Switzerland coach Ottmar Hitzfeld has suggested that Johan Djourou should leave Arsenal if he wants to continue playing international football.
Citing the centre-back’s lack of game time at the Emirates, the former Borussia Dortmund and Bayern Munich manager made clear that only players featuring regularly for their clubs would be considered for his 2014 World Cup qualification master plan.
“For Djourou, the question arises of a transfer,” Hitzfeld is quoted as saying by RTS Sport.
“If he wants to be selected, he must have some game time in the club. This is not the case at Arsenal.”
Although rumours have circulated recently that he might be sold this summer, it’s worth remembering that Djourou only signed a new deal at Arsenal in February and is contracted at the club until 2015.
Unlikely to be happy about being ensconced as the fourth choice centre-back behind Thomas Vermaelen, Laurent Koscielny and Per Mertesacker, it’s also possible that losing his place in the national team to Philippe Senderos could prove vital in any decision Djourou makes about his future.
Djourou was a late substitute for his home country in last night’s amazing 5-3 triumph over Germany in Basel. While the visitors fielded a line-up without many of their top stars both Per Mertesacker, making his long awaited return from injury, and new signing Lukas Podolski both featured for Die Mannschaft.
Cheers to @SiuFay for the heads up again.
As much as I admire Djourou’s loyalty and respect for our club, he needs to go. He’s too much of a nice guy and never complains about being on the bench. We need players that are hungry and happy to compete, I can’t help think that Djourou is just a freeloader now.
…that’s retarded.
How? There was nothing wrong with my comment, it’s true. Djourou is a wuss that doesn’t deserve to be here anymore.
Hey, don’t worry Nas. Anything you say on here perceived as negative is immediately jumped on by a small group of weirdos. Of course, anyone who understands anything about football can see that Djourou is nothing but a freeloader. 8 years and he can’t cement a first team place and doesn’t seem that bothered about it either. He’s picking up extortionate wages, living the life of riley and doesn’t have a winning bone in his body.
Wenger created this culture; it’s why Arsenal never compete for anything.
Djourou is complete garbage and needs to be got shot of.
There’s two massive things wrong with your comment: 1) Unless Djourou has you on speed dial or you’re stalking him on Facebook, you don’t have a fucking clue how he feels about his situation at all. 2) If it came about that he did come out complaining about not getting more playing time, you would be first to slag him off about having ideas above his station and how he should keep his head down and do what Wenger asks him to do, exactly like people say about Bendtner and Denilson and Vela when they give interviews saying they’d like… Read more »
1) ?? You don’t know politicians personally but you still vote for them. Actions speak louder than words. Djourou’s performances tell you he’s a freeloader who doesn’t really give a shit about sitting on the bench getting paid for doing nothing. 2) On the contrary, I like players that complain about not getting more playing time, it tells me they’re motivated, hungry and believe in themselves. If Djourou said he wants to leave for first team football I would respect that, the fact that he doesn’t despite never cementing a first team place in 8 years tells me he’s a… Read more »
Adma- 95 thumbs down is not a ‘small group of weirdos’, everyone tells you you’re stupid and a cunt not because they’re weirdos lol…but because you’re comments are really stupid and you sound like a total cunt- hence you’re a dumb cunt who probably has never played football, this is the only way I can explain the ignorance prevalent in your comments. Nas- Bearcum is right, you’re comment is contradictory, and the reasoning behind it, is a bit retarded. But thats ok, its just a weird minority of people with some common sense and knowledge of the sport and the… Read more »
1) That’s a shit analogy. Politicians – unlike footballers – work for me. Their feelings on all manner of issues are a matter of public record as such they are expected to make regular and comprehensive statements as to their intentions and opinions. Footballers on the other hand, don’t do any of that stuff and are generally discouraged from doing so by the club they actually work for.
2) That I even need to explain this to you shows that you’re some kind of moron – your second idiotic point is just icing.
The 95 people that disliked my comment just jumped on the bandwagon and probably didn’t read it. Not the first time someone’s made a logical comment on this website and it gets masses of dislikes because it’s simply too negative. Tbh Adma really say’s it all. People are deluded on this website.
Hahahahahhahahahhahahaha! I’m sorry but that comment made my day
As much as you respect and follow Arsenal, that opinion was pretty stupid.
All you can see from the outside is that he doesn’t complain to the press. You are speculating, and then going further by insulting the guy based on how he behaves in your speculation.
If I wanted to do what you are doing I could complain that Keira Knightley is frigid because we’ve never heard her scream with pleasure during sex.
If Djourou is a free loader, he will be looking like a sissy without a chin.
There are two Djorou band wagons 1) Djorou Should Die – a swedish metal band featuring and fighty pubs. and 2) The Djorou Goodtimes Quartet – a hot jazz quartet from new york who know some smokey tunes. We could assume that fans of the Djorou Goodtimes Quartet (or DGQ for short) all convened and thumbs downed your comment. But that would be assuming and it’s probably safer to guess that a large part of the 95 people who gave you thumbs down (or unhappy thumbs for long) because they just didn’t like people who make assumptions (I’m getting the… Read more »
Assumption columns are much more fun though. Here’s me assuming philosophy.
Socrates in around about 2000bce stated that in the future there would be a game called football and a striker called Robin Van Persie and his mum would cranky and tell him to stay with his current football club, even though there was more money at other clubs. Not wanting to disappoint his lovely mother, RVP decided to stay at his club Arsenal FC.
Hey Blogs,
I’ve got an idea for your website.
An assumption section. I assume it would be successful, but you’re free to prove me wrong. People could go there and assume non-sense.
Why cant international coaches just pick the squad and not try to pry into local clubs businesses.
He’s not prying into clubs, he’s saying that Djourou needs to play often if he wants to play at the international level.
yeah, but by stating he should leave arsenal in order to do so.He doesnt need to add the transfer part, he could just say he should try to challenge more for a first team place by playing better not ask him to go to another club to get more time, how is that not interfering in a clubs business, in fact by saying so djouro might feel that HItzfekd doesnt think hes good enough for arsenal which could affect his performances.
I like Djourou as an individual, but I think it’s obvious enough that Djourou IS 4th in line for CB. Nor do I think many of would argue that he’s not up to playing regularly in the Premier League. So there’s nothing wrong with Hitzfeld being a little forthright.
I think you’re being excessively sensitive. It’s pretty clear that Djourou will not be a starter at Arsenal. Therefore to play regularly Djourou must transfer to some other club.
djourou being our 4th choice started 14 premier league games this season and made 4 substitute apps in PL itself.that is good enough.
but,i believe versatality is very important for such squad players and im sorry to say he is not versatile.
but,hey he is good enough and we pay him good wages.as long as he is on his toes when called upon i won’t complain.
Mertesacker isnt versatile either. and that is why we need more.defenders in the squad or at least different ones. squillaci bartley and miquel even sagna gibbs and santos do show promise in other positions either. i have only ever seen jenko play right back so cannot comment. that said in an ideal world your squad would be deep enough
Versatility can be important, but not always. Look at Eboue: jack of all trades, master of none (a decent right back for a couple of seasons then suffered constant brainfarts). Did he have a regular starting place? And where is he now? Not here. Why? Because they weren’t good enough in any position. Same applied to JET, along with a bit of an ego problem. Djourou is not a right back, he’s not really a versatile player. He’s a good centre back and happens to just have some even better ones in front of him. He gets put in at… Read more »
Djourous an alright player but we need sound backup at the Arsenal, every time I think of him I remember his unfortunate games at right back! :S
Good thing he’s a centre back then, isn’t it?
Per made some bad mistakes that game… hope he sharpens up. (At least it’s good seeing him kick a ball around)
He was really pretty awful yesterday. But the all the german players looked clearly uninterested and the understanding between the defense wasn’t right. The other CB had an even worse game in my opinion.
I guess you can’t expect the BFG to produce a fantastic performance in his first game after 4 months, when the whole team puts in a performance like that.
Perhaps they know they will not break into the team however well they play ,once the Bayern players return.
He didn’t look that bad, it was Shmeltzer from Dortmund that was tragically terrible and made mert look bad cause he was on his side, Shmeltzer was basically responisble for 4 of the 5 goals they conceded and he looked like a slow little girl with 0 positional sense. Doubt he’ll ever get a chance for germany again and he really should not
its his first game in month lol he isnt match fit of course he make mistake
he’s much much better than the squid, i rather have him around the squad because he’s smiling all the time. Compared to Senderos i think Djourou’s defending is much calmer. We should keep him, he behaves like a professional
WE are constantly reminded by the moaning minority that we need a good squad, yet the same whingers think we ought to get rid of a solid squad player?
Djourou’s exactly the type of squad player we need. He hasnt chatted shit in the press about lack of games, so obviously he’s a fucking freeloader?
WTF?
Well said.
EXACTLY.
Whilst it would be sad to see Djourou go, I’m sure there is plenty of potential waiting to be released in the future, I think it would be for the best.
His injuries have become a burden both to himself and the club and, maybe, afresh start (in a less physical league) would do him the world of good.
Thumbs down obviously can’t accept the reality of the situation.
He IS permanently injured, FACT.
I’m not dissing him just pointing out the truth.
How is he permanetly injured? Where are these FACTS?
Yeah he was injured that whole season when he was probably our best player wasn’t he? Let’s get shot of Robin as well, his injury records terrible, wilshere as well had been crocked a lot, vermalean, well what can I say a whole season out, bye bye! Mertersacker, he’s another injury worry, and ‘sick note’ rosicky. Gibbs, sagna’s been out for ages, and walcotts not the most durable, get rid of the lot of them! FACT!
Ok. Apparently he’s fine.
Lets just see how well he’s doing for Arsenal in the NEXT season.
I’m sure he’ll managed to win us the EPL …..
Permanently injured? That’s what you call a fact? You’re not watching Arsenal are you?
Oh Don’t be too ‘arsh on him… Now MJB see there’s Djourou and there’s Diaby. These are two different people, okay? Okay. As you were.
So now that you have realised he is not injured then you think we should get rid of him now based on his form next season?
You are arguing from a position of ignorance with the argumentative skills of the average 11 year old. A tip. Don’t blurt out statements you aren’t certain are correct and then when pulled up on the inaccuracies continue to defend them with ever sillier statements.
Also, shouting FACT at the end of a sentence does not make your personal opinion a fact, PERSONAL OPINION.
I a shame because Djourou definitely deserves game time week in week out and at a top club too. If he had played consitently he would easily be a starter in most clubs outside Arsenal, City, United and Chelsea.
But when he was given a good run in the team he was our best defender by miles!
But Kos was new Verm was out and we didnt have Mert. He is an amazing 4th choice but he does deserve more.
*Smokin’Gunner* …and RVP only gets a game because we don’t have Thierry Henry any more, right?
What on earth has RVP got to do with our 4th choice CB?
djorou will be our Cannavaro 😛
Don’t be silly, Ottmar Hitzfeld! Where else on earth is an average player like him gonna get 50k a week? Only the lovely, friendly Bank of Arsenal would hand out those kind of wages! Djourou isn’t going anywhere!
By the way: for those of you who slag me of for questioning Mertesacker’s abilities should check last night’s Germany v Switzerland game.
First game after what? like…4 months of being injured? Yeah..
You obviously didn’t watch the game if you blame Mertesacker for that. Actually watch the game not just look at the scorline.
Mertesacker made at least 2 mistakes leading to goals.
Let’s not be delusional please. Mertesacker was pretty awful.
Where did you pull out of your arsehole the estimation that Djou earns £50k a week?
The arsehole that I pulled it out of was called The Arsenal Supporters’ Trust.
fatgooner,
Once in a while you reach into somebody else’s arsehole to grasp for some credibility. Too bad the rest of the time you’re talking out of your own.
The Arsenal Supporters Trust KNOW all of the Arsenal player’s wages? Why?
Did you watch the game or is it the typical case of fatgooner making ignorant statements with no support. 4 of the 5 goals were completely the fault of Dortmund’s Shmeltzer, who had the worst game I’ve ever seen of any german full-back, he was jogging around, not getting in front of his marks, looked so weak.. I can’t say enough bad things about him from what I saw. Obviously you either didn’t watch it or are that stupid or have 0 knowledge of the sport to blame mert for what happened. Like usual Fatgooner asserting his presense with another… Read more »
Per Mertesacker is not a full season backup for Kos or Vermaelan in case God-forbid, any of them gets injured. Djourou on the other hand, grows as the season progresses whenever given a run of games. Only a slow starter AND not made for the right back position.
He is not good enough to be 4th or 5th choice defender, he always looks nervous and always makes a crucial mistake, he is 1 of the many players at the club who is referred to as DEADWOOD, even if he is not getting enough games at AFC, how on earth is Senderos playing in the NATIONAL TEAM ahead of him. He is not good enough, who cares if he is Mr nice guy.
For those of you that have better things to do, here’s a short summary of this comment:
“blah blah blah we should get rid of a good squad player in a team constantly hit with injuries blah blah blah”.
It’s quite dull, no facts cited and no original or interesting points of discussion brought up.
Your ALWAYS is my “This season, where he played out bof position on quite a few occasions”
Fuck you ottmar hitzfeld…….fucking had to say this.
I think if Djourou was at all unhappy about being 4th choice at Arsenal he wouldn’t have signed that new contract. He’s a classic late period Wenger player – no ambition, just picking up his hugely overinflated wages without any pressure or criticism from the manager.
So you want a defender who is going to moan to the press about how he doesn’t get any game time, and disrupts the dressing room? Seriously, do you? We need squad players! Jesus Christ!
Djourou is 25 years old, has been at AFC for 8 years and has not made it as first team player. Your 4th choice should be someone who is fighting for a first team place, not someone who basically isn’t up to standard. When Wenger eventually gets rid of him you’ll be saying he wasn’t good enough.
Stroud Green Road Boy,
You missed the 2010-2011 season then? As you are only a boy, and clearly new to Arsenal, I can tell you that Djourou was a very good 1st team player a season ago, and has only lost some of that sharpness by a mixture of different problems including injury, new purchases, a lack of a good run in his chosen position, injuries to others reducing the overall organised team defence that we had in the previous season.
I just watched all the goals in that game and i can honestly, unbiasedly say that you can only make a case for blaming Mertesacker for the 2nd Swiss goal.He could have been slightly tighter on the defender. But remember this, it was just a friendly and Mertesacker hasn’t played in over 3 months so you expect him to be lacking some sharpness.
Yeah, but you could say that the other German defender (Hummels?) should have tracked the runner better. He just kind of let him run right by him. Mertesacker could have been a little tighter though.
we had senderos. and we have djorou. djorou is better…
But he can’t take the physicallity of the EPL. When will you guy’s wake up. He’s a great player but is in the wrong league!
He’s our fourth choice for fucks sake. How good do you want him to get? Or perhaps we should sign a top notch defender like silva and make him our fourth choice—please!. I’m happy with djorou and sick of pessimists like you.
I can’t believing how you guys are slating djorou. The kid is alright just needs to work on his positioning and last man tackles- gave away so many penalties in the past. Decent fourth choice.
Hardly put a foot wrong when called upon at centre back (save milan). Judging him on his performances at right back isn’t really fair to the guy.
He’s been much improved this past season and i couldn’t ask for more from a fourth choice!!.
Basically……..HE’S AIIIGHT.
‘Believing’……..lol
so emotional on this one, fucks up my grammar.
@Tim. I was about to say ‘Stop being emotional about this’ before you confessed to it. I think most of us here get it all wrong that being a fourth choice means you dont have to be as good as the people in your front (or poor as is the case when talking about Djorou). Being 4th choice in most cases means you are either younger or waiting in the wings to get your opprotunity. In this case I’ll think Bartley and Miquel are better back-ups than Djorou. And considering the fact that these so called 4th choice players play… Read more »
@Thorough-I am a little surprised at all the DJ supporters here. After almost all of his starts, people were lambasting him. Yes, he is a central defender, but his time at right back was awful (away at Blackburn anyone?). Vermaelen filled in excellently at right back, so Djourou should have done decently. I know the two positions are different, but a defender like Djourou really should be able to not completely fuck things up up when moved over to the outside. I agree with your views on Djourou though. He has had a lot of time at Arsenal, and whenever… Read more »
@Corner. Thanks for the good comment. But actually among those 4 full backs in Shitty only Kolarov cost more than 10million. If I’m wrong please correct me.
@Tim, firstly I am NOT a pessimist I just don’t see him making the grade is all. Just my opinion.
He may be our 4th choice but what choice is that if he lasts only a few minutes of game time?
Yet again I state ‘HE IS A GOOD FOOTBALL PLAYER’ he just needs a different league in which to shine.
God, you say something out of line and everyone goes ‘knee-jerk’!
Oh shit…..
I read Djourou as Diaby (after a day of sunshine and booze).
Huge apologies to all.
slinks away with tail between legs
Just saying its better to have djorou in the squad right now rather than selling him for all the wrong reasons.@Thorough Kompany was rested for savic in the cup games and that clearly didn’t go very well and kompanu proceeded to play each and every game for city. You also have to remember that we are arsenal and not city who every pound you spend on gas goes directly into their transfer kitty. We have to work with what we have. The two games he filled in for the suspended koscienly you could clearly see that there was something there… Read more »
He took it alright in 2010-2011 season. Getting fed up with sweeping negative statements based on short term thinking.
@Tim. Great point. Keep him as 4th choice…if and only if the other option is Squillaci. I could go on and on about Savic looking bad while deputizing for Kompany, even though so also were a retinue of other changes wrought -from Pantilimon to Kolo to Dzeko, meaning we couldnt pin the bane entirely to the absence of Kompany/presence of Savic- but its been a healthy civilized argument devoid of obscenity and I love that. To the glory of the gunners! We are better than them all…put together! Hope Wenger makes us sing this in the public once again –… Read more »
It stuns me how quick people forget his campaign two years ago when he was our best defender. JD also had that unbeaten run as well. Remember, JD and Kos kept Messi in check.
No one has forgotten, he’s just NOT up to it.
He was up to it though, wasn’t he. His only problem is a lack of regular games. That is a problem all players have when not first choice for a team. It’s not a reason to dump somebody.
We need trophies, not moments from individual players, he is not good enough..
Time to ask a Sheikh’s help
People are to quick to judge him on his games he played at RB, cast your minds back to the 10-11 season and he and koscielny looked good together, he is not a bad defender. Seems that some arsenal fans always need 1 or 2 players to scapegoat every season. If he wants to stay then fair play to him, even if he may not be the most talented player we have at least he’s got loyalty, a rare trait in modern day footballers
What did we win?
Good points, but he hasn’t had a good game since the aforementioned Jan/Feb 2011 spell.
Speaking of last night’s game, anyone see Mertesacker’s performance? I heard he did really poorly but I didn’t see the match so I was wondering if he really played that badly.
He wasn’t too bad, he should have done better on the second goal as someone mentioned, barnetta lofted a great ball between mert and hummels and he was really slow to react to it going over his head, didn’t realize derdiyok (spelling) was steaming through. But hummels should have covered better as also mentioned.
He’s usually good at reading the game I think this was rustiness more than anything
He was awful. Partly at fault for three goals. The first goal he ran with his back to the forward . Fitness or no fitness, that’s amateur.
Djourou’s case is a strange one. While I think it’s good to have an experienced, decent player, willing to play second fiddle without much complaining. I can’t help but think he’s not had a good game since that purple patch he had in Jan/Feb 2011. Over a year and a half ago. Are we going to get a better player willing to fill the same role? I’m not sure. Even if we sell him and buy Vertonghen, Mert or whoever plays least next year will want away and we’re back where we started. Squid definitely needs to leave though!
Wecan let djourou go. He is such a postive guy, never moans or complains. he great for the dressing room everyone loves him and you need that kind of person around. plus for a back up CB he aint half bad when u look around the league at other teams
Djourou is more than decent for a 4th choice centre back.
But who is then going to do arsenal insider and write about world economics?
seconded
Yeep that’s a good point, he’s 4th feckin choice you can’t expect us to have a friggin vermaelen clone at 4th choice I think he’s turning out to be a good player, just needs a good run in the team and he can be a tank!
I thought he looked very promising when he first came, better than Senderos, but he’s one of those players who’s been injured too much and too young. No surprise he hasn’t developed much confidence and skill with the endless setbacks he’s had. I think he should move on for his own sake before his career stalls completely – and perhaps for our sake as well? I think Miquel is already better than him and deserves to be ahead in the pecking order.
Man U have jonny ‘disaster waiting to happen’ evans as their 4th choice,. or the flash in the pan smalling, who has sunk like a stone.
Djourou is better than them, this nonsense spouted by idiots like fat gooner and whatever sound like spuds on a wind up to me.
Evans was actually really good this season.
He wouldn’t have been if United had bowed to whiner pressure and moved him on 2 or 3 years ago, would he?
Djourou is a good player wen playd in his position
I’d personally be sad to see Djourou go. He has class and a great attitude. He did well the previous season until he dislocated his shoulder. I think he’s OK as a 4th choice CB, just a bit space-cadety at times and prone to lapses in concentration from lack of playing time. Unfortunately any mistake by our defenders has usually been pounced on and severely punished this season, perhaps indicative of the lack of cover and protection from midfield. It didn’t help his confidence that the majority of his playing time was out of position where he made a few… Read more »
Will Wenger play him as CB or will he be further embarrassed as a DM next…
I honestly don’t think some people actually watch full matches if you can say mertesacker is a bad player, he is a very calm defender in his first season of English football and reads the game very well. As for djourou he is someone who won’t moan to the press when he’s not playing and create a bad atmosphere around the dressing room but instead will get on with his game and try and improve which was shown when he did play regularly at the beginning of the 2010/11 season
[…] 来源:[Arseblog News] […]
I personally think that there’s a dispute about the merit of Djourou is because of his wage. If he doesn’t get the reportedly 50.000 pounds worth of wage, i don’t think he would get much castigation from the fans. When others back the inclusion of Djourou because he is a capable CB for a 4th choice, they are right. But there’s a sense of truth in others who want him to be sold. As a 4th CB, his wage is just too much. What we have to do though, is to sold Squillaci first if we want to sold Djourou.… Read more »
Djorou going for the proverbial dropped pen, arsenal fans kissing ass. Come on, Djorou is half shite half defender – yep i’l take those odds at the heart of my arsenal defence……………NOT!
Djourou’s reading of the game is awful. As for when to slide in for a tackle, that’s even worse. He might be a nice guy but that doesn’t cut the mustard when defensive mistakes cost us games. If we get injuries to verm, Kos, a partnership of mert and Djourou scares the life out of me. I think it’s in everyone’s interests for him to move on and for us to bring in another versatile CB with a much calmer, steady influence can only be better for the club!
i’m going to start by stating that there probably isn’t another club int he world with a 4th option with 30 caps for a traditionally strong international side. furthermore he was arguably our best cb two year ago and though his competition wasn’t fierce, he did the job. he’s just extended his contract, which to me was an odd decision based on his wages (relatively speaking) but i’m not the boss so i don’t know all of the reasoning. he IS young and he seems to have a good attitude…or at least he did until the game for which i… Read more »
I’d guess the reason he was offered a new contract was precisely because we were thinking of moving him on. He’s a decent player and still fairly young so we should be able to get a bit for him – which obviously wouldn’t have been the case if we’d let him run down his contract and depart this year on a free. I don’t think he’s a bad centreback, just one whose progress and confidence has been held back by years of injuries and not having had a regular place in the team. But since he’s never likely to have… Read more »
One gripe I have about Wenger’s tactics is his lack of rotation of players. Granted we has a serious injury problem this past season, and perhaps Le Prof was forced to work with only a few number of limited players, Wenger should not start players every and all games in the interest of balanced quality of the squad and fatigue (ultimately, injury) prevention. For instance, barring any other reasonable cause, start Djourou in a Premier League game against a relative lesser quality of a team. In order to have such a quality in our team, in addition to our desire… Read more »

From JD’s perspective and for his career he should go, if he wants to remember a career rather than a subs bench.
However from an Arse point of view as a 4th choice cb he is pretty good to have hence the contract extension.
The question is how much are his wages in comparison to other back up CBs?
If high, are we not better served promoting one of the young ones and release his wages for other positions?

@Bc. Seriously? Kompany – agreed. Lescott vs Vermaelen: as a defender, Lescott for me anyday. Clichy vs Gibbs – we already know the outcome, Gibbs was a distant 2nd when Clichy was here. Sagna vs Richards – the only tough one. And dont even get me started on the second team.
If you want to look defensively between Gibbs vs Clichy, Gibbs has a better defensive quality. The only reason you see Clichy being better is his recovery pace. His blistering pace makes up for his defensive cock-up. Lescott vs Vermaelen? Debatable. Aerial balls Lescott wins. Reading of play i would say equal(lescott does tend to have defensive cock up likewise Vermaelen) pace and agility Vermaelen wins. Again its just the organisation. If the coaching team can reigned in Vermaelen’s insistence to go tight on marking, Vermaelen and Koscielny could be a good defensive pair. Vermaelen needs to learn when to… Read more »
A tough one between Sagna and Richards? Go back and look at Citys team sheets, Manchini never plays Richards in the big games. Great on his day, but can be very naive.
Whether or not he’s better than Kos or Verm enough to displace them completely is up for debate, but I think Kompany showed particularly late this season that he’s a beast. Lescott, I don’t particularly rate that much – certainly not enough to make “We should buy him!” noises. Sagna v Richards – there’s no contest really. Bac is magnificent and Richards is very much at the start of his career. But he has it in him to be one of the best, so I’m not going to do him down at this point. Last year he was the defender we needed to rely on and for just over half the season he coped well. I remember reading articles about how he and vermaelen would do well. It went downhill from there, Mertesacker joined, Kos went “his okay” to “the king” in one summer. I’d like Djourou to stay but for his own career he might be better leaving, if he stayed I wouldn’t mind though.
Djorou visits this page, next thing you know he’s standing at the edge of a cliff.
Bunch of back-stabbing fucks slating DJ for putting in a less descent shift……….at right back!.
I’m gunning for you djorou.
No 1 fan right here.
ahhh diddums. poor djourou. 50k a week for sitting on his arse for 5 years and you think he gives a shit about what some fans say on arseblog rflmao
He’s got feelings you know. Yes he rakes in a fat paycheque but it’s only human to hurt……or perhaps the rich are immune to emotions.
I bet you feel stupid right about now.
I always thought that the much-criticized Djourou was better than what the nay-sayers said of him in these threads. He’s a decent squad player and a good clubhouse presence, and these are the things you want in a squad player.
YES YES YES PLEASE LISTEN JOHANN
Haha. Spud Alert. They always write everything as a shout.
I think we have our priorities wrong here. Our defense looks alright, 4 able CB’s all with international pedigree, with 3 recognized fullbacks, and Le Coq also able to chip in at FB if required. What’s most pressing for me is a lack of natural DM, Man City plays with 2 holding midfielders, even their most attacking midfielder has a defensive mindset in Yaya Toure. Similarly with Chelsea, Mikel being their natural DM with Lampard and Ramires also bearing defensive duties effectively. So yes JD should stay and we should focus on getting M’Villa or Javi Martinez and the likes.
Defence looks alright does it? Arsenal’s worst domestic season for conceding goals in 30 years.
Goals mostly conceded during games where we had to field a makeshift defence.
But I suppose I shouldn’t be surprised you wouldn’t know this. Judging by your comments you sit in front of TVs while they’re broadcasting football games, but your brain doesn’t seem able to make sense of what information it’s getting.
What crap – stupid goals were conceded all season long. Your problem is that your tongue is wedged so far up Wenger’s arsehole you can no longer tell reality from fantasy.
But before we can focus on getting the players you recommend we have first to raise 15-20m from sales, as Wenger has stressed on several occasions. That may well be why we’ll look to sell Djourou (assuming we get a good offer): he’s one of the few fairly valuable cash assets we have. Vela and Arshavin are the obvious other two, but they alone probably won’t bring in as much as we need. You talk of getting our priorities wrong but the priority is 1. to raise some money; and 2., once that has been done, to significantly strengthen the… Read more »
Forgive my ignorance of international team nick-names, but is the German national team referred to as the manshaft?
Yes. And there’s nothing funny about that.
In fairness there probably is if you’re six or younger. It’ll be potty jokes next.

Mannschaft isn’t a nickname, it’s just the German for ‘team’, like equipe is the French for team. National Mannschaft = national team.
I love this blog,so many funny creatures.no comments concerning JD Anything he does is ok by me
Manshaft is funny. Period.
On Djourou, 1) his right back imitation is about as good as Vermalen’s left back imitation. What?? Yes. That’s correct. TV5 was Very unconvincing at left back, fell over a couple of times, and we conceded goals because of it. Any moderately intelligent coach would build their game plan around exploiting a side with TV5 at fullback. 2) in spite of his lack of ability at right back, I still recall Djourou making a couple of goal line clearances. That is what a focused center back can do for your team. 3) we have gone from a period of when… Read more »
