According to David Ornstein’s latest column for The Athletic (£), Arsenal are in a hurry to secure Bukayo Saka to a new contract.
The 18 year old has been a breakthrough star this season, filling in effectively at left-back and has leads the club’s assist charts with eight to his name so far.
He added another in the 4-0 win over Newcastle on Sunday, nutmegging Valentino Lazaro before squaring the ball to Nicolas Pepe to score.
Reportedly Huss Fahmy is leading the negotiations for a well deserved new deal – with Saka currently on a small wage from the first professional contract he signed back in September 2018.
That he has just 18 months left on that deal means there’s an element of urgency to the situation. His performances will have made plenty of clubs take notice, but hopefully being part of that group of Hale End graduates – along with Eddie Nketiah, Reiss Nelson and Joe Willock – will be a major driver for him to put pen to paper with us.
Saka’s performance drew praise from boss Mikel Arteta afterwards, who said, “He takes responsibility, he takes risks in the final third. He is a player who wants to make an impact, he has courage.”
He also has the faith of the manager who started him over the more experienced Sead Kolasinac, so fingers crossed we can get this deal done without too much fuss and continue to enjoy his rise and development as an Arsenal player.
Best LB in the world right now. Don’t @ me.

Besides the wage, exit clause is too important. We don’t want Barca to lure him with 40,000,001 pound
We don’t put exit clauses in our contracts
It beggars belief that we don’t.
I think you are talking about release clauses. I believe they are legally required in Spain, and possibly some other countries. But you have their impact backward: they are to protect the player, not the club. With or without a release clause, a club can always agree to sell a player (presuming the player agrees to go). With a release clause, the club *must* agree to sell if the figure is met.
Not ripe yet, putting his feet on the ground is the way to go
Seems bizarre it took until now. He was so impressive in his first Europa League game 15 months ago.
Yup. We don’t seem very proactive do we.
Is that a #fahmyout from you? 🙂
Seems the new ones taking the longest to bed-in are the execs.
Our smart proactive fans think we should hand an 80-100 grand a week contract to every 17 yr old starlet that comes out of the academy.
lol what could possibly go wrong?
To be fair, it takes two to tango, as the saying goes, and it’s possible Saka and his agent said before the season that he wanted to wait, show what he could do with the first team this season, and then negotiate his new deal.
If so, smart move by the young man to believe in himself like that (just so long as he does actually sign the new deal shortly!).
Already last season he was one of the bright lights. It’s such a joy to watch him play.
Sign da ting!
Don’t see Saka as a longterm option at LB, but it’s great to know that we have someone there who is capable of not just filling in, but making a big impact from that position. The best thing is we’ve been missing a left winger for as long as i can remember (Arshavin, Nasri? who were by no means out and out..) so to have perhaps Tierney at LB who I’m hoping is going to be a star once he gets a continued run, and then Saka ahead of him that would be a really strong parntership. Also free’s up… Read more »
Sanchez?
Cazorla, Podolski and Gervinho before that too
Whoops.. not sure how i missed that one! LOL. Poldi as well.
Love the idea of Tierney and Saka on the left side of the pitch. Potentially for years to come too.
As you say Martinelli is the future at CF, possibly partnered with or battling it out for one spot with Eddie.
Martinelli too please!!!
Losing Saka would be a disaster, players with Saka’s level of ability don’t come along very often.
All the best teams attack directly from the wide positions.
We’ve spent £72million on Pepe, and while I’m optimistic he’ll come good, the jury is out.
Dortmund want £126million for Sancho this summer, Saka is 18months his junior, but every bit as exciting.
Every big club in the world will be watching, hopefully he see’s his future with us.
It’s about time we tied him down. Such a prodigious talent he is.
There is much to be excited about Arsenal at the moment.
We will be back where we belong in a no distant future.
Saka, Martinelli, Willock, Pepe, Bellerin, Tierney, Saliba, Torreira, Leno, Holding, Chambers, Guendouzi et al, in one team, is something to look forward to with glee.
Not Chambers or Holding, you!!!
I so love this guy. He has the ability to play higher up the field; doing a job at left back but don’t believe that is where his future is. Looks very confident playing in and around the box; another attacking star off our assembly line. Fingers crossed, he signs a long term contract and lifts us higher.
I don’t remember but it must have been Reis on his loan move in German in an interview when he was asked if it was sancho who had influenced his. One thing he did point out is that we should really pay attention at the time to unknown saka who he claimed was quite something. Well here we are. Let’s cross the Ts and dot the i’s on this one ASAP
Sanllehi and Co shouldn’t mess this one up.I’ll provide the pen and paper. Tie him to a ten year contract. He deserves it.
Sign him up for the next 6 years at least! The biggest compliment to the kid is that he is keeping an established player and former Bundesliga player of the year on the bench, in a position that isn’t natural for him. I’m sure Kolasinac is taking note and what better motivation to improve.
Sir or to Freddie who put him in the left back position
He is a special player. He takes people on and is comfortable running with the ball. Something we have been crying out for in the wide areas.
Saka passes Kolasinac on the left hand side
What a precocious talent Saka is. That nutmeg was outrageously good! We need to tie him down to a new contract asap with a huge sell out clause. ?
such a bright future for arsenal. give him a 50k increment.
