Benik Afobe says his ambition in the wake of his loan move to Bolton is to do well week in, week out for the Trotters and return to Arsenal a better and more experienced player.
The young striker follows Jack Wilshere and Ryo Miyaichi to the Reebok and says once he heard Bolton were interested he had no doubts.
“The manager spoke to me at Arsenal and told me that Bolton was interested in me. Once he told me that, my mind was already made up,” he told Bolton’s offical website.
“Arsene Wenger said to me that he wanted me to go out on loan and learn, play week in and week out, and help a very good team win promotion back to the Premier League.
“The manager said to me that he likes to give young players a chance because they’re hungry and they have a point to prove. Those words have stuck in my head since and when I get my chance hopefully I can take full advantage of it.”
Afobe will wear 17 at his new club and wants to make the most of the chance of playing regular football.
“I want to play as much as much as I can, put in good performances and score goals, but it is important to remember that football is a team sport and not just about one player,” he said.
“I have come here to develop my game and gain more experience. In doing so, hopefully I will return to Arsenal a much better, more experienced player.”
Many young strikers have left Arsenal on loan, few have returned to make a first team impact, let’s hope Benik Afobe is the one to buck that trend.
With kevin davies ageing, Afobe will likely feature heavily for bolton. Make the best of it son! I am looking forward to hearing only good things and seeing you add to the growing true gooner contingent at the club next season!
I think the fact that Kevin Davies isn’t actually very good may also help Benik!
I’ve rated Afobe for ages, and I really hope he fulfils his potential.
I remember back when Afobe was in the U14’s I think, and his name was on the official Arsenal site when I was browsing for youngsters. His description back then was super glowing, and for almost a decade I kept his name in my mind, Benik Afobe, also it was a cool name.
So glad the Arsenal site wasn’t wrong. It was begging the reader to rate him, whereas they didn’t hype other youngsters as much as he did.
I also rated rvp for ages but after one fucking letter I stopped.
How sad 🙁
arseblog, y u no publish more material?!
i’ll take anything, anything at all…i used to read a lot of the other blogs as featured on newsnow, but i came to the conclusion long ago that this blog is thee blog! ive been waiting for the official confirmation of cazorla for what feels like the duration of pregnancy..please let it happen tomoro..please
also, i reckon tht aneke/afobe have the the potential to be our yorke/cole (what? it was a pretty good partnership in fairness!)
I think the most successful striker to go on loan was bendtner! he returned to score 45 goals in just 79 starts (obviously had a few 5-15 minute cameos but they make up for the minutes loss when he was subbed off) more goals than rvp managed in his first 4 seasons and he started more games. i just hope we treat afobe better than bendtner cos i doubt afobe will get more goals than bendtner.
lol ridiculous statement on the latter
ETID, Bendtner has a total of 22 goals for us, please try not to make up statistics…
Bendtner has scored 45 goals for Arsenal – http://www.arsenal.com/first-team/players/nicklas-bendtner
you just got BLOGGED!
Oh Bobby, you could have done the most cursory of research. But that wasn’t good enough for you, was it?
@bobby, Your research is worse as tgstels’ first touch!.
Bobby pires im waiting for an apology!
Hey hold on i really hope im wrong. i really rate afobe i just despise the way many of our fans ignore the facts. bendtner may be a prize twat but 45 goals in 79 starts has only been beaten by 2 players in our history!
Can any Bolton supporters let us know if there is a Nando’s somewhat close to the Reebok?
I would hope that Afobe did his research homework before agreeing to the move.
He is not Craig Eastmond.
At least I hope so.
Let’s hope he does well at Bolton. Owen Coyle is no doubt a good manager and all round good bloke, but it depends on Afobe and how he handles the expectations of of both Arsenal and Bolton fans.
Both Jack and Ryo gained valuable education from their loan spells to Reebok although Ryo got injured in the final couple of weeks.
In unrelated news, I heard Ryo will go out on loan to Wigan.
No thats just what eveyones been tweeting about… Wigan have not asked for Ryo on loan however this could be a very good move for him.
Next year i think we will have 4 very good players in our team: Afobe, Ryo, Frimpong and Coquellen. Frimpong should also be loaned after he recovers from his injury and Coquellen will improve as a player by next year.
I really hope he gets his head down and learns as I really like this guy. I love to see players that want to be in out 1st team and are willing to learn.
Get stuck in fella work hard and the fans will love you when you come home to us.
I see another wilsher-esque development with afobe. Let’s all hope he comes back with a little more precision when infront of goal.

AT LAST
There is literally nothing in that article that we didn’t know this time last week.
Joined the squad in Germany, surely that’s go to be good news.
If he’s really on the way to Germany then this it’s over. We did it !! ”
“He is Gunner”
Actually with his 5’7 height.
I’d say “he is gunnersaurus”.
What do you guys see in Afobe, lol
(づ0_0)づ ︻┳デ═一 Say “What do you guys see in Afobe, lol” one more time. Say it!!!.
Wow the last time I saw something like this, I flushed it!.
@50 Shades of Ramsey Another interesting thing about that article is that RvP is travelling with the squad to Germany. It looks like having said that “I am too good for Arsenal” he has suddenly realised that his options are not that great, after all. For both City and United, spending tens of millions in transfer fees and wages on a 29-year-old player with a very suspect injury record is not exactly great business. I wouldn’t be surprised now if he comes grovelling back to Wenger to discuss a new contract having had a “change of heart”. Wenger should offer… Read more »
take the captaincy off him 1st
Get cazorla, Rvp stays.
What a line up!!!.
Team 2.
fabianski.
Jenks—mert—–djorou—-gibbs/santos
eisfeld/sahin—coquelin/frimmers—-rosicky
Walcott—giroud–chambo.
(fa cup, carling cup)
Team 1.
Szcz: the king
Sagna—–verm—–bosscienly——santos/gibbs
Song—–diaby/wilshere—–arteta
Cazorla—-rvp——podolski/gervinho.
(uefa champions league, premier league).
Giroud to good to be 2nd line up and is it the right Cazorla position?
i think this proposed line up thing is a bit silly because now a days with rotation there doesn’t ever seem to be a set XI, say if we get sahin, song, arteta and sahin will all be rotating. its not like song will play until he gets hurt and then someone comes in
and i dont mean to come across as a cunt

Whatever happened to Sanchez Watt?
“Giroud too good to be in the second line up”……….yeah, that’s how good we are!.
Cazorlas’ position- it’s debatable, wenger knows best.
Came on at half time for Bolton vs Tranmere and scored a hattrick. I know it’s only preseason, but wow.
