Nobbs starts, Miedema on the bench- Arsenal v Barcelona line ups

Jonas Eidevall has reintroduced Jordan Nobbs into the starting line up for tonight’s Champions League match against Barcelona at Emirates Stadium. The big surprise is that Vivianne Miedema starts on the bench.

Steph Catley also appears to be starting at centre half alongside Jen Beattie.

Has Jonas lost his mind?

Well, this should be interesting. I can’t imagine that there will be any chemistry with this new and unusual lineup/formation. We’ll see.

Intent is more players in the midfield, I assume.

I assume it is Catley at LCB and either Parris or Caitlin upfront. I don’t mind Steph at CB at all.. smth had to change after Chelsea there…

Why is Jen starting? There are four CBs on the bench that I’d have picked ahead of her. Half an hour gone and worst fears are realised.

It is so annoying, because we actually started well, soaked up the pressure had some counter moments and then just game them the goal out of nothing.

Arsenal are too soft–that has become a noticeable issue. We’re not physical, and stronger players and stronger teams take advantage. Gunners getting hammered again.

Beattie’s giveaway for the first Barca goal was an absurd mistake–did she even know to whom she was passing the ball? Was she really trying to pass the ball two-thirds of the way across the field? Granted, there was nobody close to her to give her passing options–but you can’t make that pass. Arsenal are just a mess–far worse than they were under Monte, whose Juventus team yesterday held Chelsea to 0 goals. They can’t possess the ball and can’t get it forward. The team needs more collective toughness. It’s one thing to lose matches and another to just look… Read more »

Arsenal are playing scared–no confidence. They should be pressing high in the 2nd half, down 3 goals; instead, the players drift farther and farther back when Barca have the ball, making it easy for the Spanish side. Passing lanes are not covered, there is no man-marking. We don’t challenge the ball until it’s close to our box. That’s absurd because even if you win the ball, everybody is so low there is no way to get forward. And when Arsenal get the ball, not only does nobody break lines with the dribble, but again it’s more back-passing and drifting back.… Read more »

Second best all over the field. The serial fouling of Mead indicated a respect and undoubtedly deserved. Not sure anyone but the goalkeeper deserves a mention.

Abdul bakar

Result wasn’t exactly surprising, but performance disappointing & selection perplexing. Why Beattie? She’s been a stalwart, she’s bloody handy in the WSL & Barcas 16&18 did look like giants…..but it’s Barca… I wasn’t concerned about balls into the box beforehand. The mistake aside (a big aside) Jen played ok I thought, but that lack of pace stopped us pushing up. Maybe that wasn’t the plan, but if we’re going to do fancy Danielle passing out from the back, ‘because that’s how good teams play’, then we should do the pressing that comes with it…..& If the plan was to sit… Read more »
