillman caught up with Swiss midfielder and goal scorer Lia Walti exclusively for Arseblog News.
On scoring her first goal for the club…
It wasn’t a bad way to score my first goal but it’s not my main job for the team. I know the girls were waiting for me to score though, they were always joking with me about it so I’m happy to finish that topic now and to keep going and doing my job again.
On it being a good time to get the second goal…
Both goals came at a very good time for us, when maybe we didn’t have the best control of the game. We should have scored more goals today, we had the chances to score more and we made things a bit too difficult at times in front of goal.
In getting the Chelsea result out of their system…
It was our job to show a reaction today because we didn’t play the way we wanted to play last week. Today was a bit different because it was more about the fight and the conditions were a bit tough. We showed again that we can play and we can create chances which we couldn’t last week. That will give us confidence for the next two games.
On missing a chance in the first half from a similar routine that brought her goal…
It was pretty much the same cross and the first time I tried to shoot with my laces and I got too much on it. I told the girls at half time that next time I need to take it with the instep and the ball came again exactly the same way, so I knew to take it with the instep.

On managing the game in the second half…
It was about managing the game a bit better and not always trying to play the killer pass, sometimes it was necessary just to keep the ball to manage the game. I think we didn’t do that so well at the beginning of the second half. We know West Ham are a dangerous team who have scored plenty against us in the past, so we needed to be careful, so Joe told us at half time to manage the game with our experience.
On playing the final at Wembley…
I’ve not played there before, but all the girls that have said they want to go there again and they want us to have the same feeling. FA Cup is a big goal for our season, we want to go to the final, we want to go to the final in every competition, but of course I really want to play at Wembley.
On the signing of Caitlin Foord…
I haven’t played against her before and haven’t played in the same league, but we needed a player and her stats show that she can really add something, especially to our attack. But I trust Joe when it comes to this.
Well done Gunners! Bring it home now!
A good solid reaction to last week’s defeat. Two cracking goals both worthy of nomination to the Club’s goal of the month poll. In fact the majority of the girls’ January goals have been top quality and, amazingly, not one from Viv……yet!! Someone is going to cop it soon, let’s hope MankC are the recipients.
Sweet volley for the goal.
Excellent result. Congrats to the first goal. Now, let’s give it to City … twice.
