Tim speaks to Director of Football at Sky Sports Gary Hughes and they talk about when and why Sky got involved in the bidding process, what goes into a rights bidding process and giving the WSL the “Sky treatment.”
Then Alex is joined by Sky Sports producer Nia Wyn Thomas and presenter Caroline Barker to talk about the content side of Sky’s coverage- the tactical analysis, how players might deal with increased scrutiny and criticism and the look and feel of Sky’s coverage. I really enjoyed hearing this although when Gary Hughes said about the Sky vision of engaging the male support of PL clubs with their womens teams and gave the example of AFC v Watford followed on by AWFC V West Ham as a double header at the Emirates. I thought bye bye all the good stuff about fan interaction with the players as it now is in the womens game and ultimately how the WSL has become a clone of the PL.
