Video: Arsenal 0-4 Barcelona – UEFA Women’s Champions League post-match reaction

Not an unexpected scoreline, but no less disappointing a result for Arsenal in the Champions League, going down to Barcelona 0-4 at Emirates Stadium.

Arseblog News’ Tim Stillman provides a circumspect perspective on the match and what’s next for the team’s journey in Europe.

Just had to relax and accept that this Barcelona team are on a different level to our team at present. Still, our team is 5 months in the making against a team who are peaking after 5 years development.
Well done fans at the Emirates. The atmosphere was amazing.

Exactly. Despite the score line, we can see the team has improved since last time in spain and is going towards the right direction. Jonas’s interpretation and analysis of matches are really impressive. I can see what the team trying very hard to achieve but we are not there yet and it’s a big ask for them to be able to match with barca with all those new formations and tactics in a few months. Looking at the squad and the ambition we have, I think our future is looking good. The team has a lot of potential. Building a… Read more »

You can see they’re trying to think quick and make quick decisions on how to pass the ball best and fast like barca when making counter attacks which they usually succeed when they’re not facing high press team like chelsea and barca. Its just too much for them to face such high press and make accurate passes fast so the quality of passed at those times is usually sacrificed. Still need time, training and practice to perfect the skills as it will require some instincts and that natural click with other teammates. I think that understanding of each other and… Read more »

The other thing that Tim has eluded to but not many have picked up on is that Barcelona effectively equals the Spanish national side so last night’s game was almost Arsenal vs Spain! I didn’t mind the loss last night because I could see that our girls tried their best against what was to all intents and purposes a national team and that has to be a step in the right direction following Sunday’s capitulation against a fellow WSL side! We should still qualify for the next round as runners up so not all is lost and it has shown… Read more »

Yup! I mean yes we probably have been falling hard in the recent two matches but how often can you face barca, the best team in the world twice. These losses are invaluable lessons and they kinda come in time as they help us to set our standards of where we wanna be and know how far we are behind for starting a new era. it’s all up to the mentality of the team and how they react to these losses. But you can see those ambitions and fire in the players’ eyes now. They are eager to be better.… Read more »

Indeed, as long as everyone gives 100% at each game if we lose that is football and we did our best. I just cannot stand the situation we have had in the last couple of seasons where it looked like we were going through the motions and couldn’t even beat Yeovil or Aston Villa which cost us CL places.
I agree there seems more hunger and above all enjoyment out on the pitch now.

Yes, definitely an improvement although I must admit it was a hard watch.
Beth Mead was fouled a lot which should have resulted in a sending off.
Caitlyn Foord did a sterling job in 1st half as did super-Viv in 2nd half.
Frida Maanum played great, much better than in the 1st game.
A couple of flashes of genius from Kim, but she couldn’t make a huge impact.
Let’s remain optimistic: if we meet them in the Final we’ll be ready to beat them!

I am not at all familiar with The Arsenal Womens Team though I have heard of some of the stars. This was a family evening out ’cause the price was right. We are going to see The Arsenal vs Barcelona. Happy days . Its going to be tricky we will likely loose but we ll score a few. That did not work out . It was not a great spectacle for kids over 90mins. But maybe thats my bad but I get tickets for games like this ( and unpopular mens matches ) cause they are days out supporting our… Read more »
