Gabriel Martinelli has pledged his commitment to Arsenal saying he’ll stay at the club for the rest of his career if he has the chance.
Arriving as an unknown quantity from Brazilian fourth-tier outfit Ituano in July 2019, the striker has experienced his fair share of highs and lows during a traumatic three year period for the club.
He was quick to turn heads when he scored on his League Cup debut under Unai Emery and went on to burnish his reputation with goals at Anfield and Stamford Bridge before a serious knee injury sidelined him for six months during the pandemic. A frustrating spell warming the bench was followed by a gold medal at the Olympics which has helped bolster his confidence.
Still only 20, he’s now targeting a place in Brazil’s squad for the World Cup and is set on helping the Gunners get back into the Champions League.
“I’m working towards that, doing my best, so that Arsenal can qualify for the Champions League first and, consequently, get a spot in the World Cup,” he told ESPN Brasil.
“It’s every player’s dream to play in a Champions League and World Cup. This season, I can compete for a spot in the Champions League and consequently win a spot in the national team”
Under contract until 2024, there are suggestions the Gunners will look to tie Martinelli down to a new deal next season. It seems there are no doubts in the striker’s mind that Arsenal is where he wants to be.
“We always want more,” he said of Mikel Arteta’s young squad. “Of course, Arsenal are a giant team. If I can, I’ll stay here my whole life. I want to conquer things, I already said, I want to stay here and win titles, with this wonderful crowd, my teammates.
“We have a young group, we have a lot of time ahead of us, players with a lot of quality, I think we will achieve great things. Our focus [today] is the Champions League. Fighting for that top four. A club like Arsenal has to be in the Champions League. It’s our total focus.”
Obviously, it’s nice to hear such positive words from Gabi even if his professing of undying love comes with a heavy dash of youthful exuberance.
They all say that..
They all said that..
Eric Morecombe quote?
Eric Morecambe. He had quite a soft spot for the Arsenal, despite being an avid supporter of Luton Town. He once did a funny photo shoot with Kevin Keegan at an empty Highbury on the pitch. The shoot was for the ‘Morecambe and Wise Book’ which, as a kid, was one of my most treasured possessions. The photos were used for a comedy article where Eric, resplendent in a full Arsenal strip, was supposedly giving Keegan, in full England kit (then a regular for Don Revie’s side) lessons on how to play the game. Each photo illustrated a different lesson.… Read more »
Thanks Qwalitee, one of the best comments I’ve ever read.
Can we get that in writing? ASAP?
He’s already being flirted with by Klopp and Pep who have both announced their admiration for him. So this is such a positive thing to hear. And a far cry from the usual “I have a contract for two more years and we’ll see after that”.
His agent can’t be too happy with this sort of thing though. “Christ sake Gabi, give me some leverage!”
Love you Gabi. Happy to sign a 15 year contract if you’re up for it!
Fantastic, would love to see Saka, Osegaard and ESR stay their whole careers too.
Fab Four forever…
Saw a halftime video with Saka recently. He spoke the same way as Gabi. Henry being his hero. Meeting his hero. Wanting to achieve the things Henry did at Arsenal. Just love this bunch of young guns.
long live the King!
Without indulging in fantasies, it’s completely realistic to think we might have all four of them for the next six years or even more.
That would be SOME front line
I hope the squad is also properly supplemented to suit their ambitions as well.
❤️❤️❤️
SING DA TING
He can belt a tune too? Multi-talented for sure.
To what tune?
To the tune of “Walcott” by Roxy Arms
🤣
mmmm That Ting didn’t turn out so well, unless your wrapped cars.
A good time to tie him down with a 16 year contract
Lol his PR game is on point for a young lad. 🙂
He’s entering his thast as Theo thaze. I’ve always liked him and his drive. There’s alot to be hopeful for with this team, I really hope we find that striker to cement some good times ahead
Watching dusan i see he fit well at arsenal .he is everything arsenal needed ..focal man ,hold up play .skill n so on ..i pray we find someone like him or better n meet juve in ucl n knock dem out ..but sometimes i see some of those attribute of him in pepe ..
Agreed
I do subscribe here but am too lazy or tech savvy to complete the process and post in the daily blog. I will say that I admire the hell out of Andrew for his balance and clarity related to world events and his blog. Well written and well played as usual, Bravo! PS give Xhaka a break, he is a fearless flawed leader, as all the best are.
Yeah I thought it strange he hadn’t commented on it, but when he said about it coming at the anniversary of his dad passing I can totally understand (lost my dad when I was 16 and that was tough) but when he did comment it was spot on!!
Xhaka is a mediocre, emotionally unstable, dim witted moron.
Except since his return from injury the results have improved and he’s formed a great partnership with Partey.
Until he let’s us down again, which he will.
This season he has hardly let us down and has been a consistent success. He is so far from your biased and ridiculous opinion of him. 🙈👎🏿
Blimey, even I wouldn’t go that far.
He’s been a pain in the arse at times and cost us vital points, but he does seem to have finally got his head down and quietly formed a good partnership with Thomas Partey.
As fans, we cannot – and shouldn’t – ask for any more than that.
Agreed.
Blogs always writes well, but the last couple of days’ posts have seen the work of a genius.
Secure top four and then put the lad on an improved contract.
Fail to make the top four and watch the vultures circle.
In two seasons or three, EPL won’t know what hit them. In Ramsdale, Tomiyasu, White, Gabriel, Saliba? Tierney, Odegaard, Lokonga, Saka, ESR and Martinelli, we’ll have a pool of very good and experienced players about to hit their prime. A sprinkling of a few quality signings in the next two transfer windows plus Partey should complete the armoury. Pundits have begun to see this. All the criticism have dried up like a pond in drought. They are all queuing up to sing Arteta’s praise. I can make bold to say that this team will deliver the EPL title, and maybe,… Read more »
Went to the Emirates for de Brentford game.
He couldn’t play because he upset Michael Oliver the previous week.
I really woulda loved to see him play.
A nice poem!
A haiku by Michael Oliver:
“Young dynamic lad,
wearing the Arsenal red,
play next match you will not.”
play next match you won’t is what you meant good sir.

Love the kid!!
Great news!
But please Gabi, once you’re on a 300k/week contract, please no late coming back from visiting mum, don’t mention Chinese Muslims and never never ever show off your pay cheque to Neal Maupay.
Lovely to hear this but three key words “if I can” – not that exuberant – quite wise…
