Danielle Carter Leaves Arsenal

Arsenal forward Danielle Carter has left the club after more than a decade in North London. Carter joined the Gunners from Leyton Orient’s centre of excellence after completing her GCSEs aged 16. She has won four league titles, four FA Cups and five League Cups during a glittering career.

Carter’s finest hour came in the 2016 FA Cup Final at Wembley when her first half piledriver proved to be the winner against Chelsea. However, Carter has suffered badly with injury over the last two seasons. She ruptured her anterior cruciate ligament on the final day of the 2017-18 season against Bristol City, forcing her to miss 10 months of action.

She returned to action in time to help Arsenal to the league title in 2018-19, but ruptured her anterior cruciate ligament again in the Emirates Cup friendly against Bayern Munich at Emirates Stadium last July. She hasn’t played since. She confirmed her departure on her social media accounts on Thursday morning.

Gunners boss Joe Montemurro told Arsenal.com, “Danielle has been an amazing professional and character through very difficult times over the past couple of years. She has achieved many accolades as both a footballer and person and I’m sure there are many more to come. We want to wish her all the best for the future.”

Carter is very active away from the pitch, alongside her degree in cardiorespiratory physiotherapy she has studied an MBA in sports governance. She has also sat on the Hertfordshire FA’s Disciplinary Panel and the FA Council. Having spoken to Danielle many times down the years, it’s difficult to overstate what an impressive individual she is. She is a player that has contributed immeasurably to Arsenal’s success over the last 11 years. Best of luck in whatever comes next, Dan.

Thanks for everything Danielle and best of luck.

Gutted!

Eeleen

This one hurts. Best of luck to DC and above all I hope that the injuries are behind her now.

I agree. Carter bleed Arsenal. I’m slightly concerned we are even more dependent on Vivian for goals and lacking more pace in attack without DC. Also a slight dependence on foreign players now.

canon fodder

I am so shocked that she is leaving. She was really on the rise and than she suffered to ACLs. I will miss her.

Peter Story Teller

A real pity but not so much of a surprise in reality. She is a very highly qualified person to work off the pitch and perhaps her body is telling her that is where her future is.

Incidentally, I notice the Arsenal website has finally caught up with the players’ movements and still has Mitch listed as one of our own. Has she changed her mind (I’d be happy for that to happen) or hasn’t she told the mangagement that she wants to leave yet?

Fun Gunner

I’m crying,Tim. Do you think she would have left if she hadn’t suffered the second knee injury?
She has to be replaced, surely?

Nacho de Montreal is tasty

There was one of her goals that was at such a high technical level, I do not see any of our current male players score. It was such a defty control and immediate well-placed shot. Only RVP and Wilshere could naturally do it.

eee

lol

Charles

I am worried about the number of players leaving our ladies team. How do we intend to replace them

Nacho de Montreal is tasty

Sad, ladies paying for COVID-19. Football reflects society.

Its the Arsenal

Dont worry they are all going to be replaced with good players

Magneto

Thank you for your contribution to the Arsenal, Dani Carter, and all the best for the future.

Where do the Gunners need to be better: that’s my question. There is a /lot/ of talent in the first 14 or so players, so it might be a question of just staying healthy, which has been Carter’s issue, and the team’s, of course, for two years or longer.

eldanielfire

Arsenal deffo need more pace in attack and more regular goals from threats not Vivian. When teams stifle Vivian we only have McCabe who runs onto balls at pace.

Sorry to see you go Danielle. I knew you at L Orient where you played with my granddaughter. Good luck with whatever you decide to do x

shokim

Thanks for your service to The Arsenal, Dan. Sad to see you go. All the best in your future. ?

hugh

Here’s hoping we see her come back to the club after her playing career wraps up

Christopher Humphrey

Good luck Dan. Out of the thousands of great goals I’ve seen in over 50 years of following the Arsenal your cup winner against Chelski 2016 comes first to my mind’s eye. I hope the Club grant you a deserved testimonial????
