Date set for FA Cup showdown with Forest

It’s been confirmed that Arsenal will take on Nottingham Forest in the FA Cup third round on Sunday, 9 January.

The game will kick-off at 5.15pm and will be broadcast in the UK by ITV.

We’ve faced Forest three times in cup competitions in the last five years beating

We beat them 4-0 and 5-0 in League Cup encounters in 2016 and 2019 respectively but lost away in the FA Cup in 2018 having travelled to the City Ground as holders.

Arsenal will be without Nicolas Pepe, Mo Elneny, Thomas Partey and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang for the trip with the quartet due at the African Cup of Nations.

Away match. So more risky for us.

Leno, Cedric, White, Holding, Tavares, Maitland-Niles, Xhaka, Martinelli, Odegaard, Nketiah, Balogun.

Subs: Ramsdale, Chambers, Mari, Gabriel, Tierney, Lokonga, Saka, Smith-Rowe, Lacazette

Bizarre how Lakonga slipped so far from a starting lineup considering our options.

I think he wants sambi to start in the PL

That was just for fun really but my thinking was Sambi will take the Premier League games and also the two League Cup Semi-Final legs as at that stage they will surely be a priority over Forest.

Xhaka as we all know is a physical beast and can play 3 times a week if need be. Arteta will play him every game until Partey is back.

No Patino on the bench?

Afcon absentees, in August it really worried me, now I sadly look at that list and really don’t think it will make our squad weaker, when they are away.

Nail on the head. Hopefully the opportunities are presented to some of the players that have been riding the bench, and they take them full throttle. Would love to see Martinelli and Balogun get some serious gametime.

I remember August – we had a covid outbreak at the club and were forced to play Brentford.

Sp*ds on the other hand get their game against Brighton postponed.

“we will be without Pepe”….. don’t make me giggle
