Mesut Ozil’s agent has confirmed the midfielder is talking to clubs interested in signing him but it remains to be seen whether he stays at Arsenal until the summer or moves in January.
Turkish side Fenerbahce and MLS outfit DC United both appear to be leading the race to recruit the former Germany international who will be out of contract at the Emirates in the summer.
Speaking to ESPN’s James Olley, Dr Erkut Sogut said: “We were not allowed to talk legally before January 1 so now we are just starting to look at the options with the numbers and details.
“I can’t talk about the clubs directly because it would be unprofessional but generally, there is six months left on the contract and it is nothing unusual that we will talk to people about different opportunities and try to find the best option for Mesut.
“He might stay at Arsenal until the summer but he might go. Mesut’s priority is to stay but you never know in football, things can change very fast. For the moment, we are just checking all the options for January and the summer.
“If we want to leave in January, I need to talk to Arsenal. If we sign for the summer, we don’t need to. That’s the situation. In the next seven to ten days, it will be a little clearer as now the transfer window is open, things can move faster.”
Ozil hasn’t played for Arsenal since March and has was not registered by Mikel Arteta for either the Premier League or Europa League squads for the first half of the current season.
Hope he finds himself a nice suit.
Why all the hate really? Apart from his huge wages – which in no part is his fault I don’t see why our own fans hate him so much. He joined us and we instantly won a cup. And in all the years prior we were being ridiculed for not winning anything in 10 years. Since then we’ve managed to win the FA Cup regularly and Ozil was a big part of the team that first won it since our Emirates move. Similarly his partnership with Alexis has been our most fruitful in recent years and very much the reason… Read more »
How is the high wages not his fault?
Have you forgotten how he held the club to ransom in the wake of Alexis’ impasse?
Have you forgotten the stellar performances in the matches prior to the new contract?
Have you forgotten how he took his foot off the gas immediately after the signing?
I still remember, and I can’t for that slimy, money-grabbing, has-been to take his social media antics elsewhere.
ESR has shown him for what he is.
Thanks for making my point even more. No class at all.
I love ESR to bits but his sample size is way too small and he’s still yet to win anything for us. I worry for the day the boy has a bad patch of form and people like you would be right up his ar*e instantly.
Henry, Vieira all the icons you so cherish bargained hard and held Wenger to ransom every summer. That’s the life of a player – to get as much as he/she can in the limited time he/she has.
You have no clue, no class and nothing in common with the core support of this club. Ozil despite not playing in over a year will be missed. Fans like you won’t.
Well, Mr. Class, the little difference between your Ozil and the legends you referenced is that those guys literally bled for the club while they were here. They left it all on the pitch. Nobody could fault their commitment, unlike your Ozil who just went through the motions, sulking at every opportunity.
Auba is next if he doesn’t start scoring, just wait and see. Fans worshipped him last year, soon he will take Ozil’s place. Whipping boy is a must these days..
Reading these comments I understand why us Arsenal fans are a laughing stock.
All the haters finally get what they want but can’t help but spew hate and vitriol. Sad, really.
Exactly. Some of our fanbase are the Karens of football fans. Embarrassing. And you wonder why the media has field days with us, they’d get a reaction every single time. Easy money.
Many of our fans are but a shade better than the scums at Chelsea.
That banner for Wenger was the worst thing that has happened to this club. Fickle basterds most of us.
Please avoid the racial slurs. Thanks.
He didn’t say anything about racing man. This is a footie site anyway.
You talk about class but the way Ozil and his agent have operated during this whole thing has really raised big questions about Ozils own integrity. His agent says himself ‘Ozil’s priority is to stay at Arsenal’.. Just ask yourself why is that the case? He’s been dropped by 3 managers now and clearly not in future plans. By not entertaining any talk of leaving he’s hamstrung us with his huge contract and had a seriously negative impact on the club for 2 years. I agree that some our fan base (like many others) has acted without classto certain players,… Read more »
How high is this horse of yours. Have you been in a job where you’re paid way too handsomely? Would you walk away from it easily? Oh what am I saying of course you would right? With no actual proof that you would but hey since we’re all getting high on self righteousness let’s just all say things that makes us look good. Plank.
What’s this ‘serious negative impact’? Please define.
Compare that the behaviour of our fans on twitter and this very board.
People here act as if Ozil is taking a share of their family inheritance. He has earned it. He still shows up. He still wants to play.
I don’t feel hate for him, but I do feel he should have just moved on. You gotta question his mentality since he rather get every penny his owed than to go and play somewhere else. I have no doubt he will be on big money somewhere else as well.
Good luck to him anyways he was a beautiful footballer!
So many Ozil fans come on here and talk about how he’s just holding Arsenal to account for that contract. That misses the reality that he easily could have accepted a buyout & made the money up signing for someone else. Instead he chose to just spend the year sitting on the bench. Compare that to someone like Luiz Suarez who took the buyout and is performing at a top level for Atletico now. It just really highlights the lack of desire on Ozil’s part at this point. He’s owed the money & deserves it, but the decision to sit… Read more »
Like you’d walk away from your job if you were contracted in £350k a week until June and your boss was happy to omit you from work but pay you just the same….
Great point. But the whole debacle with the German FA to me looked like it shattered him way too much, and pretty much coincided with this loss of motivation.
Maybe he thought it would be different with Mikel. Also, quitting when it’s not your fault isn’t necessarily a laudable thing. even if he is finished as a top player, Ozil has done little wrong but stand his ground. The club, the manager and the fans have done worse
I challenge anyone to walk away from a salary at the level that mesut has, knowing full well that you are virtually guaranteed a job once the contract is up. I feel that we sometimes lose perspective on what it means to the individual and their families to have that income. Sure, they love to play football, but I don’t blame anyone for putting aside their pride when it comes to potential wages at that ridiculous level.
Exactly. Its Arsenals fault for giving him the big money contract, not his.
Exactly! Those people saying that are so self righteous it beggars belief. Seriously some of us watch Arsenal over office hours and yet we think we’d be professional enough to walk away from a big contract because recent performances don’t merit it? Laughable.
Not arguing with any of that. The bulk of my comment is he still gave us a lot of positive things over 5 years, and subsequently gave us almost nothing the next 2 (this is where I wholly agree with you he should leave but we may not know the full extent of what happens behind the scenes). Bottomline is his departure is imminent and we still only focus on the later 2 instead of the bigger 5 years he gave us. That’s just way too classless. Reminds me of the more recent Koscielny departure as well. His only mistake… Read more »
I think people were also upset with the way Koscielny behaved just prior to leaving. Refusing to play while captain of the club is not a good look.
I cant say I hate Ozil. Was a huge fan of his and enjoyed every one of his goals and assists and goals both live and replays. I enjoy his highlight reels. I must say I do not respect his decision to knowingly not be able to work and collect a fat salary. Shows a character that this fan cannot accept as a role model or professional. If you cant do your job at this club for whatever reason go to a team where you can perform. His decision to ride out is not acceptable in my value system.
Fair enough but in my value system, he doesn’t decide if he doesn’t play. And maybe he’s perfectly good at his job and just isn’t picked. I wouldn’t be in a rush to leave
Ozil would waltz into this squad with a broken foot. It’s money and politics.
There’s a difference between hate and just being objective. When Ozil arrived the entire fanbase recognized we had recruited a playmaker of immense talent, and he delivered some astounding performances and we loved him for it. But his performances and consistency dropped remarkably over the last few years. Now, form is temporary and class is permanent and all players experience dips in performance but with Ozil it was not just inconsistency and dips in performances it was his complete refusal to adapt, modify his game and commit completely to overcome his weaknesses; his inability to buy into the philosophy of… Read more »
I agree with a lot of that but think his dip in form has been massively exaggerated. How we could have done with him up until ESR got his chance, and theres room for both in the squad.
Don’t waste your breath, Pete.
15th place and our worst start in the league for 40 years is all part of The Process, remember?
11th at the time of your posting. At least try to keep your tired, recycled material up to date.
Arteta’s Arsenal are too busy breaking records for worst starts, worst runs, fewest shots, most boring football, etc
Not really a place for the likes of Mesut Ozil.
If Arsenal decides to renege on a contract and change their playing style – it is the club’s cross to bear. Not Ozil’s. Re: psychological games. He feels aggrieved and he’s implied that. Ozil won a world cup and other trophies despite not being the much hyped british terrier. In a few years gegenpressing will be out of fashion just as wengerball and tikitaka did. Ozil’s class is timeless.
I wouldn’t call it hate but this statement by his agent * Mesut’s priority is to stay* says it all. Why on earth as a top professional will you want to stay at a club you will never play for again, why???
Has the club said that??? Really? Does it have the balls to say that? Can it defend such cowardly behaviour in the courts?
Top post, best thing I’ve read on here for a while. This page is a global site and therefore, thankfully, not a true representation of the Emirates faithful. Most Gooners I know are of the opinion that Arteta made a massive mistake in omitting Ozil and attempting to replace him with Willian, but also that it’s probably best, given all that’s happened (or rather not happened) since August, that Arsenal and Ozil need to part ways. There is certainly none of the infantile hatred displayed on this forum. The ‘fan’ base on this site and other online media, leaves a… Read more »
Exactly! Imagine other footballers looking at the Ozil (Ramsey/Kos) saga thinking how does this club treat it’s winners. We are a professional club run by amateurs.
Um… but if we mention Mustafi you go nuts?
Right on, man!
Its different at the ground in terms of the fanbase. The internet is full of bandwagons and witch hunts. He’d get a decent reception if he was allowed to qear the shirt again
Full of typos too. Wear the shirt again..
The Emirates Faithful, aka real Gooners, would give him a great send off.
While players have no say in what is paid for them on the transfer market, they are 100 % responsible for negotiating the salary that they earn.
I simply don’t get the argument that Ozil has no fault in his wage size. Of cource he has. Him and the club together decided to agree on a salary that we as fans are totally entitled to connect with certain expectations. When a club pay another club a huge transfer fee for a player. That price tag is of no fault of that player. That between the two clubs. But salary is completely different. Ozil could easily have said yes to a much lower wage. I totally understand why he didn’t. But he had a significant part to play.
Really hope for one more appearance even though I know it’s not going to happen. Just out of curiosity is he available for the fa cup games?
yes he is
But believe me arteta will use as excuse ozil isnt allowed to play in fa cup games
He’s shite for years and doesn’t train like someone on that wages should. No excuse. Facts.
Yeah I know he’s not been good enough for a few years now but I still love him when he’s on the pitch.
Wow, sounds like you are a permanent fixture at London Colney!!
Yeah, all the coaches haven’t played him because of personal agendas. That’s also the reason no at least middle class club is in for him, because they actually know he’s training hard as a mf but because he speaks truth to the power, they don’t want him. Nothing of this has anything to do with the fact that everybody in world football knows he’s a lazy ass who has stopped caring about football years ago. It’s all just personal. Poor Mesut. Such an unfair world he’s living in.
Talks as if you’re actually there on those training sessions.
He’s running them, he is.
And takes more sick leaves than even I do
Not as shite as you.
Alternative facts as they say
It’s like getting married to a wife who decides when y’all fuck despite she doesn’t do shit else and you’ve given her every fucking thing in the world, and has this really smartmouth-agent. She can check out halfway into sex with a bad back or some silly insulting shit if she decides you’re not doing enough , go on social media when she wants to undermine the authority of your ship despite not busting his back either on the workground nor on the bed, basically vacationing on your money. That’s toxic af where I’m looking from
Ride on Mikel
Smartmouth agent is actually Smartmouth mother
Even the harshest Ozil critics, if they are a true fan of Arsenal, should probably root to see him play one last time after 7 years of service. Even a 89th sub appearance would suffice, and I am saying this as a neutral
What service? Train like someone who’s given up on his career, play likewise and taking a piss out of the club that’s paying you 350.000 a week on social media?
Service as in 254 appearances and 44 goals. I said 7 years, not last 10 months.
Include assists as well mate.
He’s going to the MLS most likely. We’re trying to win matches, we’re not a charity. If he was good enough to get minutes for us he wouldn’t be off to play for DC United.
Fenerbahe
Fenerbache is at a similar level to the MLS as well.
True true.
Seven years of service my arse , 3 at best
Why? His attitude and body language have been unprofessional at best and at worst absolutely shite. I met this guy in Tape nightclub in London and he was smoking shisha non stop. Hes been given so many second chances to prove himself and looks disinterested. This is what we are trying to eradicate from the squad.
No doubt he has great talent but has flaws in his game that are increasingly highlighted by the speed and physicality of today’s game.
I think the power of PR and marketing work too well on some people
Body language expert are we?
That way we are not even football experts
You dont need to be an expert pal
Body language. Per Mertesacker shot this down pretty effectively, I thought, when he pointed out that Ozil showed the same “body language” when he helped Germany win the World Cup. I really want this chapter to be over, if for no other reason than to end these absurd arguments. Anyone who thinks Ozil was not good enough to play in the Premier League at the restart doesn’t know anything about football. That doesn’t mean he should have been playing, it doesn’t this problem is not his fault, or partly his fault. It means we should tell the truth and not… Read more »
Well said @djgooner.. you only have to look at the US today to see how blinkered people can be.
Interesting to see that facade start to lift now that Ozil’s agent/team looking for the next pay cheque
Cool story ya. Because Internet comments must be the truth.
👍🤣
Believe what you like mate, was on his 29th birthday after he scored against Swansea
However you feel about Ozil, by god it will be nice to not have to talk about him anymore…
Amen to that!
And awomen.

What has Mesut Ozil done for us?
One is probably a phishing site

I’m a bit worried that Qwaliteee might go a bit quiet though….
Don’t worry mate. When ESR stops performing we can get #BringBackMesut trending 😉
Don’t worry about me, mate. Worry about our midfield if ESR picks up an injury. Worry about what this club has become since Wenger left, both on the pitch and off it. Worry about our league position and yet another year without ECL football and the financial implications. Worry that any world class player would now probably consider joining Mourinho, Kane, Son and the rest of that fucking lot up the Seven Sisters Road, ahead of us. Worry what this club now stands for – Kroenke, Mid table and LEGO ball. But, in the meantime, by all means, enjoy Ozil’s… Read more »

Big boys can go poopy all by themselves.
….that resides in the lower half of the Premiership.
‘Big boys club’ 🤣
Clearly that’s possible. Gabriel is a big boy , Tierney, Martinelli, Xhaka, Mari etc
The most pathetic, and I say this as someone who has been a huge advocate of having Özil at Arsenal, is how he as if by magic went from pariah to saviour in the space of a few months. When he played there were an infinite number of people on his back and that’s from day one. Now when he’s not playing it’s suddenly a case of “if only Özil played we’d totally kick ass!”. Talk about magical thinking. We all know this is a non starter. I loved having him here when things were good but it’s not rocket… Read more »
If he was good enough to make a difference for us, better clubs than Fenerbache and DC United would be in for him. It’s as simple as that.
Probably more to do with his age than his talent.
Makes no difference.
In his age 30 season at Arsenal he averaged 0.07 expected assists per 90 minutes, while taking set pieces. This was 11th on our team and not in the top 200 of all PL players.
I’m not sure what his age 30 season is but last season from 17 games he created comfortably more chances per 90 minutes played than any other player in our squad. His defensive stats were equal if not better than Laca’s (particularly retrievals), and he consistently covers more distance than most. I include Laca because of the perception he’s hard working. People might not like them but these are facts.
Top players still garner interest from top clubs at his age even if it requires them to sign shorter deals. See Luiz Suarez this summer or Messi etc. The clubs linked with Ozil are entirely about his performances and seeming lack of motivation and not about his age, especially as his game should translate well to Italy.
First, you have no fucking idea what clubs are interested (oh, I forgot, Football London says it’s MLS, so that’s settled). Second, he has not played in nearly a year, and other clubs would be rightfully wary. Third, his wages combined with his age mean only a handful of clubs would be in the running–for example, it eliminates France except PSG, most of Serie A, and most of La Liga. Fourth, unless he is crazy, and wants constant abuse, he cannot now play in Germany. Fifth, after Brexit, there is an additional cost for an English club to sign him.… Read more »
He has a Qwaliteee public relations team working for him!
With a dickhead called Daveo on the other side.
You on retainer too A P?
🤣
I totally hear you man and I do agree. But playing devils advocate it did seem a little nuts that we were massively struggling to create through the middle while we had a 350k a week superstar number 10 sitting in the wings, unable to even have a 15min cameo at the end of games when we needed a spark of something special.
I do see both sides but I agree the idea that he would have flicked his magic wand and saved our season seems a little far fetched given his disappearance during previous times of hardship.
I’d personally refrain from using his wage as an adjective (ref Willian), nor ‘superstar’ but even so, he’s a highly experienced and historically successful #10.
And EVEN THEN, we’ve left him out of everything! Even the carabao cup, which I believe is not restricted by nominated squads? For me that shows just how much he has turned off Arteta (an ex-teammate) and the rest of the coaching/management.
Yeah maybe. But he does have keys to unlock defences that many players don’t possess. We certainly don’t have many, if any.
In games like Burnley or Leicester at home this season I would have happily had him on the field for the final 10 mins given our total predictability in these fixtures.
And I’m sure our opponents were glad he wasn’t available too.
Like you, I want this chapter over. But it was never about Ozil’s footballing ability in the narrow sense. It might have been, in Arteta’s view, about his willingness to commit to the club–not in terms of working hard in training or on the pitch, but in a broader meaning (the wage cut, the China issue). The exact same facts might have looked to Ozil as important matters of principle. But the idea that Ozil was not good enough to play in *any* match is ludicrous, and it brings discredit on us not to admit it. We can still agree… Read more »
How long does he remain good in the memory??? In the modern game of transition spaces, overloads, the game of the static 10 is gone..if you can perform in the whole u need to also be allrounded, be quick or be gone! Capish
Not to be pedantic but it is spelled “capisce” not Capish.
Capisce?
He was never static. Good ball retention, massive successful pass rate. If anything else he could have relieved some pressure in games
Precisely this.
Yes! You get it.
He’s like a bad drug..you feel the urge to use him when you’re down, you think he’s gona ease your pain for a bit, but you also know YOU KNOW he’s bad for you long term…for all the reasons that are well documented. I just wish this cycle is finished this month, God know’s he is thinking about rinse and reping it until the summer.
We weren’t struggling because our players couldn’t thread a beautiful pass. We were struggling because they (mostly Willian and Pepe) weren’t running and pressing like ESR and Martinelli. Their efforts are miles ahead of what Ozil is capable of.
Congratulations. That is about the most staggeringly ignorant post I have ever read on here. Mesut Ozil is the only player in the history of the game who has been either top goal scorer or top assist provider in all of the following: The World Cup The Euro Championship The Premier League The Bundesliga La Liga The Champions League And yes, The Europa League. With all due respect to our new starlets, that’s a bit more than a few flashes of potential against an off colour Chelsea and a crap Brighton and West Brom. But hey, you crack on mate.… Read more »
Top goal scorer in any of these competitions is fake news. Don’t be a “Proud Boy”.
It’s still more than Arteta ever achieved.
Boy.
I agree as well but not sure about the magic wand part. Ozil is not a defender, fine, but he doesn’t require marking. He requires watching, his ball retention is excellent and even a couple of timely assists would have made a difference

It was threatening to be Leno vs Martinez for a while but that’s died down a bit. Until Leno next makes any sort of error of course
True. The other pathetic theme this season has been Martinez the Saviour. By the sounds of some people we sold Buffon MkII to Aston Villa and it’ll be the ruin of our club. Willian plays shit again – if only Özil was playing and Martinez was still here. Xhaka gets sent off and reacts arrogantly again – unthinkable if Özil was playing and Martinez was here. Like many of us I was so thrilled when he joined us. And on many days his performances were a joy to behold. But it’s well past time to move on. I care about the future of AFC not one flaky midfielder who is now over the hill. Good luck Mesut, now be a good lad and eff off.
Please.Just.Fuck.Off.
Some of you are just plain weird.
Smith-Rowe has been as good as Özil at his best offensively in the last games and has given us 500% more than Özil ever did defensively. And he’s a kid with 4 PL starts on probably 15.000 a week or something. To think Özil has ever justified the almost 150 millions we’ve invested in him in fee and wages combined is fu**in’ weird, dude.
I couldn’t care less how much he earns good luck to him. Have enjoyed watching him while he has been at arsenal.
Good for you.

“His priority is to stay”?!?! This sums it up…
Knowing he will not be able to play single second of football in the next 6 months his priority is still to stay?!
Fuck of mate!
I was thinking the same exact thing. That shows his motives are money, fame, and gaming – not football.
Money. Fortnite. Football. In that order.
Money Insta Money Fortnite Monèy ______Football
(fantasy)
The moment when he was thrown out of the german national team (for more than debatable reasons, I have to admit) and his behaviour afterwards was quite telling. Look what Müller and Boateng did after that. They showed enormous pride in fighting back, becoming startes for Bayern again and winning the CL with absolute top class performances. Now Löw looks quite stupid to have shut the door on them that irretrievable. Özil never showed that pride. He acted like a victim and stopped caring about football at all. That’s the difference between players with character and spoilt brats.
Not a big fan of Ozil but neither Muller nor Boateng had to deal with national medias blaming the country’s World Cup exit on you. Not to mention the sort of criticism been thrown around by your own FA (these are his colleagues more or less), bordering on racism. And to top it off he wasn’t even the worst in that World Cup. Laid a chance on a plate for Hummel against Korea (in which if he scored Germany would still qualify), and not to mention Neuers antics for Son’s goal. But hey in every Ozil post I see you… Read more »
Said the reasons were debatable.
Defended him against racism.
Still he hasn’t shown any pride or effort to prove them wrong.
Nothing I’ve said was personal. Could have brought up a lot in that regard, especially his love for dictators on the one hand and his fight for justice on the other. Cheers, mate. Sleep well in your Özil Pyjama.
And btw, I couldn’t give a fuck about the German national team. I’m an Arsenal fan. Above all.
I’ve been called a cunt and a dickhead in this conversation and you ask me why I’m getting personal, when all I said was sleep well in your Özil pyjama?
Why get so personal? It’s only football and opinions….
Top post, well said.
He was not thrown out of the Germany team. He very publicly quit and announced reasons that were not about football. He denounced the racism of the German football establishment, said that he was considered German when they won but considered a foreigner when they lost and that therefore he could not play for Germany again. You may agree or disagree with his position, but please don’t make things up–his situation has little in common with someone like Mueller.
My, aren’t you a whiny cunt.
Don’t know what’s whiny about standing by my opinion about a player. Would rather say call people names because you have another opinion about certain player sounds quite whiny, mate. When you’re old enough not to play the hard fella on the internet, you may understand this, sweetheart 😗
🤣
He quit German team, you numpty. Read up
He did it because he knew they’ll kick him out. Everyone knew this. His PR team was just quicker. As usual. I don’t have to read it up, I live in Germany and have seen what happened.
You too.
Yep, and the 1st thing his agent says is we are looking at the numbers! Not the project, the competitiveness of the club or league. All about the money. I don’t understand why any club would touch Ozil
Mesuts priority is to stay? Mesut lovers, you gotta explain this to me in football terms??
hes miles better than ceballos, xhaka, elneny, willock, and even esr(whos performed ok in 2 games against shitter teams then us)– hes good enough for the squad—all this about how hes not putting in a shift or not bothered is balls-anyone saying anything about captain auba and his lack of an impact since signing the new contract–no i dont hear nowt
Ok, but if I didn’t get to do my job properly and I considered myself one of the best in the world, my priority would most definitely not be to stay.
Agree on Auba disagree on Ozil being better than the players you mentioned.
Why would he leave now, his love for arsenal is just reaching peak, as is his influencer/politician career, and of course his bank account
Well just like every coach ever – he always finishes his contract and honours his commitments
Now this is the sticking point for me. On the one hand I think he’s entitled to see out his contract, on the other I think that he doesn’t need the money and a footballer’s career is relatively short so why waste the last of his prime sitting on the bench? He’s not even been anywhere near the bench for the best part of a year either.
Thanks for the memories Mesut. Now we move on.
I dont even have memories really.. apart from his penalty miss against Bayern in Feb 2014
The penalty miss wasn’t the problem. The way he again felt sorry for himself after that and let the game completely pass him by, as it happened so damn often during his time here, was the problem.
The first six words are all we need to know about your cognitive powers and general intelligence.
I loved those goals where he smacked it into the floor so that it bounced over the keeper.
Yeah, all 3 of them. Absolutely worth 150 mio.
I can see him going to the USA to expand his M10 brand. This is no longer about playing football for him that is clear.
He’s been on the slide since 2016 The warning signs were there, the club and many fans were unfortunately blind to them. I used to take a lot of stick for criticising Ozil’s petulance, his glove throwing, his social media activity, going back to Rennes away, which has carried on since, and was designed to sow internal divisions within the club. I think we should offer Ozil a new 3-year contract.
How much this time? Should we round it to a cool £1M/week?
Not until we’ve secured Willian for at least as long. You know it makes sense!
No matter what you think of the crazy Ozil situation, he will be an Arsenal fan for the rest of his life. Sad how thing turned out but it was great to watch him play and win a few FA Cups. Hope both parties learn from this situation and not let it ever happen again. I will still follow him and hope he well in his next move. The negative comments about ozil from the fans is embarrassing.
the negative comments from Özil about a club that’s paying him 350.000 a week for playing pc games because he can’t be arsed to force his way back into the squad by showing some pride is embarrassing, mate. Nothing else.
Not his fault we decided to pay him so much. The people who gave him the contract should also blamed. To makes this worse we gave Willian a ridiculous 3 year contract. The whole 27m we spent on Saliba,72m on Pepe. I could go on and on, but the club should be blamed, not Ozil. Also if you look at our league positions when ozil played and not played during his career at Arsenal, it will tell you the story.
Do you think Arsenal just came up with 350k a week by themselves?
Mesut, do you fancy 350k a week for 4 years. Uhmm, sure why not then.
It is what he was demanding to sign on again, and Gazidis and Co were fucking stupid enough to give it to him when they should have told him to fuck off.
At least this ends within 6 months, hopefully this month
Out of curiosity, what negative comments did Ozil speak about Arsenal?
Yes, he’ll be an Arsenal fan… every time he checks his bank balance.
Arsenal fan? Boy has his PR team done a nr on you guys…like 14 yr old girls first time in love…the lot of you…the Özil effect or the Özil hysteria is one day gonna be something they teach in Marketing
I’m not sure if you realise this but the club has infinitely larger PR / Marketing resources than Ozil. The same resources that have some zealots mindlessly repeating the ‘trust the process’ mantra while we flirt with relegation. All I can see so far is a manager with highly rigid thinking, a phoney drill sergeant schtick and largely unwatchable football. I bet you think bringing in ESR and Martinelli was an Arteta master-stroke instead of forced selection which is what it really was.
Ozil doesn’t have to ‘learn’ anything.
As for Arteta’s Arsenal, we’ve got a lot to learn. And the early indications are that we never do.
Good solid unprofessional
Actually I’m a hypocrite, I’m supposed to be working right now
Me too.
So does he train alone at home?
Just ensuring he is fit enough to pass a medical
It has been dragged way too long .. I just wish him all the best .. but it’s better for all parties for him to move and play somewhere else
Tbf reports have come out that he’s trains well and is still one of our best players. Arteta has to take blame because if he didn’t play Ozil then have a player that is going to do what Ozil is going to do and more. He had smith Rowe and didn’t play him. Yeah I know he was injured but he’s been back a month before he started playing him. Also if anyone is telling me he shouldn’t be playing ahead of xhaka, el neny, Willian, Pepe then your smoking some heavy stuff. Even at his worst he’s been better… Read more »
As soon as this divorce is finalized, I hope both sides really come out and tell the fans the truth about what really happened. i am tired of reading between the lines.
get tae fuk ,ozil.
Tierney?
For those who follow especially cricket there are examples of older players who trained without playing who came back stronger like Mitchell Johnson and Faf Du Plessis maybe it happens with Ozil too.
“We were not allowed to talk legally before January 1″
I love the implication that Arsenal wouldn’t have given Ozil permission to talk to other clubs before then!
Never liked him and won’t regret him. I’ll remember him as a leech. The pundits assessment was right from the go #nickedaliving. Glad this nonsense is over.
Maybe not quite over yet, but I share your sentiments.
Whatever.
Let’s hope it’s the soon – the sooner the better for me. Setting aside all the old well-rehearsed arguments about who is to blame he hasn’t played, his transfer and subsequent improved contract (agreed under AW’s watch, of course) has been the biggest financial disaster for the club – ever. Even if he stays until the summer (and I suspect, despite my hope, that he probably will given what he’s said previously), the end of this nightmare is near and that must be good news for the club -which is more important than any player.
Think your wrong. He’s been our highest shirt seller and commercially our biggest star. Good try but you might want to think Pepe as biggest financial disaster.
Your customary pop at Wenger, as usual….
Zzzzzzzz……
With everything I’ve read online from people who still think Ozil is useful, surely some big club around Europe is in for him? Juventus, Inter maybe? Oh….Fenerbache and some random club in the US. Almost like every club around Europe knows he’s rubbish now.
Go online and you’ll see that Juve are currently considering a bid.
Maybe they feel they need more Twitter followers.
Ahhahaa..you know I can’t eaven tell if your being sarcastic or not. They have been on a big Marketing ofensive, sure they could do with a legendary mastermind promoter..follower mag et etc.
You do know to have posted this comment originally, I came online?
It’s over. Has been for ages. Setting aside all the arguing and complications which now overshadow things – He made passes that only HE could imagine, let alone execute. Not Zidane, not Messi, not Pele could see those passes. And that was a privilege to watch and I was glad he did it for Arsenal, a club for whom the beauty of football is (nearly) everything.
Couldn’t have put it better myself.
Well said. 👍🍺🍺
Putting aside all the old arguments, and concentrating on when he actually played matches for Arsenal it’s fair to say that when he “did it”, he did it – no doubt about that – BUT he didn’t do it all the time when he played, not by any means. Unlike many posting comments about this I suspect, I actually saw almost all of his home games and a fair number of the away performances as well. In reality, his transfer fee combined with his well-reported wages just didn’t justify what we got.
I’m shocked that he has any suiters to be honest, why would you want someone that clearly has very little desire to play football? I will be glad when this Ozil circus is over – hopefully January but unfortunately, due to his desire to put money over football, it will likely be in the summer!!!
Ozil’s four year contract at £350k a week amounts to £72.8 million. Just a touch more than Pepe’s transfer fee. Hard to say which deal represents the worst value for Arsenal. Either way, added together, that is one hell of a waste of money for a club failing every year to qualify for the Champions League.
Add 40-50 millions salary during his first 4 years and 40+ millions transfer fee and you see what he’s actually cost us.
yeah but in the years before he put in performances regularly. post sanchez leaving he signed a big money deal but heart wasn’t in it.
we should have kept them both and ‘restructured’ the debt then to allow us to buy quality. Hindsight…
No, we should have sold both the previous summer, it was clear as day. A certain Frenchman’s ego wouldn’t allow it though
And what kind of message would that have sent out to the rest of the football world, know-it-all…..?
That Arsenal couldn’t hold onto their biggest stars and lacked ambition? Let me remind you, we were in the mix for ECL qualification then.
Not trying to avoid relegation, as we are now.
Sorry Sir, I was just cupping an imaginary pair of breasts. Goodmorning sir, how are we today, sir? – Fine, I’m fine, thank you. – Radiant. Radiant, as you English people like to say. – I was looking for a, uh, something in a very traditional British suit. You’re an American, aren’t you, sir? – Yes. You been here long? – A couple of days. You boned anyone yet, sir? Oh! – What? The suit, sir. A pinstripe or a tweed? – I don’t, uh, maybe Perhaps a pinstripe. – OK. – Oh, yes, sir. I can see it now,… Read more »
Can’t wait for him to leave and take his fan boys with him. The guy has looked like Willian for the last 3 season, only at Arsenal to collect wages before retirement. Not gonna miss him. I think a lot of the trouble behind the scenes is created by Ozil, so good riddance. We move on.
I was so excited when Mesut joined, and up until the fallout with the German National team he was my absolute favourite player. He’s changed a lot since then, become too close to Erdogan , his tweet justifying the Nogorno-Karabakh war made me sick. He’s embarrassed himself with tweets stirring the pot about Gunnersaurus (he’s a mascot, not a man, doesn’t live in a boring house in suburbia, did the club sanction taking the suit home and making those tweets?) and sitting around professing to love the club while taking the money. Mesut just needs to go now, I’m sick… Read more »
BS he didnt drop himself, the club did, also he is entitled to see out his contract…For all the speculation, theories, conjecture; whether you are for or against… one fact remains – the club straight faced called the exclusion as being due to “footballing reasons”..i.e. Not even fit for caraboa cup or europa.. laughable when you consider who made the squad.. hence why there are so many theories and so much speculation as to the actual reason
You realize he could have taken a buyout and easily made the same amount of money actually playing elsewhere. The guy literally chose to sit out a minimum of 1/2 a year which tells you a lot about where he’s at. Compare that to Luis Suarez who took a buyout so he could go play for Atletico and is playing at a high level stil
Correct me if mistaken, a buy out would require the player or purchasing club to ‘buy out’ the contract (usually an excessive amount).
In addition the purchasing club would have to pay his wages. Doesnt sound like ‘easily make the same amount of money’ as you claim.
Also how practical is it for a 30 year old on high wages and little time between knowing not part of the team and end of transfer window? (asking honestly)
I don’t think you understand how a contract or buyout work. Arsenal owed Ozil something like 30m gbp this year unless he chose to accept a transfer which was never going to happen. So we owe him that money whether he plays or not. In a buyout the club and the player negotiate a settlement – let’s say Arsenal offered to pay him 25m at the beginning the year and would give him a free transfer. All Ozil would have to do is find a team willing to pay him 5m for the year and he still would have made… Read more »
That makes sense and would prob have been best for everyone.
I was using the definition here which is different https://www.danielgeey.com/post/buy-out-release-clauses-in-football-the-basics/
I think with time the full story and facts will come out, I doubt the club is entirely innocent in this saga though i.e. Footballing reasons 🤪
BS he did drop himself, staying home when it was an away game.
The last time that happened was under Emery, so no
12 games for arteta pre lockdown without missing any due to being ill, so no.
It can be for football reasons and not be about his ability. For example, it has been clear for 2 years now that the club wants him gone and he has no future beyond this contract, so why give him playing time ahead of someone who possibly does have a future at the club. That is a football reason, it is to encourage/develop/ keep motivated another player(s)
Fair enough, except there are multiple examples, think kolasinac and mustafi playing recently, that contradicts that.
Additionally dont play for game/s vs omit from squad entirely
I hope he leaves and plays somewhere.
Good call.
Somewhere where there’s a manager who actually knows what he’s doing.
I actully love Ozil. Loved when we signed him and what that meant at the time. Delivered a lot when compared to our other record signings since, certainly their equal. I feel like none of our coaches, including Wenger, ever really got the absolute maximum potential out of him. I wanted to see the Ludogrets goal against Man U or Chelsea instead. There is always more complexity to these things than we imagine. Mikhi is currently absolutely smashing it and we were glad to see him gone. Having said all that, Ozil would not make it into my best Arsenal… Read more »
Great comment, well said.
I’m looking forward to not have to see anything from his agent anymore. I’m so bored of this situation. Seeing a talented player rot on the sidelines towards the end of his peak and into the twilight of his career is sad. He should be playing but not for us. Obviously the money is crazy good but I feel he may later regret the last two years. Being a footballer is about creating memories, looking back on all the sporting achievements. He has had plenty but it’s a shame for football fans that he hasn’t put himself in a position… Read more »
Well said. In the final analysis, when he is on the TV analyst circuit in his 40s and 50s, he’ll regret wasting 2 years of his career, regardless of how many millions he put in his bank account.
Guys, we don’t know the details of the contract. From what I could gather, it sounds like the contract comes with a bunch of “loyalty” clauses, meaning Ozil would only get close to the 350k a week if he stays for the full length of the contract. This could be the main reason that makes him stay, i.e. to gain significant amount of money for himself. Furthermore, there could also be “performance” clauses, meaning Ozil would need to hit some targets to get the full 350k a week over 3.5 years. This could be the main reason why he wasn’t… Read more »
Some of the comments on here to Ozil are figuring tbh. Not sure if Admin is even taking notice as I know he is another one that doesn’t particularly like Ozil But anyway onto the enigmatic playmaker. I was one of those that was going crazy when he signed on deadline day I don’t think another player coming in can top that tbh. And I remmeber going to the Emirates and watching the CL game against Napoli where he absolutely dominated. Fast forward a couple years and it looks like a sad end to someone who is a generational talent… Read more »
