Arsenal are looking to bounce back from last weekend’s defeat at Anfield with a win over bottom of the table Newcastle.
Here are today’s official line-ups.
Arsenal: Ramsdale, Tomiyasu, White, Gabriel, Tavares, Partey, Sambi, Odegaard, Smith Rowe, Saka, Aubameyang
Subs: Leno, Tierney, Lacazette, Maitland-Niles, Holding, Pepe, Elneny, Nketiah, Martinelli
Newcastle: Dubravka, Fraster, Krafth, Lascelles, Schar, Ritchie, Shelvey, Willock, Saint-Maximin, Joelinton, Wilson
Subs: Darlow, Clark, Lewis, Hayden, Hendrick, Manquillo, Murphy, Almiron, Longstaff
Good.
Nice to see Tavares starting again, should be important for his confidence and it shows trust in the young player. But for United and Everton I expect/hope to see Tierney again.
Exactly. Tierney should be back into the starting line up. One of our most reliable. And this is not me knocking off Tavares, I have been impressed with him as well.
That’s not how competition for a starting place work’s
I disagree. I think Tierney should start if he’s fit.
Let this be the game where we get into their box more and get shots away.
It’s a big game for Arteta me thinks. We are so poor at creating chances and scoring. With the attacking talent we have we need to be scoring far more. The jury is still out for me. Fingers crossed 🤞
Scotland rinse the shit out of Tierney. It’s a joke, no respect for the player
Are you being ironic?
I meant Scotland have no respect. He wasn’t fit for us, played for Scotland in the red zone and now out again.
He was on the bench for us before Scotland games. He was picked in 2 important wold cup qualfiers. He has been for us since then. None of what you are saying make sense.
On the bench for us since then I meant
I mean there are several ways I could respond. But I think principally I would just point out he isn’t out.
He’s on the bench because he’s not fit to start. He wasn’t fit before Scotland and now it’s set him back further. I want our best players to play. I don’t care about Scotland
Who says he’s not fit ? Has Arteta said he isn’t fit ? He said he was fit for Liverpool, he just wasn’t picked. Did he say it for the game before international break ? No.
I don’t care about Scotland either ! But I have no problem with them selecting a player for huge games for them.
Yeah sure, but making up some story about him being not fit doesn’t make sense.
Though Tiernay probably does… And suffice to say the rest of us care what he thinks more than we care what you think
As the comment below states this is a good game for tavares to get the last match off his mind and over the disappointment of his performance.
Happy to see Tavares keep his spot he needs to get the last game out of his system.
It would have been quite to knock to a young players confidence to be dropped after one mistake. Plenty of time for Tierney to return to the team. Lots of fixtures coming up.
Agree 100% it’s teirneys spot and rightfully so but Tavares would have had a long time to dwell on it if he didn’t get a run out.
Really amazed by these types of comments. KT is our best left full & is on the bench for 3 games in a row. It’s just weird if you ask me.
He’s also been struggling on and off with injuries, and recently played a bunch for Scotland (impressively I’d add).
I don’t think it’s weird to guess that we are playing it careful with giving him minutes, maybe hoping to get him a half hr at the end if we can do the business first half, in order to build him up.
He’s a great player but you have to trust the management to manage his work load.
Not only that, keeping tavares in after his impressive performances before the Liverpool game helps to maintain that level and stop him dwelling on the poor outing last week. Drop him now and he may never trust himself again.
If you are worried that Nuno isn’t up to scratch Vs Newcastle I’d suggest rewatching his past performances
Tavares is the only surprise for me.
That is Wenger-esque – throwing a player who made a high profile mistake, and might be low on confidence, back into the fray. Little wonder Arteta wants Arsene close to him. Men of like minds.
Auba can do no wrong. Mistake imo to start him against a team that is going to sit low. He has no technical attributes. Would have start laca up top to combine with the other 3. As opposed to what the site narrative is , he is an outstanding finisher too. COYG
Another one that aged well 😉
I see a tricky game. Newcastle dont want to remain bottom of the table. I’d take the 3 points even if the football isn’t pretty in the eye today. COYG!!!
I fancy Auba to score today. He usually does against the Toon.
Even if does eventually, that miss is unforgivable as Wrighty said. Auba is too casual. That’s why his potential to rise up to the status of a true Arsenal great would most likely remain nothing but a potential.
Well this didn’t age well
Personally I would have gone for Tierney to get minutes under his belt with the next two games being tough away fixtures, but Tavares has been better than Tierney this season so there is logic in sticking with the form player.
I could see Tavares as a future left winger though so perhaps in the future there is a place for both in the starting 11.
And I’ll tell ya, honestly, I would love it if Newcastle got relegated this season. Love it.
I’m pleased to see Odegaard start, this is the perfect setup to really show us his talent, really want him to be the creator for Auba.
Excellent point, we need to be creating more chances and he’s someone who can spot a runner and pick a pass.
Tierney should have started. Taveres had a stinker at Anfield and should have paid the price. That’s how professional football should work.
Newcastle are rubbish and we should beat them by at least two clear goals.
I’d take a 1-0, clean sheet, and 3 points.
We’re more George Graham than Arsene Wenger at the moment which is absolutely fine for stability at this stage of the project.
I really would have like KT to start.
Hopefully we put 4 in the first half and then give KT, Pepe, and Gabi some game time
From what I’ve seen on the telly Newcastle have several threats: 1) Saint-Maximin wins the ball on the edge of his own 18 yd box, runs the length of the park and scores. 2) Saint-Maximin wins the ball on the edge of his own 18 yard box, runs the length of the park and taps it to someone else, who scores. 3) Saint-Maximin wins the ball on the edge of his own 18 yard box, passes it to someone else and then runs the length of the park to get on the end of the move and score. I can’t… Read more »
We are wasting Smith-Rowe on the wing. He is an attacking midfielder, period. Instead of playing Odegaard in AMF, Arteta should’ve put Odegaard in CMF, Lokonga in DMF and Smith-Rowe in AMF. We need to play through midfield and the center of the field instead of constantly put the ball through the wings where nothing comes from it. A blind man can see that Aubameyang is cut off. No service at all and how can we expect the striker to do something? It’s not Aubameyang who’s on a bad form, it’s Arteta who doesn’t want to put things right.
Tierney and AMN for Tavares and Tomyasu
Tomiyasu has been ok this half.
TT has been our best player…
Poor first half, need to change things up, perhaps Laca for Auba? Partey isn’t doing much better!!
WTF Tavarez??!! Jesus! We have the worst shooters of the ball in the league. How can so many shots from good positions be off target? And Partey hasn’t even joined in yet.
If Tavares can’t shoot the ball lower than 10 metres above the goal, he should quit that and go back tio the training ground and practice more. We do not pose any threat from distance, giving Newcastel a comfort to stick close to own goal.
We do move the ball too slowly, one-tow touch to many.
He is too wasteful. This rubbishes all the other good work he does. It’s painful to watch everytime.
