Ipswich beaten 5-1 in behind closed doors friendly

Arsenal’s first pre-season game ended with a 5-1 win over Ipswich Town at London Colney this afternoon.

Mikel Arteta’s first half team was packed with experience, with the likes of Bernd Leno, Hector Bellerin, Ben White, Thomas Partey and Nicolas Pepe all starting.

Eddie Nketiah grabbed a hat-trick to mark his first outing in the number 14 shirt, while Albert Sambi Lokonga also got on the scoresheet.

It was all change at the break though, with a second half line-up made up from Academy and youth prospects, and Flo Balogun scored the Gunners only goal of the second period.

Arsenal’s next encounter is in Germany next weekend when we face FC Nuremberg.

Highlights are available via the official website.

Super. Well done, all.

Determination Cultured

Can we try ben white at DM with saliba partnering gabriel in CB?

Cooked Patino

But we have 4 senior DMs already.

Qwaliteee

And if the Tielemans deal goes through, we shall have another.

A very, very good one.

Qwaliteee

In heaven’s name, why…?! Ben White is a centre back, end of. I honestly don’t know what you dudes get out of daft tinkering….?

Mate, you should get together for a few beers with Berlingoon. The long winter evenings will fly by…..

Berlingoon

So butthurt? Bet you‘re dreaming of me too. Poor lad.

Alan Sunderland

Think that lost something in translation, makes no fucking sense.

Berlingoon

It makes no sense that this dude is still thinking about me weeks after we disagreed on a fckn football topic. His life must be truely wonderful. I forgot he even exists the day after.

Qwaliteee

Dreams? Heh. That’s a bit rich coming from you, Nostradamus.

Those great Saka Departure Summer 2022 visions of yours, how are they coming along?

Have you managed to work out yet whether or not we are going to sell him this window?

Berlingoon

I still haven’t said that I think Saka will leave once. You don’t exactly look smart by refusing to understand that. For WEEKS now.

Alan Sunderland

Exactly, if saliba is better than white play saliba. If white is better then play white. I can’t get my head around this narrative that the back 4 can’t be improved.

Qwaliteee

FIFA22 has got a lot to answer for…..

Alan Sunderland

How about letting saliba and white fight it out to decide who starts? I don’t get this narrative that the only thing we need to change is lacazette and xhaka and everything is sorted. The aim should be every player should have someone challenging him for his place. White in central midfield would be a disaster. Right now in our squad elneny xhaka and lokonga are all better options than him. Maitland niles as well if he’s still in the team.

Savage

Nice performance from our new signing Whathisname. Oh wait…

El Mintero

Why the 46 downvotes? He has a point…once more we are dragging our heels trying to sign who we need. Meanwhile city, Liverpool and even fkn spuds have their business all done and dusted giving them time to bed them in for week 1…so fkn amateur hour as usual.

Qwaliteee

Oh dear, Minty.

Wrong yet again. You never ever learn, do you….?

Cooked Patino

Would be a great one if Nketiah continues to grow in confidence.
Some really nice passes from Thomas Partey. I hope he stays fit for the season.

ThreadRipper

Who gave that pass for the last goal?

Top Tier-ney

Looked like Matt Smith, a 21 year old fella we’ve been loaning to League 1 clubs for the past few seasons, where he’s gotten plenty of senior starts under his belt already, so Ipswich wouldn’t have fazed him today, its the level of opposition that’s right up his alley in fact.

Rick

Matt smith

Qwaliteee

Who has more winners medals than Harry Kunt, erm sorry, Kane.

Sean

Oh yeah, now that’s where I remember him from! It was the 2020 cup final and I got really confused when I saw this tall kid randomly wandering around with the team during the post match celebrations. It was only afterwards I found out he was a member of the squad at that point!

Dr Zebra

Yes Matt Smith, it was outstanding

Granit(e) hard!

Excellent, thats what we want
Especially happy for Nketiah, a striker thrives on confidence, which come from goals. I am beginning to see the lad does have a natural instinct for goal, else you don’t score a hatrick wherever. Well done lads, keep it up

DefaultGray

Curious what number Bellarin wore for the match. Still rather hoping that #2 goes to Saliba to show he’ll be a major player this season!

Liam

2 is for right backs. It should go to Tomi once Hector leaves.

Badaab

#2 goes to that lot down the road in their toilet shaped stadium, but the jersey can go to whomever wants it

Qwaliteee

If I had the wings of a sparrow

If I had the arse of a crow

I’d fly over Tottenham tomorrow

And shit on the bastards below

Shit on
Shit on

Shit on the bastards below, below…

Aaah, the old ones are the best…😂

Goonertic

And now that they have just signed Richarlison they should rename the ground as the Tom Daley stadium. It’s gonna be hard to keep Kane,Son and him from diving all over the place.

Qwaliteee

By rights, Tommi should get the number 2 shirt, although I have heard rumours that Saliba has been given it.

To be honest, shirt numbers are the least of our problems at the moment. We need to get in a decent sized squad to wear them first.

Gideon

Who gave that through pass which Nketia teed for Sambi’s goal?

Tommmy

Partey

Graham

Thomas the Partey

Charles Charlie Charles

Mister Partey

Ansumana Sheikh Konneh

It good to hear this

Naked Cygan

Where the hell is Jesus? Anyone know why it’s taking this long to announce his signature on the contract? I have a feeling it could be something to do with his medical, but hope I am wrong.

Gunnermite

The delay I think will take away the excitement when they eventually announce him. I mean to some he’s already an Arsenal player two weeks ago.

Berlingoon

He‘ll come today. It’s Sunday. Everyone knows Jesus appears on a Sunday.

TeeCee

Can’t be medical. Even if he was dead he’d recover in three days.

El Mintero

Downvote the shit out of me but if it fell thru I wouldn’t give 2 fks. Dude has proven to be the most inconsistent of goal scorers, exactly what we don’t need. And don’t even bother trying to convince me of his amazing work rate, tactical nous, ability to play anywhere up front blah blah blah…he scored 8 goals for city last year, 4 in one game. He scored fck all for Brazil in the last World Cup. Zero! City couldn’t wait to get him off the books. FACT.

Qwaliteee

Taxi for Minty…..

😂

2highbury

Eddie Nketiah the Apex Predator.

No Tomiyasu or Tierney – hopefully that’s just precautionary.

Charles Charlie Charles

You bet your life it is.

Berlingoon

Extended holidays due to international involvement for Tomi and precaution for KT I guess.

chepetin

Reminds me of the petrol shortage in the 70’s, being able to fill up on odd days or even days, based on the last number on your number plate.

Same thing with Arsenal. It was a T day so no Tierney or Tomiyasu. You all think I’m bonkers, but was Matt Turner there? Of course not. How about Nuno Tavares? Nope. Makes you think a bit. Now who’s bonkers?

MikelArteta

With the Spuds or a.k.a Spurs panic buying of players the Gunners need not to fall short… Tielemans shld complete our puzzle…oh i forgot we have the son of god Jesus nothing will go wrong.

Sproing

With that line up, can’t tell if it’s a hardball play that we’re okay with keeping some of the players, or a last chance for them to change Arteta’s mind before getting flung out the door
